Goodbye Jesus

Never Thought That Would Happen To Me Here

Well well, what can I say?

So we got a new trainee in our team for a while. Not clear yet when she'll move on. This week, she gets to be trained by me, in the fine art of "how to get done with one caller as soon as possible to be free for the next caller".

She's smart.

She's cute.

She's a YEC. :blink::banghead:

Well, technically at least. I knew that somewhere there must be some (unimpressive - not obviously insane) YEC among us Germans, but this is the first time I meet one of them outside of an obvious "I'm a true morontheist preaching the bullshit to everything that moves" situation.

And the funny thing is - so far I can respect her. You see... so far she didn't try to preach even one single time, and as far as I can tell, she's more of the "naive sheltered" YEC kind. Her position is pretty much "You know, I have no idea how those scientists think they can find out how old everything is, really. But I know why I believe personally".

(I did provide her with the damning list of URLs, you know, talkorigins.org et al... sadly she's not exactly very skilled in English. Well, we'll see what the future brings)

Indeed she seems to be totally tolerant of differing views, a la "leave me alone and I'll leave you your peace in (un-)belief too".

I wonder where this will go on from here. I'm armed to the teeth in case she should finally start preaching, but I'd hate having to do it. We've had a number of interesting and civil discussions and I'd like for things to stay that way. Even where religion is concerned.

Very weird that.

Oh well, I guess there must be creationists of the "harmless respectful" kind too, just to provide contrast. So far I can only say "more power to them"...

Many of My followers are very nice folks, thanks to My Spook Who is also somehow magically Me magically living inside of them. They just lack spiritual discernment, and they have unfortunately been tragically misled by the tares that have been sown by the Talking Snake among My wheat. All will be revealed for who they really are when the time comes for my friendly spooks to gather the harvest up and thresh it all out and stuff.

Anyway, blame the Talking Snake's evil creationist servants, not Me or My Spook.

Seriously, she sounds like a nice person, but also like a tragically typically ignorant fundie. I hope things do stay civil, and that she can benefit from the educational links you have to offer her. Glory!

Many are nice people just believing what they are told to believe.

I wouldn't date her though.

Eh, don't worry - even though Islington and me are somewhat "open to new experiences", I severely doubt that she (or her husband) would agree to that :)

Sounds like an interesting situation. How did today go? Keep us posted. Somehow, I take a real fancy to stories about how fundamentalism plays out in real life in various parts of the world and I've learned so much from online forums. So much, in fact, that it gave direction to my education. I think that says something.

She was working with a colleague this time, and I guess now that your helpdesk cutie is back at work for two days (as she's a student at the local Uni, during semester she can only work on a somewhat arbitrary schedule) I assume she'll sit at her desk for the rest of the week (our trainees are supposed to get to know different work styles after all, and dear Antje's name doesn't have a checkmark behind her name in this aspect yet) :)

But yeah, I'll keep you posted about any interesting things happening :)
