  1. I am so glad to see that ExC is still here engaging in its very important mission. I see a lot of familiar names and a good number of new members. I am glad. I first came here in 2009 and received an incredible amount of help in my deconversion (is that term still used here?). I found this place to be a very welcoming community and I am sure it still is. Untold thousands have been helped by webmdave’s website/forums, assisted by the capable moderators and caring members. if anyone is interested, you can find some of my old postings buried somewhere here. But one th
  2. You have received a lot of very good advice here and I agree with it. I would add one thought that might help you finally cut your ties with that church. Think of what you are doing for that church as a secular job. When many people decide to leave their job for another opportunity, they give notice with a definite date for their last day of employment. That gives the employer time to hire someone else and gives the employee a definite date of departure. You may want to take that route. Tell them you will give them two weeks (or whatever time period you decide on) and at the e
  3. Hi! You will never (in a million years) guess where I am starting work soon!! It's a part time job at night to bring in some extra money.

  4. Happy birthday to a dear friend!!!

Thank you my very special friend. I hope you are well and things are going your way. I always want the best for you. ((hug))

Things are going well and I hope they are for you, too. Your birthday has been on my mind for weeks!! ((Hug))

  5. I think that labels like "supernatural healings" and "miracles" may be the problem with incidents like you describe. These descriptors suggest that there is some force of some sort which has the ability to defy the normal physical laws of the universe and accomplish something that, but for that force, could not be accomplished. I don't doubt that there are some people whose diseased or mangled bodies do defy the odds and heal completely and medical science cannot explain it. That, however, is not supernatural or a miracle. Rather, it is something not fully understood that we should try to
  6. I love to read such good news! How wonderful it must be to have what seems to be harmony in the home when one of the two discloses the big secret. I am very glad it worked out so well!!
  7. The interview went well, but I am still waiting to hear about the job. Of course, I hope I get it, but I am so used to job hunting disappointment that I am ready for good news or bad news. My daughter moved to Chicago and, of course, is not in school. She remains fairly private and won't give us her address. Talk soon, my GREAT friend!!!

Just noticed this. All will be well!! (hug)

  8. http://www.charismanews.com/opinion/the-flaming-herald/48225-astonishing-1968-prophecy-by-90-year-old-woman It is the above-quoted part which tells the real story. We must believe "The evangelist Emanuel Minos" that there was an actual 90 year old woman who made this "prophecy." We have nothing written by this alleged prophet; rather, the entire account was written by E. Minos allegedly based on what this woman supposedly told him. It would have been easy for him to have written it and made up the tale on which it is based. Sounds sort of like the Gospels, doesn't it?
  9. As far as I know, the Sanhedrin plays no role in what some see as end times prophecy.
  10. My job interview went really well. Now for the long wait to hear back. Have a great day everyone!

  12. A lot of good advice in this thread. As has already been suggested, you have been indoctrinated into accepting the threat of hell. I and many of the rest of us were likewise indoctrinated by the repeated references to hell (and other Christian doctrines). Realizing and understanding that you have been indoctrinated (brainwashed is another way to think of it) is one of the first steps to freedom from the indoctrination. As an example, Margee posted about the creation of man story in Genesis. Her synopsis of it is very good because she left out the version of the story as told in chur
  13. It can have an important bearing on whether the convicted person will be eligible for parole. Also, bear in mind that the number of years that you find makes our justice system lose credibility was simply counted up by a reporter. That reporter simply took each offense for which she was convicted, counted the number of years of prison eligibility, and added the years up.
  14. I have experienced the number thing numerous times myself. Here's another one that is similar. Many times when I am reading something, someone in the vicinity or someone on the radio will say a word or phrase at the exact same time I am reading it. I don't think there is anything supernatural about it, but I do enjoy it when it happens because it is kind of a fun and interesting coincidence.
  15. Welcome back, bird! I hope you are able to work things out with your husband if your renewed doubts about Christianity grow and become more important to you. My only advice is to wait making any announcements to your husband about your view of Christianity until you have fully come to terms with it in your own mind. Maybe I'm wrong, but you sound a little lukewarm on the issue right now.
  16. I don't think any of the first ten amendments, the Bill of Rights, will ever be repealed. If the Constitution is changed, I think it might be done, not through the amendment process requiring Congressional action, but through the other method - a Constitutional convention. See Article V, U.S. Constitution. A Constotutional convention bypasses Congress altogether and can be called by two thirds of the states. There is growing discontent among the States about the federal government. So a constitutional convention is at least possible.
  17. I did not realize until recently that SerenlyBlue was you. As has already been said, no apologies needed. Welcome back!
  18. Welcome to ExC, blindsighted. Glad you're here. Whenever you feel like it, I, too, would love to hear how you deconverted so quickly.
