Guest thenotchosenone
In my experience from when I was a Christian, I remember there were so many things that I wanted to do but couldn't. People tell you that they are happier when they become Christians and are actually convinced of it themselves. I remember when I started the deconversion beginning to do all the things that I had believed were wrong, it felt kick ass, as a matter of fact I don't think that people who have never believed in God understand just how good sinning (according to the bible) can feel. When I was a Christian I didn't just believe in god, I actually read the bible (good thing because if i hadn't read it I might never have stopped believing) anyways I didn't just believe in god I read the bible and tried to live by it. I've decided to make a list of some of the things you can do when you are really free 1. Use profanity. I think for everyone this is the most basic and stress relieving one. Also the first one. Fuck-see it still feels good. 2. Not go to church. This one was awesome. Sleep in on sundays, you dont have to sing stupid ass songs and hear a preacher tell you how much you are living in sin. 3. No more praying. You don't have to talk to someone whos not there. You don't have to look like an idiot. You don't have to keep praying and never see any results. 4. No more praying for your food. It's embarrasing in public, and god didn't give us a god damn thing we got this food ourselves. 5. Fuck jesus. Honestly this was one of the best. The first time you get to say it, unafraid. To say fuck the tyrant who scared me with hell when I was a kid. I actually had nightmares about going to hell when I was in 5th grade. 5th grade is a little kid in my opinion way to young to be scared of shit like that. We all knew even when we were Christians that god was a ruthless evil tyrant. Deconverting gave us the power to say it. 6. Sex. There is so much you can say about this one. I was a christian during my teenage years (you know like when say o.. ANYTHING gives you an erection.) Jesus said if you even looked at a woman lustfully you've already done it in your heart. Ok this was actually was probably the best. Seriously once again I don't think someone who has never believed can totally appreciate this one. When you have denied yourself even to look at a woman for so long especially during those years and you finally do get over it, women have never been more beautiful. 7. Play/watch all manners of movies and videogames. You can watch violence, sex, people who use magic or witchcraft, profanity what have you. 8. No guilt. You don't have to feel bad about stupid pointless shit. 9. Keep your 10% or give it to a more worthy cause. You don't have to give your money to a cult that spreads misery or in most cases ends up lining a pastors pocket or televangelist (T.D. Jakes,Brownsville revival leaders. Aren't they supposed to live modestly? Didn't jesus tell the rich man to sell all he had and give it to the poor to get in the kingdom of heaven? Going aside for a moment this really pisses me off, there are a lot of very wealthy Christians, and if they really believe the bible, the bible says that it is harder for a rich man to enter heaven than for a camel to go through the eye of a needle. What people don't realize when they argue that statement is that camels can not go through the eye of the needle, so according to the bible rich people do not go to heaven. At any rate... I would like to know if anyone can add anything to this list. I would be interested in what you have to say.
Purple
You talk about sex and money above. I got "saved" after I was married, I could have sex, but, I couldn't lust after someone else, AND I could never have sex with a woman. I really hate the whole thought crime thing Jesus added to Christianity. I understand the concept of watching ones thoughts, but making a thought a crime is stupid. No, hating someone is NOT the same as murdering them, ask anyone who has had a loved one murdered. Thinking about having sex outside your marriage is NOT the same as adultry, ask anyone who's been cheated on. As to money, I want my money back! Legion
When seeking understanding you no longer feel obligated to turn first to the Bible. You are free to seek understanding in whatever manner and in whatever place wisdom suggests it may reside.

ShackledNoMore
Read the horoscope in the daily paper. Of course it's pure nonsense and garbage unless you're looking for a mindless laugh, but it sure won't channel demons into your soul and send you to hell. Read, question, and think. That includes reading about other religions as well as reading authors like Dawkins, Harris, et. al. That means you can question outside of the premise that your religion is grounded in the Ultimate Truth.
Vixentrox
Actually, they can do what they want. Rape, murder, torture, enslave, lie, cheat, steal. It's all been done for the greater glory of god. And since all you need to is ask for forgivness from jebus, no guilt for thier actions either.

It was based on the previous thread. the video:
Eccles
Anyone who still believes in a "god" especially on the basis of the bible: a book of utter bulllshit, is a fool. The bible is a bad plagairism of Egyptology. It is full of contradictions. There is no proof anywhere in the bible for the existance of one Jesus, the Nazarene. All those sayings attributed to Jesus cannot be proved to have been said by that Jesus. So the lives of Christians have been wrecked by a forged book. Mike D
For me the most liberating thing was to no longer feel inferior to judgemental, arrogant, "holier than thou" Christians. When you're a Christian you're taught to "love your neighbor", which where I lived pretty much meant your Christian neighbor - as long as they weren't black, gay, mexican, liberal or other undesirable. I try not to make fun of Christians or their beliefs now, but it is so hard not to after listening to so much crap and intolerance from them for so many years of my life. I have to admit it feels good to put them in their place....
LosingMyReligion
I can watch Horror films and listen to secular music. Furthermore, I love reading Harris, Dawkins, Hitchens, and Sagan. I've taken a fond appreciation in the world around me instead of waiting on a pie in the sky fantasy. I won't lie, I still hold some bitterness towards Christianity. But, as time goes on, it ebbs. robbie
Being able to drink and get drunk without worrying about it being a mortal sin. Avoiding negative things and pursuing positive ones not because I felt an obligation that was detached from the real me. It means that even if I make mistakes, I actually learn from them as a genuine human being, rather than just having an external list of do's and don't's. Being able to smoke weed. Not having to go into a little room and explain to some dude the most private, embarrasing and confusing things. It might not sound that bad, but just try explaining to a priest that you may have committed blasphemy by convincing yourself your mate was the reincarnation of Jesus while you were stoned off your face. And do it without laughing. Not having to worry about thought crime. I no longer feel I have no choice but the spend the rest of my life being celibate because I'm gay. I don't have the embarassment of people finding out the absurd things I believe and do. Nor do I have to feel guilty about being embarassed.
