  1. I left the cult over 30 years ago. Fear of a vengeful god and hell/damnation is long gone. I don't feel much of anything any more other than an occasional tinge of anger every time someone speaks about how good and mighty god is or some other stupid crap. You're on the right track...keep going...you'll get there
  2. I HAVE GIVEN MY HEART TO JESUS!!! PRAISE THE LORD!!! IT IS NOW MY CHRISTIAN DUTY TO CONVERT ALL YOU HEATHENS!!! April fools Sorry, couldn't resist. I'm still a reprobate lol
  3. Hi and welcome Phil...nice to meet you
  4. Sorry for your loss, my friend. Take care.
  5. Welcome to Ex-C...there are approximately 30000 different christian denominations out there...each one convinced that they're right and all others are wrong....not to mention the myriad other religions who believe they know the true god(s). It's a mass delusion. You're not going to hell. You'll be fine
  6. It's definitely nice knowing that one is not alone
  7. Hi and welcome Shelly...nice to meet you
  8. The F-word is like punctuation...Right fuck? Right fuck. For some people, it's an entire sentence. FUCK!!

Hi and welcome, PSR...leaving the cult is a big decision. But you'll find lots of support here...its a great place to be
  10. Sad news...best wishes, my friend.
  11. I have found it quite educational. I guess you can teach an old dog new tricks
  12. Sometimes I find it irritating, but at the same time I like watching our more debate-skilled members tear their arguments apart. I myself, however, am not very skilled in the debating department, so I don't actively participate much.
  13. I'm so much cooler online :)

      Me too Derek!! 🤣

It's pretty hit or miss for me, much like meat-space. 🙃

  14. Hi and welcome from the east coast
  15. Welcome aboard The God Delusion is a great book...took me considerably longer than a weekend to read it though lol
  16. Hi and welcome, Tim...its tough at first when family don't want to accept your new path...but don't give in, whatever you do. They will adjust, and so will you. Many of us here have been through that same ordeal. And what the hell is ayahuasca? (sorry for the dumb question lol) Edit...sorry, Weezer...It wasn't my intention to quote you, just couldn't figure out how to delete the quote box. (Not that your post wasn't valid ).In my defense, I just hit my 50's a couple weeks ago...hands are starting to get shaky lol
  17. Yup...a tool... I got a short story...my employer is a deeply religious man. A while back he asked me how I spent my Sunday afternoon. I told him my wife and I went for a hike in the woods. His response was, "Why weren't you in church?" My reply..."maybe I was". He said nothing else. The end.
  18. I used to be chief of a small volunteer fire department in a predominantly religious community. Occasionally, we would "make an appearance" in church on Sunday morning in dress uniform just to appease the masses (usually on some special occasion like christmas or easter). I was always relieved when the service was over. Thing is, I use a LOT of 4 letter words in my everyday speech, and it was kinda hard to keep that in check while I shook the preacher's hand as he was welcoming my crew to gods house lol. But I would rather have been checking hoses
  19. I wouldn't try to convert anyone...echoing other posts here, I would gladly chat with them but I wouldn't try to coerce them in any way. They need to be open and willing to change, and that's not something you can force.
  20. Sounds a lot like "zen" thinking. Years ago, I read a book about zen and the practice of completely living in the moment and giving your current task, however small and trivial, your complete and undivided attention. I think it was called "Zen Keys".
  21. It has been kinda quiet lately. While I'm the first to confess that I don't actively participate in the debates much, I do enjoy seeing Christians going up against some of the more intellectually gifted members here...educational AND entertaining
  22. Hey, Art...you need to do what's best for YOU, my friend...don't keep trying to please the people in the church. Constantly doing stuff for other people (especially if they're unappreciative) at the expense of your own happiness isn't worth the aggravation. I suggest that you get out now. Good luck.
  23. When I first glanced at this post, I thought I saw the word "impotent"
