greasemonkey Posted September 12, 2007 Posted September 12, 2007 I was on a message board about the attitudes of Americans towards Islam, and was almost ashamed to call myself an American when I was perusing some of the hateful and bigoted remarks about Islam and Moslems in general. I don't tend to find myself defending religions very often, but in this case I felt like I had to make an exception: Goodness! (...and my apologies for straying slightly off the topic) I couldn't even bring myself to read every page of this thread, but I guess that all the people involved in the Muslim-bashing need to be reminded of a few things: 1) The people who who flew airplanes into the buildings and strap explosives to themselves are not TRUE Muslims, because Islam is religion of peace and no TRUE Muslim would ever do anything like that. 2) Anyone can take the Quran and cherry pick out verses that may on the surface seem violent, but they are merely taking them out of context; if you looked at the entire message, you would see that it isn't that way at all. For every verse that appears on the surface to endorse violence or bigotry, at least three can be found to show peace and love. Although on the surface it may seem contradictory, if you merely open your heart to the true meaning, it all becomes clear. Allah is a just and merciful God, and we humans merely can't comprehend his ways. 3) One has to judge the Quran by the message and not by its followers; the truth stands all on it's own. If one were to truly takes the time to read and reflect on the WHOLE thing and merely open their heart to the truth, it becomes clear that it is utterly correct (...it even says that it is the one true religion, so it must be true). 4) Even if Islam is incorrect, what have they lost?! They have lived their lives by their religion; if they die and there is nothing afterwards, then they die having believed in something. If they are correct, then they have heaven to reward them for their beliefs. It sounds like a safe bet! 5) For a bunch of people that don't believe in the truth provided by the Quran, you sure seem to be expending a lot of energy in trying to tear it and its followers down! You obviously just hate Islam for the truth it provides, but know deep down that it is the only true religion and you just reject its truth so that you may remain in your sinful lives. No religion that has that many people that follow it and have been willing to give their lives for it over the ages could possibly be incorrect. ...right?! My post wasn't received very well; for the life of me, I really can't figure out why!? My arguements in its favor seem to make perfect sense and all I got was righteous indignation out of those folks! What's up with that?!

My arguements in its favor seem to make perfect sense and all I got was righteous indignation out of those folks! What's up with that?! Well... Personally I don't feel the need to bash their religion but that doesn't mean I'll blindly defend it either. something's in your post are a bit off the mark IMO. Are you trying to use their own arguments defending Xtianity to make a point? I think so...? Might be I'm wrong though. Anyways.. I'll address the point. I'll post my comments according to the number I'm replying to. 1) They were True Muslims. Just like some True Christians blow up abortion clinics. There is a difference between fundamental extremism, and living in moderation. All can take the honor of calling themselves true , why? Because each of their holy books supports both the fundy extremism and moderates. Both can lay claims to being True 2) Same can go for the buybull. Sorry, you get to take it as a whole package ugliness and all. You don't get to pretend the ugly parts exist because they go against your belief or ideologies. These ugly verses are also what some of the fundys use. Same as in Christianity. 3) Truth does stand alone, but cherry picking the truth and ignoring the ugly parts isn't exactly 'truth'. People are oppressed by this dogma,counties are oppressed by this dogma. Women are treated worse then cattle in some of these countries. Please don't support the abuse of any human as being 'truth'. I find it contradictory to humanity. 4) Are you taking about American Muslims or worldly? Islam like Christianity is a death cult. No not all the members/followers believe it's a death cult just like many members of Christianity don't believe their dogma to be a death cult, but it is never the less. 5) The Truth is gods might exist, (although doubtful) If they were I doubt they would be the blood thirsty gods in any of the 3 main religions.

It was very unappreciated; even an atheist told me he nearly ruined his keyboard spitting his drink all over it... There was one gal who was arguing with an arab-american about the fact that there are indeed underground clubs in the middle east where alcohol is served, and she actually had the audacity to suggest how hypocritical Muslim nations were to allow these places to exist when they were against the law. ummm ...18th amendment?! Sometimes you just can't figure out if a person is being serious (alas, this one WAS!)
