Do Christians Ever Watch The Discovery Channel?

I have noticed that the discovery channel is pretty good about telling both sides of the arguements on it's biblical topics. They nearly always end up disputing bible claims.

Do christians feel the discovery channel is full of it?

Beastie had his lds buddy Sam over for an overnighter few weeks ago. Something was on late night Discovery, we all watched it.

Sam said something along lines of "I like to come over here, 'cause my MOM won't let me watch things like this."

I asked "The show on now?"

"Oh no, Discovery period!"

We play lots of *Carlin on DVD* when Sam is here, plus we always talk fairly deep shit as we are inclined to do. He has gotten several years worth of scepticism shot around his ears and eyes...

Best compliment Sam has passed my way is "Gee there's no WAY you caould have been RAISED a Mormon!" :)

He's totally cut off any kind scientific input via cable TV... He isn't the only one from whats gathered by asking other religious-known parents..

What made me think of this topic was my wife. Last night she called me in from the office to watch how they "Proved" exodus took place. The bottom line of the whole show was "there is no proof"...

Which of course fried her.

My wife refuses to watch any of those shows. She used to watch some of them but the more she got tied up with religion the less she wanted to (she used to like dinosaur shows a lot but now she won't watch them and barely tolerates the commercials).

Personally, I think the shows are so-so. It really depends on the topic. I've seen the Exodus show you mentioned and it spends a lot of time with theories that were half-assed just to give xians "hope" of something when it should have just got on with it. I have high hopes for the upcoming special based on the Bible Unearthed. That promises to be a very good show if the producers don't screw it up.

Oh I agree with that, but even though the exodus show was half assed, (I totally agree) it did end by pretty much summing up that it is NOT proven, which of course, fried her. She called me in thinking she found one she could chaulk up as a "win" lol. Of course the theories had to be stupid or she would have never bought it.... ROFMAO

Yeah, some of the shows suck, but some are surpisingly, and refreshingly straight forward.

The ones on end time prophecies seem the most bias TOWARD christianity then other shows, but even that slanted one, toward the end during sum-up it basically says "NO" its all not supported in fact... I think they do that sometimes on purpose, to suck in religious folks so they can drop the bomb, "it's not proven, and other more logical theories are more likely".

I try to get her to watch it every chance I get because of some shows appealing to her, it helps me explain why the non-biblical answer makes more sense pretty much allways.

I always watched Discovery (and its various versions) when married, but usually had to do so "on the sly" when religious-based shows came on because I KNEW the show would generally turn the argument on its head and...well...I was too afraid of arguments with the wife since they always ended with a door slammed in my face.
