SWIM
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xvyQRdlKiwI My turn to be pissed off. I was surfing the SAB and in the message board I found the above link from a Creationist claiming PROOF that evolution is a lie. Wow he used the *P* word! So I check it out. The logic is creative, yet flawed, but what STUNNED me was in the video is what appeared to be, and he presented them as *actual* photographs of giant human skeletons! After watching the video I googled "giant human skeletons" and lo and behold, staring me right in the face was *his* *proof* photo... In an article about HOAXES UNCOVERED!!! Further digging on my part revealed all the photos were either non-existent or also hoaxes.. But that is NOT why I am pissed. I am pissed because I tried to leave a comment encouraging people to at least google "Giant Human Skeletons" and read about them on archeology.org But NOOOOooooOOOoooo sirry bob! COMMENTS pending approval.... Rating system disabled convieniently when he has 5 stars.... All the visible comments are basically sucking his ass.... Not only is this moron promoting bullshit, he is screening all responses AND ratings to give himself artifical credibilty, it goes *beyond* arrogant... It is flat damned obscene.... /rant

"Honest Creationist", by definition, is a contradiction in terms - an oxymoron. Those people piss me the fuck off to no end, especially since I once bought into that shit - and yes, even the YEC bullshit briefly - when I was a fundie. I was terribly, embarrassingly ignorant at the time, but then that's part of being a fundie, isn't it?
Brother Jeff
Linux is only free if your time is worthless... Man, isn't that the truth! Linux sucks. See this thread.
SWIM
Linux is only free if your time is worthless... Man, isn't that the truth! Linux sucks. See this thread. LOL I feel your pain. I still use it though on my servers, after going through simlar shit you did, I finally got the feel of it (sort of) now, for server purposes, I am pretty much anchored to it. (More like a ball and chain). During my linux early years it was free (Older versions still are today). And like the sig says, there is nothing free about linux/unix. BlueGiant
Like the time savings are that much greater with Windows (constant stability problems/DLL Hell/getting decent diagnostic software), or OS X (tracking down good non-mac supplied software, largely go with linux-style solutions)? I'd just like to point out that all OSes have points at which they completely blow.
ShackledNoMore
Grrrr... <rant> The older computer that my wife uses for stuff like e-mail, web browsing, light duty word processing, etc... Bought it a couple of months before XP came out. It came with ME, the worst OS ever put out by Microsoft, and the worst OS I have ever used. Used my coupon to upgrade to XP when it came out for $20. I was a little irritated when I saw that I saw I had to upgrade and keep my FAT file system rather than install fresh (that, or I perceived other options as too much hassle, it was a while ago). Fast forward. The system is extremely painful to use now. I'd be happy being able to just reinstall the OS(s), but I can no longer find my disks. Since they were OEM, I'm supposed to go to the vendor, not Microsoft. The vendor will only provide the same upgrade path from ME to XP that I originally paid for, but they no longer support ME, I'm out of luck, try Microsoft. Of course Microsoft would be happy to re-sell me a new OS that I already paid for and own, for a triple digit figure. So rather than let M$ rob me or find a bootleg copy, I vow never to send another red cent their way again if I don't NEED one of their products with no other option, and I download ubuntu instead. I figured the easiest way to keep thing seamless for my wife during the transition is to buy a 10 Gb hard drive for six bucks from a used electronics store, install ubuntu on that, and dual boot. Neither OS would boot after installation. After probing around and starting to read a little about GRUB I get XP booting again, but I just haven't had the time to figure out yet how to get around the problem of booting to linux. And once I do I know I'm not going to be able to connect to the Internet and print with the setup I've got until I search and troubleshoot and waste time some more. And WTF would I do if I were one of the many people like my wife who just casually uses a computer for their apps!!??? </rant>
Jack
Fun project: Post superficially fundy-minded, titsucking comments with a hint of sarcasm in them and see if you get approved. Mine, not yet approved (maybe I did it wrong), was something like: "Wow, nice job. You must be quite intelligent to disprove a cornerstone of biology like that. Kudos on pointing out elementary flaws that professional scientists didn't catch. Keep the videos coming, man, they make work shorter." It seems a bit too overt to me now; if it's not approved in a few days I'll try again later.

Ouroboros
So the Evolution believes we come from goo? (Which is an extreme oversimplification and just word spinning) But what does Creationism believe we come from? Dust! Is that any better? I knew that guy is an idiot the first 3 seconds. Setting up a dual boot using the installer rarely comes out clean in my experience and you have to do some editing of grub.conf to get it right. The first time I installed linux was using Ubuntu and I have 3 drives, long story short, grub kept trying to boot Ubuntu from my XP drive. As to your other worry.. in my experience getting network connectivity is much, much more difficult in Windows than linux and Ubuntu's installer is pretty much idiot-proof. I didn't have to change a thing. Printing may be trickier depending on whether there are drivers available for your printer. And WTF would I do if I were one of the many people like my wife who just casually uses a computer for their apps!!??? If they weren't trying to set up a dual boot or any thing I'd say it'd probably be easier for people like that to install and use Ubuntu than get Windows running and secure.
