Recovering Catholic

I'm 22 years old and it been a couple years since i really started to question my religious up bringing. My parnets are both believers of the catholic faith. Like most children born into catholic families i went to catholic school and was raised in the church. Being young I just believed everything i was told was the truth. The bible, adam and eve, santa clause and the likes. i only went to religious school from the 2nd to 3rd grade. After that my family was basicly church going on sundays and the requsite holidays. Until about shortly after my confirmation my family really stopped going to church regurally. Through out high school I never really thought about religion much. I never really thought much at all to begin with. Towards the end of high school I fell in with a rough crowd got involved with substance abuse.

 

By this time i had just turned 20 and realized i had never really thought for myself. I immediatly related to all this to a religious expierence with the devil trying to steal my soul. These feeling persisted for about a year. During that year i had also been reading whatever i could get my hands on, and i started to feel that my religious fervor was basicaly me being delusional. This is basicly when i realized (lots of obvious realizatoins at the time ) that no supernatural being god or devil influenced my decisions. The decisions i made in my youth were made out of ignorance.

 

The last couple years i have been very angry at what i feel is having been lied to all my life but i'm starting to get over that. Thats the basic jist of it thus far. By the way Hitchhikers Guide to the Universe was my biggest influence in realizing how absurd all religion is.
