  1. I could name many reasons for leaving Islam, unfortunately leaving it isn’t so easy not to mention, Islam still has apostasy laws.
  2. You know the entire New Testament is the product of early Church tradition, the faith came before the books and those books were written to complement that faith, not the other way around. How can we know who Jesus was if Jesus himself never wrote anything in his lifetime, we can only really rely on those that knew him or those that came directly after them or those who were appointed by the original apostles of Christ. Technically speaking Paul himself only authored 23% of the New Testament possibly even less were written by he himself directly. As for robes, in second temple Judaism the priests of the temple wore robes so that’s something Christianity just took on from the environment it grew out of. Christ was regarded as the walking temple of God on earth, so just as God spoke out of the temple, he now spoke out of human flesh as the doctrine of the incarnation states, so the Apostles were in a way the first priests of Christ. The sign of the cross was pretty well established by the 2nd and 3rd century as Saint Basil the Great mentions it being taught to the Church of his day by the Apostles themselves so it was an early practice of the Church, the same thing really goes for sprinkling Holy Water in Church. I won’t really argue for the Popes authority as presently seen since I’ve pretty much moved away from Catholicism. Matthew 15 refers to human tradition, not the Apostolic tradition that it inspired by Christ himself and continued down from him. The Orthodoxy I’ve encountered is the same one you encountered, we just see it differently. Since I’m from the Middle East mot Christians you encounter here are either are Catholics or Orthodox, I’ve never actually encountered evangelicals or Protestants face to face except from expariates even then I only encountered one fundamentalist who I know really well, but the way some extreme evangelicals seem to take it seems based more around emotion and a relationship with Christ and a disregard for anything else.
  3. There way closer to the early Church then Baptists or evangelicals are. My family are secular Muslims, so I grew up around a legalistic religion, which is why you can imagine evangelical Christianity never appealed to me. My thoughts were always on Catholicism and Orthodoxy.
  4. I follow Eastern Christian theology, or Orthodox theology. I’m planning on converting to the Orthodox Church once I leave the country I’m in.
  5. Does anyone here want to have a discussion on Christian theology with me? Just keep in mind I’m not experienced in dealing with atheism or agnosticism, with me I mostly focus on Islam. Just some information I’m not evangelical or fundamentalist or even Protestant in my beliefs.
  6. Well atleast I’m glad he decided to stop demanding people for money, I myself don’t care much for evangelical preachers.

    Hello

I guess I can't really explain it but most of my life was like that I guess it really always made me feel happy and less afraid to know that some non human entity was watching me and guarding me.

    Hello

You cannot validate the existence of that unicorn but at the same time you cannot prove that it doesn't exist. Many people throughout history have believed in some divine power there has never been a time in history where people believed in nothing. I cannot prove God but I at the same time no one can prove he doesn't exist.

    Hello

Its mostly Jesus talking in parables and other verses are talking about judgement. Also even if Jesus was actually let's say preaching evil things I find that much worse then actually doing evil deeds. Also compared to how much God gives us and compared to how much he asks of much is a pretty shocking comparison. The air we breath is from him he only asks us to follow him. Also the fact that God gave us a chance to redeem ourselves through Jesus Christ is one of the greatest mercies especially since he could have just condemned us to outright hell form the beginning without any chance of redemption now if that was the teaching of Christianity you could say as much as you like because you'd be right.

    Hello

Islam never appealed to me even as a child I found it to be a political ideology masquerading as a religion I mean if you read about the person your supposed to copy in Islam (Mohammed) and compare it with the person your supposed to copy in Christianity (Jesus) you'll find a huge difference. Even if you don't believe Jesus ever existed you'd find a huge difference in character and moral values when compared to Mohammed prophet of Islam.

    Hello

Almost every religion believes in some sort of judgement even Ancient Greek and Roman Pagans had that and Zoroastrians also believe in hell it isn't just Christianity which believe in the concept of hell and heaven.

    Hello

It was bit of both emotions and rational thinking. Christianity is pretty unique in its concept of God when compared to the other religions I was involved with.

    Hello

I believe these are questions that come up a lot in people's minds and I've seen these questions being brought up by many people who left Christianity. I can't answer unfortunately most of my time I debated people of other faiths and religions particularly Muslims I never have actually had discussions with Athiests (if you are Athiest) in my life.

    Hello

We ll I was always in my life a believer in God/gods I never disbelieved but I realized that even after I tried Paganism, Zoroastrianism, and even Manichaeism at one point none seemed to really fill that big spiritual hole inside of me. My religion commands me to love you just as I love my self sure I don't like that you left Christianity but it's not for me to do anything that's Gods task but I don't hate any people and I believe all people should be treated fairly.

    Hello

So I assume most of you are Athiests, I believe all people are free to believe in what they believe only God decides in the afterlife to judge them. Growing up in an Islamic country your not judged just by God for leaving Islam but your judged by Muslims by judge its not that they reject you they can prosecute you and in my country execute you for apostasy, freedom of faith does not exist. Although I know the Church in history did some pretty messed up things which usually makes people reject Christianity but I prefer to read about the life of Jesus himself. I usually spend my time debating Muslims it is kind of a hobby for me now, my family are pretty secular so they kind of accepted my conversion but I can't go open publically with it.

    Hello

I'm a Christian from the Middle East that was born to a Muslim family, although I know this is a forum for ex Christians I was looking to get to talk and figure out why you guys left Christianity. Usually coming from a very hardline Islamic country in the center of the Islamic world I was always asking questions about Islam since I was raised as a secular person it always made me question my religion. Christianity really had a changing experience in my life, after I started to hate Islam the more I read about it I became a pagan then a Zoroastrian before finally deciding on Christianity although it was always in my head throughout my life I never thought of actually becoming a Christian when I did it really felt like I became a new person and I've never felt closer to God in my whole life which something most people can't understand. So here's my story I guess.
