Amethyst
Our god is an awesome god he reigns from heaven above with wisdom power and love our god is an awesome god. Totallyatpeace
i remember that song. I liked that song. That was on the "jesus freak" album. "jesus freak" was also a cool song when i was a christian. God TAP now it's stuck in my head. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Allow me to really make it stick in your head...... lol Pardon me, your epidermis is showing, sirI couldn’t help but note your shade of melanin I tip my hat to the colorful arrangement Cause I see the beauty in the tones of our skin We’ve gotta come together And thank the maker of us all We’re colored people, and we live in a tainted place We’re colored people, and they call us the human race We’ve got a history so full of mistakes And we are colored people who depend on a holy grace A piece of canvas is only the beginning for It takes on character with every loving stroke This thing of beauty is the passion of an artist’s heart By god’s design, we are a skin kaleidoscope We’ve gotta come together, Aren’t we all human after all? Ignorance has wronged some races And vengeance is the lord’s If we aspire to share this space Repentance is the cure Well, just a day in the shoes of a color blind man Should make it easy for you to see That these diverse tones do more than cover our bones As a part of our anatomy
imageownershipproblem
I'm telling you this is exactly where I got my vampire fetish. all those freaky blood songs. Can you imagine me 6 years old and singing along to these? UBER CREEPY. And people think Goths are weird. (btw i'm not a goth...i'm too eclectic in everything even fashion to be a goth.) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I don't know if I can even express the reasons for my own vampire fetish in words. Definitely a great subject for a different thread, though. Thank you all so much for your musical suggestions. Former musician here, sort of like "the emperor's nightingale" aka "the bird who would sing no more" thanks to nodes on my vocal cords complicated by gastric reflex syndrome and the sorry state of health care in my country. It goes deeper than not having much of hope of being able to make a living. I need music the way some of you need air to breathe. If I can't create it, at least I can.....well.....drink the blood of those who can. Yes, I used to take all of those stupid little songs very seriously and now I'm furious when I hear them pouring out of my little boy's teevee and I have to run over and switch it off. We don't have cable. That crap does not belong on network programming.
Guest aexapo
A favorite hymn among many Pentecostals, especially the "oneness" cult: I see a crimson stream of blood; It flows from Calvary! It's waves which reach the throne of God, Are sweeping over me. Is that the creepiest one or not? It's usually sung slowly, with arms raised, and generally with open weeping. Ouroboros
The most freakish song is the one you only sing "Jesus" over and over again, in slow tempo, it's hypnotizing. It's basically a pagan magical chant to bring down the spirits to create ecstasy.
nirrti
I have a collection of about 150 music CDs, most of them Christian and Gospel so I still listen to them (I'm not about to sell $17 CDs for $2, which is all I'd get for each.) even though now, my focus is on a more universal divine conciousness rather than Christianity's limited concept of God and its deification of Jesus. My favorate songs are from the "Hillsong" worship CDs, you know, like "Shout to the Lord", "I Adore You," "Irresistable", "My Hope" and "Highest". I know, I know....sappy sappy sappy. But their songs usually don't have that same masochistic "I'm a wreched sinner" theme others do and are just basically love songs about God. I guess because Hillsong Church is in Australia and the Christians there don't have the hang-ups about unworthiness as Americans do.

white_raven23
This is great! In a twisted, creepy way. Zoe the hymn lyrics you metioned were all songs they used to sing at my old church too. As I read those lyrics you mentioned, for a moment I could HEAR that shite in the back of my head. It gave me chills. Reminds me of this one. Mine Eyes Have Seen the Glory "Mine eyes have see the glory of the coming of the Lord, He is trampling out the vintage where the grapes ofwrathare stored; He hath loosed the fateful lightening of his terrible swift sword His truth is marching on. Chorus: Glory glory hallelujah Glory glory hallelujah Glory glory hallelujah His truth is marching on! I have seen him in the watchfires of a humdred circling camps, They have builded Him an alter in the evening dews and damps; I can read his righteous sentence by the dim and flaring lamps, His day is marching on. Chorus (again) He has sounded forth the trumpet that shall never sound retreat, He is sifting out the hearts of men before his judgement seat; O be swift my soul to answer Him be jubilant my feet, Our God is marching on. Chorus (yet....again) In the beauty of the lilies Christ was born across the sea, With a glory in His bosom that transfigures you and me; As He died to make men holy let us live to make men free While God is marching on. Chorus (last friggin' time)" How freaking cute. I just love how this song is all about war.....except the last refrain yapping about liles and christ's glory. The very song manages to conveniently change the subject. God's bloody war crusade suddenly becomes about a birth....with lilies. No wonder the fundies are all for censorship, they happily do it to themselves!

Ouroboros
Mine Eyes Have Seen the Glory I remember that song from my Pentecostal days. We sang in English sometimes. It really sounds like a army marching song or something, going to war, pepping up to kill enemies, and the enemy is the non-believer... bhurrrh... Ouroboros
yes and HOW is this different from muslim fundamentalists??? Oh that's right...christians are hypocrites who can't even follow THROUGH with their beliefs...too much bloody work. "Oh God make me see how evil my enemies are, and how important it is that I do your work, and give me the gift of laziness to never follow through with what I promised. Just like you Jezus." (Man, do I feel bad saying this? Eeh ... Nah!)

I don't know what context that title comes from though.

white_raven23
Thought it looked familiar... Merlin Hmmm. Probable. Wouldn't surprise me much. Actually I pulled that from the hymnal I took from my old church. Noooooo. I didn't steal it. They were getting new ones, and the old ones were up for grabs. When I get home from work, I'll have to check and see if Battle Hymn appears in the same book. If that's the case, then it might be evidence that these churches are "padding" their hymnals. That wouldn't surprise me either.
Mythra
I'm with Zoe Grace "What can wash away my sins? Nothing but the blood of Jesus." Nothing like a nice warm blood shower to get ya all spiffied up. As an ex-christian musician, I had literally hundreds of songs in my head. It has taken a lot of ZZ Top to drive em outta there.
Guest bdp
'UFO' by Larry Norman - this song was written in the mid 70's, when UFOria was nearing its peak; von Daniken was everywhere and 'Close Encounters' was just on the horizon. "He's an unidentified flying object - you will see him in the air He's an unidentified flying object and you will drop your hands and stare You will be afraid to tell your neighbors, they might think that it's not true But when you open up the morning papers you will know they've seen it too He will come back like He promised with the price already paid He will gather up His followers and take them all away... He's an unidentified flying object - He will sweep down from the sky He's an unidentified flying object, and some will sleep but will not die He's an unidentified flying object coming back to take you home He's an unidentified flying object - He will roll away your stone And if there's life on other planets, then I'm sure that He must know And He's been there once already and has died to save their souls..." I used to think this song was way cool... now it's so embarassingly cheesy...however I still think Saviour Machine rocks, and I love Michael Knott to death - how many other Xtian singers ever sang about writing bad checks, smoking cigarettes, getting drunk, and going to jail? bdp

been borg again
ADAM AGAIN, has got to be the best christian band ever, Gene Ugene died a few years back from a brain anurism , he was only in his 30's and they only put out a few CDs but they were rated by a few secular music oganizations as the most under rated band of the 90's, the album DIG was even rated as one of the best albums of the decade by secular music sites. The guy was amazing, the music style was kind of REM southern rock funk. they invented their own style and was never able to be put under a particual catigory of music.. I think the sole reason why they were not popular, unable to label thier music style, except christian, even though the band lyrics were never really christian to begin with, they were kind of like Creed, in that their lyrics were cryptic.
