  1. Talk about elitist..Ayn Rand? I thought u guys hated elitists. Anyway, Ayn Rand saw the progress of civilization as man's progress toward privacy, and that primitive societies had little privacy. The affairs of the individual were always the affairs of the community. However, Mr. Groves that 99% of man's history ( savage history, presumably) was state-free. Not sure what that means exactly.....
  2. Only a fool believes. There is no god. Ha.
  3. Mistake # 7, a biggie I might add: Assuming other people know what you know, and don't know what you don't know. It can make life easier when you know that people really aren't out to get you, they're just being ignorant, as you or I can be at times.
  4. First of all, fungi are only "nasty" insofar as we compete for its preferred substrate, i.e., books, leather, living tissue, or as they produce an obnoxious effect, i.e., bad smell, residue, etc. With a breakthrough such a fuel production, these inconveniences can easily be circumvented, as through providing a substrate that is cheap and plentiful, or by genetic engineering. Secondly, fungi are not algae. Fungi are more closely related to humans than they are to algae.

  6. In keeping with today's political climate, we need a paradigm shift. Stop looking at the homeless and the jobless as a problem, and start looking at them as a human resource. As has been examined, today's homeless aren't just winos and bums by nature. There's work to be done, and as distastefully socialist or totalitarian as it may sound to some, ambitious, forward thinking programs need to be enacted which would take advantage of some of the idle talent in this group. Not just government funded programs, but also the private sector would play a role. Some of the projects I'm imagining
  7. I do give you credit for that, but it's gotta work both ways.
  8. Sometimes we need one last glimpse into the darkness, just to really get our heads around the contrast. Welcome back.
  9. Go to your UU church. She can go with you if she wants. If not, then you're free to scope out those hot UU girls. How does she get away with saying that her choice is the only acceptable choice? That's coersion. Seriously, don't let yourself get manipulated. You may have to travel through some unfamiliar territory, but there's always and alternative. ~Your expat aquaintance in Shanghai
  10. I'm not going to offer any new opinions here, just reiterate what others have said. This is a support site for ex-christians. This is PRECISELY the place for those who are angered, disillusioned, scared, and confused about their christian roots to come and work things out. This can go vastly different ways, depending on the individual. If it bothers you, you can always change the channel. Angry ex-c's, keep on keeping on. May you find peace, but until you do, punching bags and pugel sticks are here at your disposal. Pockets, keep in mind that the ground you have crossed many
  11. No balance. Fact is fact. Fact is, GW is man-made, GW is real. FACT. Sorry if the nuance escapes the wing-nut wannabees. The only people who want to deny it are those that have $$$ at stake, or the wannabees thereof. If you hate hippies, fine, If you hate cats, fine. If you hate environmentalists, fine. If you hate college professors or anyone with more than 3 teeth or fewer than 3 tattoos, fine. But you shouldn't be speaking about subjects you are woefully ignorant about, unless it is to inquire and discuss. I mean, the biggest conspiracy of them all..you really think GW i
  12. Seems to me you're hinging on the 2nd law of thermodynamics, if you replace the word 'create' with 'transform.' That I can agree with. The word 'create', by definition, implies a creator, a designing by intent. By saying everything seems like a creation, then you are saying that everything seems designed by a willful entity. Is this the case?
