Propraganda is subjective, so it all depends on your personal definition of what "propaganda" is. Besides it sounds like you've already developed bias against it.

well how can i help that, when everybody that has watched it goes: "You HATE the government" and lets all go protest something.

I just don't want to watch a movie that's gonna depress me. what's the piont?

Meh, I can see some parallels and the movie seems more like a political commentary with really cool fight scenes than propaganda.

I can see how some people get a lil riled up about the movie because they feel that there IS something wrong with the Government and they want to do something to make it better.

It really is a good movie, though, Zoe.

It depends... I haven't seen the movie and I was suprised at it's popularity because it was a graphic novel first.

Don't let things play on your paranoias. The thing about these dystopian movies and books is that, although they present a view of what might be, ie the future, it's not what it is now.

Don't fear Bush, he is an idiot for the most part. The real people you should fear are people like Ahmandidjad and Bin Laden who do want to establish a totalitarian theocractic world.

The movie is Outstanding IMO.

Bottom Line, The terrorist wake the sheep up... While rallying the people, he also puts responsibility on the people for allowing themselves to become sheep for safety. I own the two disk set and saw it twice at the movies. I think it's pretty outstanding for DC Comics.

Yes, I love that part. I love that he woke up everyone and started a ripple. One person can make a difference.

I saw the movie 6 times before I bought the dvd. It's my favorite movie of the year by a couple of points. I'm a libertarian and an agnostic/deist so I'm not your typical run-of-the-mill anti-war socialist or Bible thumping evangelist. I disagree with a couple of points made in the film, but it's overwhelming power is its advocacy for freedom.

As V says, if you want to know who is responsible (for the corruption in your government), you only have to look in the mirror. If you can't face that one simple truth, by all means don't see the movie. And for those who only want action and no meaningful dialogue, what the hell are you doing on this board.

And V wasn't a terrorist, he adminstered justice, in the absence of a government that would, against the murderous government officials--not innocent civilians.

He fits the definition. In fact, quite a few people fit the definition.

Aye, V was a terrorist. Just as he was a political activist. Just as he was a freedom fighter.

It's all semantics based upon the opinion of the individual.

Not to argue with you, but may I ask why you believe that the world needs to be ready for change?

Let us take the civil rights movement. That did not happen with MLK or Rosa Parks, that revolution was a slow thing. Surely public opinion and the strength of many is what made blacks equal, but what about each individual person?

Everyone who took part in the civil rights movement knew that they risked their freedom and their lives. They made a choice and changed the world, because individualy they had courage.

Even in my own short existance I know that I have changed many lives, and in so doing I have changed the future. Youthful indescretions have led to many people being hurt, and many more shall be harmed in the future because of my actions. These actions will echo across generations of people, generations of those I have harmed.

But they have their own choices to make, so I may have affected nothing.

On a less deep note I am thinking about renting the DVD tomarrow.

Anyone who gives a flaming goddamn about *Freedom* in any abstract or real way will enjoy the movie.

It *is* 'hollyweird entertainment' made to appeal to mass audiences and a wide spectrum of watchers.

It is not something so serious that you'll come out of the cinema with torch in hand and rope on hip looking for preachers and politicians..

But you will think and not stop thinking for a long goddamn time about the message and the meaning behind what "V" means to you.

For those inclined to want a good political statement movie with some decent plot, good 'meaning', and tons of assorted action mixed in with a message that can't be ignored, do it..

The buildup to the finale really gave me goosebumps. And both the beginning and the end scenes gave (and still give) me chills going straight to the bone.
I just watched this movie yesterday.

I 'bout lost it at the point where Evey(sp?) was coming to grips with her "freedom" and what was done to her in order for her to be able to claim it.

That scene hit me square in the chest and I didn't know whether to cry or go out and kill something. :twitch:

That was a powerful scene, imo. :phew:

I thought she was going to die. She found that letter and it gave her strength. The whole camp thing reminded me of the holocaust.

I thought she was going to die.
It's funny how people view things so differently.

I didn't think that she was going to die. I viewed that scene as her finally coming to life. Sort of like birthing pains of her coming to terms with herself.

Then when V tried to calm her down by explaining to her that it wasn't hatred that she felt and how he, too, mistook the feeling as hatred when he got to that point... :HappyCry:

Powerful stuff. :phew:

Once again, I viewed the letters differently than you did.

I saw the letters as something used to take her very last hope from her, driving her toward her "freedom".

godfuckingdammit! I hate you people. Now i'm going to have to watch this movie. :HaHa:
It's a good movie, for sure. I rented it this weekend, but I'm going to buy my own copy eventually.

i'll probably rent it tomorrow. I mean, it's a movie with a hostage situation...so I have to see it for just that alone.
Hostage situation? :Hmm:

Whothuhfuc said that?

Is V Hot? (I mean i know he wears a mask, but does he ever take it off?)
At one point in time, V was VERY "hot".

You'll see what I mean when you see the movie. :HaHa:

You get to see his face one time, and it's a really short scene. Other than that, you never get to see his face.

I saw that too, but when it first started (like right after she was captured) I thought for sure they were going to kill her. I understood why he did it. She lived in her own world before he woke her up.

I think I may have just not explained myself very well.

It wasn't the letters that reminded of the holocaust, it was the injections and the dead bodies. In fact I had forgotten that they did anything like that (the markings on the door) during the holocaust. She didn't see those markings until after she was let out, right?

Yeah and in that scene he is almost fully nude.

:HaHa: You're getting your prisons mixed up here. The way you're wording your posts, you make it seem like Evey was in the same prison during the same time period that V was. :HaHa:

Actually, I don't think that the marking were even shown when she got let out. The markings that you're talking about were shown during a flashback.

Oh yes! He's fully nude, too, Zoe. So you just HAVE to see it now!! :wicked:

:lmao:

*she is so going to kick our asses* :HaHa:

fwee..ok i guess a hostage situation requires some kind of ransom or something...i'm just all about the kidnapping...also i read on IMDB about it...
I'm sure that I'll be watching this movie again sometime this week since I've only watched it once. But I'm pretty sure that somebody was blowing smoke up your ass when they mentioned a hostage situation in that movie.

supposedly this V guy is one evil fucker. Sweet! I'll watch.
He's evil alright. But he's evil in a really coooool kind of way. :woohoo:

He really did love Evey, I think. You can see it painfully clearly in one scene in particular (which one, I shan't say, for fear of spoilers).

So, yeah... I really don't think he was gay...

Really or are you messing with me? Cause maybe he isn't.
Nothing happened in the movie that would make you think he was gay. Actually, it was quite the opposite. Like Lady Feline says up there, it was evident that he had feelings for Evey. He just couldn't bring himself to do anything about it. (you'll understand why once you see the movie.)

*she is so going to kick our asses* :HaHa:

Hahaha I cheated and read a bunch of reviews...so I know pretty much what to expect there lol.

Also...I think "V" is gay, which sucks because now there can be no sexual tension between the beautiful portman and the sadistic evil building blowing up anti-hero. DAMMIT. WHY WHY WHY?

Is he a homosexual? I've seen him in different movies but he's an actor, so you never know. Either way he plays a man who has been so hurt that he wears a mask and doesn't let anyone in emotionally. The love interest does try to get in his emotional bubble. But I thought he did a good job explaining to her why it just can't happen. Even if the actor was straight he wouldn't let her into his emotional bubble. That's just the kind of guy the character was.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, his sexual orientation is irrelevant.

V, the character, is definitely not gay. The actor? Couldn't tell you. But the actor's orientation doesn't matter if he's half-decent.

Man, Natalie Portman is hot even with her head shaved...

If you think about it, though, maybe whoever blew the smoke was doing her a favor. This is in reference to Zoe, after all; she may be just kinky enough to like it. :spanka:

Part of the imprecision of the English language. Those definitions could also apply to a revolutionary which is what he really is. Or do you think there's no difference between retribution against those who've committed massive atrocities as opposed to targeting innocent civilians and using children as weapons. It was "unlawful" for Jews to live in Nazi Germany. Does that mean any retribution against the government should have been termed terrorism ????

V, GAY??? He was in greater pain maintaining his distance from her than anything else he went through.

Zoe wrote:

I am in no way personally responsible for what any large monolithic organization does. (and me not carrying signs and protesting and signing petitions etc. has fucking NOTHING to do with what's going on. It's so narcissistic to believe one person effects everyth change...if they hadn't stepped up, someone else would have, because the world was ready.)

Apathy is such a cop-out.

yeah i'm twisted. I've read several reviews that intimate to me that V is the one who imprisons her, though she doesn't know that at first...and I'm all: "stockholm syndrome...yay" seriously I'm so fucked up.

Yes, when I first mentioned it, I meant that V imprisons Evey. But she thinks it was the state that did it. At least I piqued Zoe's curiosity and she's going to see the movie!
