The problem, Leaf, is that there is a difference between being "horney as hell" and "love".

 

Call it what you want. It does take two to tango - I agree with that. But two people looking for "love" in bed doesn't work. It just doesn't.

 

Love is something that comes with a committment to stay with a person even when it's not "fun" or you're "bored" etc... Love is something that says this person has been with me through thick and thin and stood by me when everyone else around me ran - so I will continue to put my energy and love into this relationship and I won't hurt this person by going behind their back to have an affair.

 

Love has very little to do with sex. Sex is sex - that's it. Someone can have sex and not be loving and a couple can be deeply in love without sex. I wouldn't recommend it - but it does happen especially as people age and life takes its toll on the human body.

 

So - you're young and you're an Alpha Male - so what. Someday you'll be old - and some young buck (or many) will come along and take your place. They always do - that's the story of Alpha males. And - if you continue living as you live now - you'll still be wanting love and you'll have nowhere to look for it. Sex will have lost its luster.

 

I'm female - and I'm not in the least bit jealous. I've been married 26 years. My husband is 50 this year - he's not as hot looking as he was 30 years ago - (neither am I - although I will say this people tell me I look much younger than I actually am - I have been mistaken as being a sister to my two daughters more than once.) But that's neither here nor there. What is important is that while the young bucks (Alpha Males) of our day were running around getting laid we were building a relationship. We were building years of working together to raise kids, build careers, build a community in which we found support all those things. Neither one of us have ever felt the need to find "love" in someone elses bed.

 

Now looking back on all those years together and who has ended up where - I'm happy I didn't marry an Alpha Male - they've all gone stale. They're older and alone and cynical and jaded and they haven't found "love" either.

I don't know, maybe there are differences in cultures we're dealing with here, but there are two things that stand out to me and they are these:

 

1. You say to the other poster here that they have no "game".

 

2. You speak of how huge percentages of married men and women have extra-marital affairs (the assumption being this is not an agreed upon open relationship between the couple).

 

First of all, do you somehow see your exploits with married women some sort of a fun, harmless game for you? If so, do you deny that these sorts of things are extremely hurtful to others as it is a betrayal of trust? If you view this as "their" problem, do you feel no responsibility for participating in this, that they're just going to do it anyway? Isn't this sort of like harming someone with impunity, simply because they are faceless people beyond your immediate circle of friends? Would you do this to your best friend?

 

Secondly, that huge percentages of people do this doesn't make it OK for you. Personally, I would prefer to uphold higher human standards by my actions - such as TRUST, even if everyone else was acting like a bunch of greedy takers, in fact especially if they were. I'm not a lemming.

 

Now however, IF it was a case where there was an OPEN relationship, that the wife or husband had agreements with each other it was OK, then there is no TRUST being violated, no injuries occurring either to the one having the outside relationship, or to the non-particpating spouce. In that particular case then it would not be "cheating". It's part of their realtionship built on love and trust.

 

To me the most sacred word in the world is sincerity. Sincerity is about truthfulness and integrity. I judge myself by my trustworthiness. To see myself as a "cheater" is to deminish my own value in my own eyes. I see this whole, "doing it because everyone is", as nothing other that an excuse for greed. A taker. A user. An insincere person.

 

Your point that this was to point out the hypocrisy of those who call themselves religious, frankly fails to impress me when you are not showing something to me that is a higher standard. If anything you sound as hypocritical as them. I'm sorry to say this to you, but I have to be honest about something like this. Again, it's fine if it's an agreement in a marital relationship, but if it's "cheating", then I would not "contribute" to the problem. They either need to work on their issues, or split up. It's a basic human values thing - trust. For you to "have game" with these people, frankly is unfortunate. It just takes. It doesn't bulid anything. It's greed.

Good post, Antlerman. Having sex with other people's spouses is fine and dandy, but if people are violating the trust of others, it's a whole different ball game. There's no way to know if Leaf is real or lying, and we can judge a lot based on his reactions to various posters.
