  1. Again, there is that brainwashing talk instead of your own mind. There is absolutely nothing wrong with being proud of yourself and your accomplishments in life, or the lives of your children, loved ones, or friends - while remaining humble. It can be done, but this is where the poison is and goes back to the comment of: "Without this, you are nothing." You are not allowed to be prideful of what you have accomplished (on your own, with no divine intervention), which, to me, sounds very cruel. You could go invent the cure for cancer, something that anyone would be very proud of (you just literally saved millions of lives), yet in your mind: Nope, can't do it. Put in all this time and effort, and I can't because an invisible sky monster says I can't. All the while, you know you invented that cure for the betterment of humanity, and would be humble enough to accept the thanks of families of whose loved ones could now be saved and rid of a terrible disease. The whole Devil/Satan diatribe is another story all together, and is full of fallacies and constancy errors. I do wish you the best, but I hope you figure this out - you obviously have some doubt somewhere.
  2. I have no problem being a compassionate and empathetic person, and I deconverted about seven years ago. You are convinced by brainwashing that you have no willpower to do anything you mentioned, as planned by the institutions who profit from such ways of thinking. You CAN produce such things at will, you just have been convinced you can't and like Florduh said: you've been convinced that without God and Christianity, you are nothing. Not even worth the air you breathe because you are using up God's air without his permission. How dare you. All scorn aside, I really feel like you are someone who has a somewhat open mind based off what I have read thus far, and I also feel like you have that sense inside of you that you are wanting to think you can do it on your own. Let me be among the first to say: Yes, you do have the willpower, and the conviction to do it on your own. To find what you need. Good luck.
  3. Much love to you Margee for always being a balanced voice for everyone. And Merry Whatever to you too!
  4. You are, again, stating that God is allowing these things to happen. Whether he "sends or causes" is irrelevant. You are just a typical apologetic, saying anything and everything to let your god off the hook. By supposedly allowing Satan to have dominion, to allow these things to happen, he is malevolent. End of story. No loving god would allow these things to happen. I know I'm talking to a brick wall when I say this, but I just cannot stay silent anymore. We have found a match for ironhorse in terms of sheer apologetics.
  5. The non-apologetic point of view, at least mine anyhow, is God is a colossal dick and not worthy of my praise.
  6. I was just about to add this. Defense of god if I ever seen it. SeaJay, this is why I made my comment in the other thread about you looking for reasons to stick with it. I mean no disrespect, but man - you really are quick to the apologetics on things when it comes to bible verses. So again, let's entertain the idea that you are right and the Hebrew word DOES mean calamity or disater: Please tell me again how either of those are good? And how they point to a loving god who is willing to bring suffering on his creations?
  7. Disaster and calamity are good things? Definition of disaster is a sudden event, such as an accident or a natural catastrophe, that causes great damage or loss of life. Calamity is an event causing great and often sudden damage or distress; a disaster. How are these good things?
  8. "I am the alpha and the omega. The beginning and the end. What was, what is, what's to come." - rough Revelations text is a good start. Let's also not forget about Isaiah: "I create light and darkness, peace/good and evil. I, the Lord, do all these things." - rough text. Then another Isaiah passage: "Remember the former things, those of long ago; I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me. I make known the end from the beginning, from ancient times, what is still to come. I say: My purpose will stand, and I will do all that I please." All of these, in my opinion, point to a supposed omniscient creator. They also present some troubling evidence on a few other things (god creating evil anyone?).
  9. I miss the days when I was not sickly. I feel like I am reliving my childhood all over again.

Oh you know, the childhood I didn't have because I had to mature much faster than other kids because I had to learn to treat my asthma and lung issues at a young age. Alternative was death.

  10. @SeaJay, please know that I say this with the upmost respect and well wishes - but man, it seems to me like you are looking for reasons to go back to religion. Most every post I read is you having something you have read via a creationist/religious person, and whatever progress you made on trying to find peace is reset. You need to accept that it is perfectly acceptable to NOT have all the answers to life's little mysteries. I think you would find peace alot quicker, and in turn, maybe find a way to think a bit more deeply and find the absurd nature of these claims by the nutters. As the others have said, there is a wealth of information supporting evolutionary claims. Look for that, instead of the opposite. Read, research, use your mind. You are an intelligent guy, so I know you can. Best wishes mate.
  11. Hehe, thanks CG. It seems to be going well enough, we're still in the "feeling each other out" part of it, taking it a step at a time and seeing where it goes. But she seems to have an interest in dating. You are absolutely right. I'm working on it Thank you for the support TS!
  12. Of course the world is about to end, I found a gal who is mutually interested in a relationship. So yeah, Trav potentially being off the market? Hell is definitely freezing over, meteors are going to land, and super volcanos are going to explode. ... Yep.

    Woah

Welcome, I don't have much time to respond - but you have come to the right place. Your feelings are similiar to how the vast majority of us were; you're in very good company. Stay a while and listen, read, and have your mind open. Welcome once again.
  14. Common sense is someone be able and allowed to love whomever they wish. My cousin is gay, yet is a devout believer. He obviously read what the bible supposedly said on the topic, yet - he is a man of god. You are really grasping at straws here.
  15. I view you as a disgusting piece of scum who should not be walking free, unsupervised, and unmedicated. The mere fact you will entertain the idea is enough that you are a waste of oxygen and blight on this world. You, sir, are a sick fuck. I fear for your children now.
  16. So, you're okay with killing your kids as long as your god says its okay. As Jeff said, you are fucking sick and should be sent to an insane asylum immediately. Disgusting.
  17. It did not do this to me. I'm not entirely sure.
  18. Going through one of my spells where I lose my zeal for life. Have not been right for two weeks, between illness, fatigue, and depression.

      Hi Travi,

I have suffered from depression and anxiety for decades and it has gotten better by healing my mind. The brain is "re-wireable" through cognitive behavior therapy - through "reprogramming" the brain to not follow the negative thought patterns it had been programmed with. I dropped the link to a free App called The Panic Pit Stop that is good for both anxiety and depression. This psychologist has extended his research and services to people world wide who suffer from mental illness but are cannot afford the help they need. Check it out. You may find it helpful. Best wishes

Thank you for the resource, @JenniferG. I will most definitely check into it.

  19. People ask me what I am, I simply reply: "I am a human being. Just like you." That usually leaves an abruptness that ends the conversation.
  20. Ah yes, the good old "Mark of the Beast"
  21. I think its just an inherit human trait to have to believe in something. I believe I'll have another drink.
