Godless Dave
But according to Rev. John Smid, homosexuals do have a choice – and his life is a perfect example. Smid is “Love in Action's” executive director, and he left the homosexual lifestyle in 1984. He's been happily married since 1988, and he wants others like him who have struggled with homosexual feelings to know that they do not have to act on their same-sex attractions. “I just see so many people who want to discount my life,” Smid said. “My story, my life, my experience, counts. And I have found tremendous freedom from homosexuality and a deep level of change in my life that would have never occurred had I never been given the opportunity to leave homosexuality.” 20 bucks he gets caught molesting children within 5 years. dirty sick fucker. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Or is spotted in the seediest gay bar in town, or tries to pick up 18-year-old men on a gay Asian athletes' internet forum. Curtdude
So as long as Zack is under the age of 18, his parents still feel they can control everything he does. What they don't understand is that they can take away his priviliges, they can take away activities and close him off to the outside world to make him "communicate" with them, but they can't take away Zacks brain. In less than 2 years, he will be of legal age and most likely choose to get as far away from his parents as possible and the parents will have lost their son because of all their efforts to punish him for coming out. And for what? Some book that was written by middle eastern nomads 4000 years ago? The stupidity and heartlessness of people truly ceases to amaze me. And christians wonder why gays like me are alienated from their "love."
I Broke Free
This line of thought does bring up and interesting question. How would the public react if atheists/humanists set up “camps” for their “problem” children; children who insisted in believing in a god or the supernatural? Would right-wing Christian allow atheist’s the same parental rights they insist on, or would they try and have these camps closed down?

nirrti
There are two standard answers to questions that christians dislike: End times and Satandidit. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> .....or athiests, liberals, homosexuals, feminists, abortionists, pagans, psychiatry, environmentalists, humanists, Harry Potter, Teletubbies, Big Bird............... crazy-tiger
LOL! They would say it was positive proof that this is the end times and the armies of satan are fighting aganist god. Of course, you asking the question is proof that this is the end times. The existance of people who opposed the ex-gay camps is proof of the end times. The fact that they have a clientel for the camps is proof of the end times. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Oh come on... Everything is positive proof that this is the end times and the armies of satan are fighting against god. Have I mentioned recently that I'm pessimistic when it comes to fundie-mentals? dulce
I just read through the rules, too. That is a very disturbing place. But I have to admit, that as I was reading through them, I found them less strict than my old oneness pentecostal church. For instance, the attire. Women could not wear any earrings and men or women could not wear a wedding ring. If you were to wear a watch you had to make sure it was very plain and did not look like a bracelet. Under no circumstances could your watch be gold. Also, the women could never wear shorts because that is mens apparell. The men could never wear knee lenghth shorts. Just full lenght slacks. I could go on, but it's not about my old church. But I had to admit, I almost puked when I read number 9 under Therapeutic and Staff Issues. It says, "Clients........maintain a thankful attitude. Ass holes.
I Broke Free
You guys forgot cookie monster, or that one show that was canned on PBS for showing two women in the forest living together I think you are talking about an episode of “Postcards from Buster.” Buster is an animated rabbit that travels around the country visiting families of all different sorts. He visited fundy and Mormon families with no uproar at all. But when Buster went to Vermont to make cookies with two women and their children that was the last straw. Any four-year-old watching would immediately conjure up a lesbian sex scene in their minds.
white_raven23
Did anyone else happen to notice in the rules section for this den of fundie depravity, than men are specifically instructed to wear shirts to bed..... ....but women aren't? In fact, women are informed they don't have to wear bras to bed either. They are simply told "no thongs". An interesting picture, men having to wear long sleeved shirts to bed, but women implicitly permitted by omission to be completely shirtless in bed. Seems like a bias to me. Somebody in authority might be hoping to see boobies.

It does state that either pajama tops and bottoms or "non-underwear-type shorts" and a t-shirt must be worn during "proper nighttime sleeping hours". But for some reason, nightgowns are forbidden... fallenleaf
I'm sorry mark, but I have to disagree. Homosexuality does run people's lives and it's not a place I want to go. I don't want to go around and everyone sees m as "Zach the Homosexual" and if the program enforced anything it was telling the truth. I'm not afraid to tell Love In Action what I think nor and I afraid to tell my parents. I'm not taking a side, I'm correcting the wrongs. It seems they broke him... at least for a time. I imagine he'll wake up again eventually. Of course, eight weeks of constant indoctrination will break almost all of us so I can't say I didn't expect this. But I hoped against the odds that he would hold out.

Brainwashing is alive and well in america. What a lovely place we have here. I just hope he doesn't snap out of it after marrying some poor woman who thinks he's changed, has a couple of kids, and starts hanging out in the porn shops getting quickies. Finally divorces, mega nasty breakup. Breaks his ex-wife's heart. Disappoints his friends. Yeah, you go, dude. Follow "god" or whatever it is...I know exactly what it's like. I was in his shoes once. "Jesus will change me: he promised to." The kicker is, Jesus just ain't there.
