Control

Money is the ultimate form of control for the self serving interests we know as government and industry. Why are executives so overpaid? Because they are greedy maybe? Or because the money has to go somewhere because you can't pay the ground-pounders too much or they will gain something like enlightenment and control? Which will make those who determine the salary...loose control.

What makes the government, which, despite its illusions of power by the people and democracy, we well know to be sold to the highest bidder, any better than a mafia?

In other words I'm asking how is it possible to have ANY respect for ANY legal power or authority in general, and any acknowledgment of the Federal Government of the United States of America in particular?

I'm thinking anarchistic thoughts, and it's starting to scare me, because I find it hard to believe that, were we not like a bunch of ignorant sicilian villagers being extorted by the local thugs, we would be anything beyond, well..., ignorant villagers.

I said , hey, what's going on?

It's funny you mention mafia. It has been my observation for quite a while now that the government is in fact just another form of mafia. It's just the natural order of things it seems. Mafia crops up and strengthens in areas where government control is weak, essentially creating a mini government. Visa versa, the government acts like the mafia in its attempt to gain power where it sees weakness. The government, like the mafia, demands a peice of each transaction that takes place in its jurisdiction. The government, like the mafia, can't abide independent contractors. The mafia, like the government, creates a sense of order that keeps the villagers content and thus dependent. It all fits together very nicely the more you think about it. When I read Puzo I feel as if I'm reading one of my old text books on foreign policy or political philosophy.

Anarchy won't work though, for if you overthrow the big government, the natural order will flow down to mini mafioso governments. It occurs to me anyway.

But who knows, they may be more efficient and cheaper. I'll stick with my plan of living under the radar by traveling. If I live in the US, I am necessarily beholden to my government. If I live abroad in places like Russia, no one cares that I exist at all and I live a de facto life of freedom.

I have to agree - governments suck. They always degenerate into oppressive agencies looking out for themselves at the expense of anyone and everyone else, just like big corporations or, yes, the mafia. Got little use for governments, overall

In an ideal world, we'd live in anarchy - clans and tribes banding together and living off the land, with stubborn individuals living as their consciences determine. But then again that's a fantasy world of sword and sorcery, and not something that human beings will ever return to. Inspiring imagery, yes, but that's about it, I think.

The type of government I'd be most favorably disposed towards, I suppose, is a Libertarian model. A government that focuses mainly on protecting its citizens' safety and seeing to it that their rights are clearly spelled out and safeguarded, and otherwise involved in little else.

And I don't intend to support the democratic process anymore. Not only have I lost all faith in it (since the vast majority of voters are far too ignorant to properly choose qualified candidates to govern - I among them) but there is nowhere to be found a candidate who will enact legislation to ensure politicians live up to their promises. Until legislation is enacted that legally forces elected officials to live up to their campaign promises or else be permanently removed from office (and punished severely for lawbreaking, given the sensitivity of their position), I have no desire left to support giving carte blanche to any slimeball who panders for my vote. I have to be held accountable for my job performance, so can those fucks.

The rest of the sheep can line up to be sheared on election day. I accomplish more for my country by whacking off to some new porn.

Governments (in general...there are always exceptions) don't suck...but the people that end up running govenments most definitely can and often do SUCK! The concept of most forms of government if executed from the ideological points they were conceived in would work just hunky dory, that is if you could only remove the greedy, corruptable, power hungry and sadly in far to many instances...incompetent human component (...see in the dictionary under IDIOT for George Walker Bush for one prime example). While humans can, and often do wonderful things...it takes humans working in some form of government to really FUCK things up! (...add religion to the mix and even a manmade armageddon becomes a real possibility...no wonder so many of these religious halfwits want there to be an afterlife...Sheeesh!) But since the removal of the Human component isn't likely to happen anytime soon I guess we are all just :toilet:
