  1. Uh, no. The trinity theology was plagiarized from the pagan philosopher Heraclitus who lived 500 years BCE. It is also the same plagiarized version that is an intro to the Book of John, calling Jesus 'the Word.' Totally stolen from Greek mythology and respun for Jesus.
  2. According to scripture, one is not to add to nor take away from the word of God. Adding a spell would be adding to the word. Adding other influences to the religion would add to god's word making him a liar because he never claimed such things. Disaster follows they who violate god's copyright without god's consent.
  3. Christians like to claim Jesus did not sin and they use Isaiah 7:14 to prophesy the coming of Jesus but do not read further that claims he would sin before learning not to sin: Isa 7:14-15 (14) So, the Lord Himself shall give you a sign. Behold, the virgin will conceive and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call His name Immanuel. (15) Butter and honey he shall eat until he knows to refuse the evil and choose the good. According to their own scriptures, their messiah would sin.
  4. I went from conservative to liberal. From fundamentalist to nonbeliever. My politics are equality for all and basic human rights everyone requires to live, such as food, shelter, utilities, medical care, should be available to anyone for free. If a country can spend its money like $3.5 billion USD to Israel every year, then it has the fortune to provide the basic necessities of life without complaint. It gives wealth to the wealthy and more poverty to the poor. It promotes austerity instead of prosperity and every bit of it is driven by the Christian church--prosperity doctrine is extremism fo
  5. Actually, the universe may not exist at all, not in the sense that a 'universe' was created by the Big Bang. Space inflated as the Big Bang. The universe is the result of the inflation. The Big Bang is a model of what we see, given the time we are in to see it. From our point of view looking at the known universe, we see an inflation arising from a big bang. The 'universe' was not an empty bag that waited for a big bang to fill it. The known 'universe' could not have existed until the big bang or whatever caused the inflationary event to occur.
  6. http://www.examiner.com/article/newly-discovered-ancient-christian-magical-spell-reveals-egyptian-influence I posted this story as an example of how much other customs influence the Christian religion. Thoughts?
  7. One of the silliest bible stories I can think of is the story of the tower of Babel. A god is so threatened by people building a tower to heaven, in which they will all suffer brain death from lack of oxygen if they were to build a tower that high, that the god destroys the tower and confuses everyone's language so as to stir up resentment and suspicion on a global scale leading up to today's chaos around the globe. How insecure and ineffective can one god be? Besides this story demonstrates how incorrectly the universe was viewed by early humans, and god did nothing to correct their assumptio
  8. My advice is that the Bible with the thinnest pages can make a life-time supply of rolling papers. Otherwise there is not much use for one. Reading pissy verses that only promotes one's doctrine is hardly Bible study. I would recommend a new Christian start out reading a good astronomy book and perhaps some anthropology books first, paying attention to the length of time it takes for the formation of planets, stars, and galaxies. If space isn't interesting to them, then they should find a good geology book explaining continental drift and earth quakes.
  9. I never knew shortage of Vitamin D could lead to seizures and visual and auditory hallucinations. My level was a 10 for vitamin D when this started. Learn something new everyday.

Glad you've figured it out! Fortunately it's a simple problem, you'll be back to normal in no time :)

  10. Yea! Good news! I ain't dying anyway. Got a really screwed up neck pinching nerve. Bulged disks. Don't need surgery yet. MRI normal whatever that is.

Am happy for you that it's nothing too serious. :)

I've had a bulging disk in my back a couple of times, so I know how painful it can be. Normal MRI means there was nothing life-threatening causing the problem, such as an infection or a tumour. Get well soon!

  11. No MRI or x-ray results from VA yet. Good thing this emergency wasn't a life and death situation.

It took more than 30 days to get an MRI from the VA for what one doctor called an emergency. VA moves at the pace it takes water to freeze.

  14. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transhumanism Merging science and religion. Not my idea of a good idea. I have not seen one thing religion will not trash in favor of its own theology and doctrine. Sooner or later the movement will get lost.
  15. I thought I was going insane. Constant dizzy sensation. Went to Dr.'s office. I have type 2 diabetes now.

      hereticzero

I know what to expect, I come from a very long line of diabetics. There are worse things to have than diabetes. If medication will make me stop whirling and spinning in the head, I'm game.

I'm to be scheduled for an MRI, unless that changes, to find out if I've had a stroke fairly recently. There's a lot of tests I'm getting, diabetes was the first one.

  16. I remember back in the 1960s and 1970s in America when the USA made fun of the Soviet Union for cracking down on its poor who panhandled. I recall a photo of the Russian police hauling off an old woman was begging on the streets. Years later, I see the same tactics used in the US against its own poor and those who try to feed them. America has become a pathetic nation of unbridled hatred towards the poor and those who would give them help because it contradicts America's long standing pro...

....far as they may have been lead to believe. Wages that are indeed wages, and not slave wages, will bring America prosperity. Caring and providing for the poor should also be our main priority or this nation. When we fail to provide for the poor and hungry, we fail as human beings.

It's so sad to see the human potential of millions of people going to waste because religion is destroying the secular nation the founders intended.

    3. Thurisaz

      Thurisaz

Actually it's not (just) religion in this case. We're hardly very religious, certainly 95 % atheist if compared to the US, but the hatred for the poor isn't much weaker here. Not since the last opposition parties got bought by the rich that is.

  17. I have heard of this 'idea' before and it does not hold merit. Too many fossils are against it as well as the age of the universe and the planet Earth. Noah's ark is not a starting point for sciences of any kind.
  18. The Passion of Christ (for obvious reasons). Zeitgeist -- I thought the author made too many conclusions based on faulty assumptions. I'm not much for romantic comedies either. I did like Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore in '50 First Dates.' I thought that was original. I dislike a lot of so-called based on true story movies. I prefer documentaries. I don't watch most shows on the History Channel. Hardly any real history involved .... space aliens and the pyramids, really, c'mon. I never watch shaky-cam movies. If I wanted to see a shaky-cam movie I could film it myself. I haven't really
  19. Another kid in our town shot himself last night. What is it with kids commiting suicide these days?

    1. florduh

      florduh

I suspect the proliferation of guns and more news slots needing to be filled with something might have a little to do with an apparent increase in suicide.

    2. hereticzero

      hereticzero

It looks like what was thought to have been suicide is closer to an accidental shooting, following an argument with the boy's girlfriend who told him he should shoot himself. So he did, to the leg,but missed and severed the groin artery and he bled to death.

    3. hereticzero

      hereticzero

I think it's Death by Misadventure? He shot himself but not where he intended. Still stupid but the kid was a really good kid. Another one I knew. He was well-liked by everyone I know of. Heat of the moment cost him his life.
