Guest BackSlyder
Christians often claim that the existence of God is made evident by creation. And that truth can be discovered by observing the natural world. This is exactly what Jesus did when giving examples (parables) of what the kingdom of heaven is. So, I decided to put this into practice and try to realize just how big and important we are to God. I think God makes himself very clear: If this principle is true, the only conclusion one can have is this: If there is a God, he doesn't give a shit about us. Hope this is encouraging! Kirangel
Why do you think the universe is so big? How often do you get things right on the first try? We were probably one of the worlds he screwed up, and so he moved on. So somewhere out there is a planet where the inhabitants are living in paradise under the loving, watchful eye of God. Yay for them. *end sarcasm* That's a cool picture, but it underplays things a little. Add a few more galaxies, and then maybe some theories on multiple universes. Thurisaz
Now it's time for the goo' ol' bullshit a la "da univerrs is rlly only 10000 light years aCROSS and da light woz created in transet"...
Ouroboros
That's a cool picture, but it underplays things a little. Add a few more galaxies, and then maybe some theories on multiple universes. Or show the picture of the Deep Field, taken by the Hubble telescope, picturing galaxies some 13 billions light years away, or what we could call "at the end of the universe" (pretty much each spot there is the size of our galaxy, and contains 100 million stars, more or less): one might wonder why God needed 7 sixtillion, 70,000,000,000,000,000,000,000, stars to just make one. Robbobrob
It's all just paint on God's ceiling. God lies to scientists, because it helps humans seek the Truth. (*rocking back and forth, holding my Buddy Jesus doll*)
Jun
For centuries the church denied the right to look through telescopes, now why would they do that?

I've always loved that picture. Here's a video that helps to put things into perspective (it goes a little slow though).
Kirangel
For centuries the church denied the right to look through telescopes, now why would they do that? Look at what happened with the tower of Babel, God doesn't like it when we try to find him unless it's through prayer.
quicksand
I've heard this one referred to as "The argument from Scale (against God's existance)." Basically it states that the massive scale of the universe makes a creator god highly improbable.
LosingMyReligion
That is precisely the reason I'm an atheist in terms of the fictional christian god. Yes, I'm certain I would create millions of galaxies just to fixate on a tiny speck of a planet that is capable of sustaining life.
Reka
Wow, that really puts things in perspective, doesn't it? Then again the universe is a huge place most people know that, but seeing it in an actually picture makes you feel so small. Reality check. Grandpa Harley
For centuries the church denied the right to look through telescopes, now why would they do that? The Vatican now helps fund parts of the VLA and does a lot of infra red work in the field. I think they learned that Galileo was very bad PR. Very thought provoking! How truly small we are in the vastness of the universe. Reminds me of the first time I took off in a plane and saw how large our country is. mwc
Wait a second. Just how did YOU get a picture of OUR galaxy? What kind of technology do you possess? Are you GOD!? mwc
LosingMyReligion
On that note... The pictures of the myriad galaxies are so beautiful. I think to myself, 'Do you really have to believe in an invisible man to see beauty?" No. I think our world and everything beyond is spectacular. Grandpa Harley
You'd like my 'Walden Pond' PC-BSD laptop... I have Hubble Deep View wallpaper on cycle. I've heard that a new star has destroyed the Pillars of Creation. We'll know for sure in about 70 years... It takes light that long to get here... I could probably make that Hubble picture in Photoshop if I really wanted to. What proof is there really that there are other stars or other galaxies? Guest BackSlyder
Wait a second. Just how did YOU get a picture of OUR galaxy? What kind of technology do you possess? You've made my point that much clearer. That isn't a picture of our galaxy. Our galaxy is too big and it would take many lifetimes to get a picture like this of our galaxy. Doesn't that make you feel even smaller? We do not even posess the technology to take such a picture as this. Maybe our galaxy is even bigger than this one. Then again, maybe it is smaller. Who cares? We are still very, very tiny. Are you GOD!? Yes. I AM. Sorry for all the wars, death and disease. I...uh...well...I was taking a very big shit, and being that I am outside the confines of time and all that, I guess I loss track of your guys' time. Sorry about that. But I am here now and I will try to make it up to you. How does eternal life sound? Eh? No harm no foul, right? I AM out, Big G

Mike D
That isn't our galaxy! It's obvious that Satan has tricked everyone here with his lies! Repent now of your sins and open your heart to Jebus before it's too late!!
