...As more is learned of people and practices even farther away, this information feeds into a developing ethical code, determining how s/he will treat others and will choose to be treated...

I'm not sure I follow you here. Not all ethical behavior found in far places will fit in her place, so if she is smart she won't use it in her place. For example she may learn that it is perfectly alright to go naked in Bornio, but she better wear clothes to the mall. Any ethical behavior that would fit in her place she will learn in her place.

It's not that she'll necessarily adopt the views and/or practices of far places, but that she'll contrast and compare in developing her ethical code in her own place.

She might learn of the practice of female genital mutilation in far places and, based on her broadened ethical assessment, make damn sure it's not imported into her place. (That importation is, btw, taking place worldwide as people who practice this immigrate to other countries.) Or she might learn of the practice of daily dream-sharing as a family and tribe bonding ceremony and integrate that, in a place-appropriate manner, into her own place.

Also -- nobody's place stays pristinely their own place anymore, due to the transfer of people and their practices worldwide. So is it better to seek out and to ethically apply broader knowledge or not?
