What About Bible Codes?

Or is that just fake... also, can someone explain to me why the bible is fake?

As I said before, I feel very strongly about this stuff, and I really do not wnat to start another argument or discussion here, so I would appreciate someone pming me. It would help if you are familiar with Jewish interpretations of the old testament, etc... supplementary texts and all that.

Plus, I just want to say a quick thank you to the people who pmed me for support. I will try to respond tonight and your kind words were much appreciated.

You can do the same kind of patterns and codes extracted from Shakespears collected works, Lord of the rings, the 1001 Nights, or the Encyclopedia. I read about the code system several years ago, and it isn't that neat and ordered as it sounds. They do tricks like skipping one character here and there just to make it fit, or suddenly trace letters backwards half of the time to make the word they want. Besides, using the method you can find expression like this in the Bible too (I read a website once that had the references and statistics, but I can't find it now):

God is dead (repeated many, many times in the Bible)

The Bible is a lie

The bible is a fake

God does not exist

Satan is God

etc...

So if the code is truly from God, then God is a weird joker to put those phrases in too.

It's all about statistical probability. Gather enough textual material and you'll be able to extract sequences of words and sentences. It's just a matter of mathematical probability.

The whole Bible codes thing isn't datamining, it's more monkeys on typewriters. HanSolo put it well. As far as the Bible being fake, what do you mean by that? Fake as in it isn't the infalliable word of god? Fake as in the writers aren't who they say they are? Fake as in it isn't actually an ancient text?

Here's an interesting fact, I found my wife's social security number somewhere in the first 20,000,000 digits of Pi. Does that make Pi a prophetic number that got something to tell me about my wife? Lets see, can I find my own social security number? Well, I didn't find my SSN, but I did find my birth date (in the form of MMDDYY), and only a few million digits from my wife's SSN. That can only mean that we were meant to be together and the number Pi is prophetic! ;) (Anyone wanna bet I can find my SSN if I start looking for sequences with intervals? Or if I can find something to link to my kids, my home address, what star system that was discovered 4.5 years after my birth or who won Superbowl the year my dog was born, or something else ridiculous? I'm quite sure I will win that bet.)

It's been shown that Moby Dick contains a similar number of 'predictions' if one applies the same method

Yup, exactly that sort of thing! I can understand how it doesn't make sense from a Christian viewpoint because the Christian viewpoint is missing access to the original Hebrew text old testment, plus the oral torah, plus all of the supplementary texts that go along with it.

I was thinking that all this stuff was pretty amazing, and then I was like - wait a second, of course these people have a convincing case - they're presenting their evidence to you in a way that makes sense, and you don't have access to alternative information to tell you otherwise.

So I thought I'd come here. The reason I asked for private messages is because I've become very upset in the past about discussing Jewish religion, culture, etc... and my threads get locked down and I didn't want to do this whole drama thing, I just wanted to talk about it.

Also... anyone heard of this book ,the science of god??? I got alecture about it recently and unfortunately I didn't understand half of it and was trying to stay awake because I was tired, through the other half, but it sounded very interesting.

Any counter-information specifically related to this book?

It's a bit more than just statistics, it's the statistics of lexical constructs. Any written language that is based on an Indo-European, or similar, underpinning, can do this sort of trick. If you strip all the word boundaries out of a book and search for words, you'll not only find them in the sentence structure, but up and down, right to left as well as left to right (in English and other Classical/German and Celtic languages) and diagonally.

Hebrew is more prone to this since it is a symbolic written system, based on one symbol means a sound, and has no vowels other than by convention and context. You'd be hard pressed to do a Moby Dick Code or Bible code in the same way as this in Chinese or Japanese since a symbol means a word and a concept rather than a sound and a number, thus to make a significant number of meaningful sentences you'd need a much bigger sample than the Bible, or Moby Dick, or War and Peace.

I'm not sure why the Bible would need to be considered "fake", because the whole code thing is bogus reasoning? It's always amazing to me that people take a book like the bible and write it off as "a lie" because it doesn't live up to the claims of various people's take on it. It's like taking the book Lord of the Rings and saying, "It's all a lie!! None of that really ever happened!". Well of course not, it's a story.

The Bible is a book of mythology. And what's funny about it, is how people create myths surrounding it. It appeals to that attraction of humans to myths. Myths about myths are even more sensational to the imagination.

Few things to say:

1) No grampa, you are not on ignore. I'm in a different, non american time zone and getting both educated and indoctrinated day and night - when I DO ave time to check out x, the net is slow and/or I'm exhausted.

And thank you so much for that amazing sight with interesting points of view and counter-arguments.

2) Very, very true, Antlerman, just because something is not 'absolute' does not make it useless, which is what fanatics and fundamentalists would like us to believe - the need for binary thinking.

3) I had this amazing idea, probably not the first time I had it and probably not theo nly one who has - so for me, it's absurd to think that go'ds word is writen down in a book, and only in that book. Books are succeptible to both human interpretation , mistranslation, etc...

so thus, god's book is written in reality. It all leads back to god, the matrix, etc... when the student is ready, the teacher will appear and more will be revealed. Maybe a moby dick novel and the bible can both offer predictions is because, like everything else, you can see the fabric of god, or the great weave of worlds, within it if you look hardenough. You could take a shirt, a plant, and do the same thing sooner or later. It all leads back to god, or the 'ultimate'. Maybe that's why, to bring on psychic visions, you sometimes have to repeat things, or gaze into a crystal ball, etc... it focuses so hard on a small thing that the 'hidden' things start to come out.

4) Does anyone know any good jewish orthodox deprogramming sites? I think I may be in need of them, now or soon, very soon.

Actually, it's more to do with self affine structures and their impact on wordsearch puzzles.

The Torah Code is interesting. Rather than the cluster fuck that is the Bible code (which is based on the Torah code and was "discovered" by an atheist), when using the Torah in the original Hebrew, that is studied by a group of actual scientist, and it has shown to meet mathematical consistencies, rather than a random word search that is the Bible code. It takes on a liking to that of Nostradamus' prophecies.

I've even talked with one of the scientist that studies it.

TBH, as I said earlier, languages like Hebrew are EASIER to form words in than languages with explicit vowels... and unless the "alphabet" is exclusively word pictograms, it can pretty well be done in any human readable language.

It's something to do with the fact that word structures have rules as does grammar... so it just looks like it's unlikely, when really it's pretty much a sure thing...

Okay, so we had this teacher who was telling us about dating and marriage, etc... And how to be good girls right?

And a marriage is work, etc... etc.....

And then, she says, in a marriage, which comes first, the husband or the children? And I was the only person who blurted out, the children. Everyone else said marriage.

She actually started saying that in a marriage your husband should be the one you love the most. She also said that you bond with some children better than others and those relationships need work or you can end up loving the other child more...

I was horrified.

I asked this other rabbi who was lecturing later his opinion. And he agreed. Children are something you raise, you see, and of course you love them, but you and your spouse are actually joined as one person spiritually and so your relationship is eternal while your children go off and do their own thing eventually (which I understand, and it doesn't mean you don't love your children as much or more than your spouse/partner)...

I was horrified.

A couple of students actually tried to explain to me why you should love your spouse more than you love your children.

I think that's insane. It's important, very important, to make sure your relationship to your spouse has it's own quality time if the marriage is going to survive beyond raising kids and the hustle and bustle of your 20s, 30s, 40s, etc. But the way I see, as much as you love your spouse, and you can maybe even love your spouse as much as your children, but as much as you love your spouse, if you do not love your children as much or more, and do not put their welfare first, you are a fucking scary person to me.

The people in my seminar seem to feel that loving your spouse more than your children is important.

... I just spoke to this student who also thinks it's wrong...

Are we crazy... or are these folks crazy? I'd say them, but so many of them seemed to feel that was a good idea.

you're right, they're crazy. Kids are a part of you. They're the bit that will live on after you're dust (inshallah!) They're our only tangible 'purpose' for being here...

Someone you married isn't... they may be wonderful, they may equally be a drunken violent unfaithful waste of flesh... either way, they're just as much of a dead end as anyone else... unless they make a good job of raising the kids. Kids who are loved usually work out better than the ones who know they're always competing for affection with an parent.

I'd say they're emotional cripples who shouldn't be allowed to breed.

My children are just that, children. My husband, well, he's an adult. To put the needs of a child behind the needs of an adult to me doesn't make sense. Who really has the greater need? A child who is developing into an adult or an adult who should have already developed into an adult? Any adult who needs to have their ego stroked and have their needs placed before a child's hasn't truly developed as an individual and really is quite immature in my opinion. This goes back to the crap about man being head of house.

Maybe it's just me but why in the heck have children if that's the way you feel? Just to procreate like the bible says?

Bear in mind, the bible treats children as the husband's property. Hell, you don't even get fined for killing one until they're around 6.

That's hot.

seriously, though, that's what I thought. Even when a child grows up, say your fchild is thirty and you're a senior citizen. You might divorce, remarry, and balance time for your own interests or new husband, you won't be as involved in a child's life. But if you're going to jump off a bridge, or if you have two hands out, and on one end is your partner dangling from a cliff and the other end is your 50 year old child who's already done the duty of procreating, and you can only save one, it better damn well be your child, and not just because the bible says so or they will carry on your legacy. I think it's only natural, that even more precious than a spouse, your offspring are more precious.

I had found a book once talking about a Kabbalah Code within Genesis. Each letter of the Hebrew had a special mystical meaning, and each word in the Genesis (particularly the first couple of chapters, which are less narrative than later chapters) was a mystical sentence about existence.

It was all high level metaphysics. And far more interesting than finding Hitler's name backwards and diagonal crossing with George W. Bush.

Do the Bible Code books use the Hebrew, or English versions of the Bible? And whose typesetting do they use? I'd think a pocket version of the Bible would reveal different answers than one of those giant annoted ones.

I don't know of anything that can be closer than a living person that you made. You may be legally and spiritually bond to a spouse, but a child is composed of the same stuff you are made of.

Nah its all crap really. Bible is a collection of different narratives and genres, alot of it time-bound, alot of it plain patriarchal (sexist), e.g. just read most of the O/T books! Its not some silly encyclopedia or an enigma code waiting to be cracked. I'm usually seen smacking my head in horror at all the stupid 'bible codes revealed!' books out there as I stride past the spirituality section in the library (quite a comical site to behold really)
