Higher Form Of Biblical Criticism

All Christian must learn to examine the bible more critically. There is so much with in it that most Christians are missing. They must stop thinking everything is literal and accept it as being written by human hands with no inspiration from the holy ghost. How many agree?

The whole bible is filled with contradictions and science fallacies. It's just a damn book. Put in on the shelf next to Moby Dick and be done with it.

Sorry for the misspelling, just noticed I did that :).

Indeed, it is an archaic text and the majority of Christians must understand this. It is filled with tons of mistranslations and prejudice.

If people understood the origins of the bible, and the many illogical, contradictory, patent falsehood and inaccuracies of the bible, there would be "no" christians, as that is where christianity comes from. Claiming to be a christian, while in the same breath denouncing the bible is a contradiction in itself...

Kinda like being in a looney bin saying "look at all the loonies..."

Well I understand the full origins of the bible and I still am a Christian although I am a liberal and progressive one. My beliefs are heretical to all other conservative/mainline Christians.

Ah!

Yet another agnostic that named his pet god jesus... Might as well name him Zeus for all the good that does you.

Have fun with that.

Funny how the "jesus" thing seems to be the very last thing future atheist/agnostics hang onto before making the leap of total deconversion...

Define Christian, meaning why do you consider yourself a christian number one, and number two why do you believe others see you as a heretic?

A Christian to me is anyone who sincerely believe themselves to be a Christian or anyone who follows the sayings of Jesus. And I would be consider heretical because all of my beliefs are different from all of the traditional Christian beliefs. For exmaple: I do not believe in the trinity, I do not believe Jesus was a god nor the son of god, I do not believe in an eternal hell, I do not believe in heaven, I do not believe in demons, I believe god listens to prayers; but does not answer them, I do not believe in an interrant bible, I do not believe Homosexuality, Bisexuality, Pansexuality, Transgender people, Asexuality, or Paraphilia is a sin, I do not believe in original sin, and I do not believe the Creation story was real. All of this is considerd herectical to all conservative and mainline Christians. Although, Liberal and Progressive Christians accept me and my beliefs. And some of my atheist and agnostic friends give me compliments and wish all Christians where more like me. Oh and I still believe in an afterlife, but it is not of the Christian norm.

Well, since you *learn* about christianity from people that read the bible, or the bible itself, you seem to discard the majority of the bible in contrast. If you think 99% of the bible is bullshit, how does the 1% gain a foothold in your mind?

He didn't really *teach* anything at all that was not already basic common sense. (the parts you *like* that is)...

I think, like other lip service christians here, it's just a basic fear of hell that stops you, ultimately from just dropping the whole "jesus" stuff from your personal agnostic/buddist form of christainity.

Like I said, jesus is no more then just a *name* you give your own personal god of your understanding. Not the first time we have seen it here, and won't be the last.

Your wrong. I do not believe in hell or that Jesus is a God. God has no true name and Jesus or Yeshua was just a human being spreading what he believed. And it is not that I am throwing away all that the bible saids, I am jsut looking through a more critical lens. The word trinity does not appear in the bible and it has been proven by scholars that it was influenced by early church fathers who where influenced by Constatine. And it has been proven that some of the evidence in the bible that proves it; are forgeries.

Myron,

I think you are an intelligent Christian...and a free- thinker. For that I applaud you. I was once where you are now. I had so many problems with the Bible. However, ultimately I realized my problem was not just with the Bible, but with the very FOUNDATION of Judeo/Christian thought. The very idea of human beings being sinful in nature, cast out of eden for disobeyeing God, needing a savior or being damned to hell, God mutilating and murdering his own son to make a statement etc is horrific! Is there anything MORE EVIL than a God like that? Can yout hink of anything WORSE than being created solely to worship a dictator who would banish you to hell if you disobeyed and did not repent? A creator who would allow his own son to be crucified and die when he could just send us all to heaven if he wanted to? If that is the essence of Christian faith, I would rather burn in hell.

YES EXACTLY :):D. You understand perfectly how I feel. All of that seems so wrong to me. How can people be blinded by such a thing? It is a sin in itself to believe that garbage.

ROFL, you do not want me to get started on how irrational the bible tells that story.

I used to believe in all of the traditional beliefs of Christians. But I began to question some of it. And it led to me to what I am now a Free thinker; a Free Christian is what progressive and liberals call themselves.

Most evidence is that Constantine didn't give a rat's ass as long as the Christians stopped being such a fucking nuisance, killing each other, ratting each other out as seditionists etc. The trinity comes from Tarsean Christianity, who believed that there were three gods in a hierarchy. The doctrine of the Trinity was part of a masterstroke by Eusebeus in that he made Jamesian, Tarsean, and Arian Christianity both correct and heretical all at the same time while incorporating Marcionite views of the famous Tarsean mainstream and heretical...

Am I? First, you don't think jesus is lard, second, you say he's just a guy, I would assume by this you do NOT believe he died for your sins and was resurrected (undeaded like Bro Jeff says lol).

These are basic beliefs of christianity. Of course christians think of you as a heretic, just like they think of my agnostic ass as one, because plan and simple you are not a christian.

You found some nice things in the bible you like, great! But uhm.. so? There are much more profound philosophies in other books, but you aren't claiming them as your religion...

The teachings of jesus, though many are good, are first-grade simple, and not deep by any means.

But, oh well. like I said, you aren't the first agnostic in christian clothes to come here, and you won't be the last.

Not railing on you, basically I am giving you the same third degree as I did a few other "christians" coming in here. IMO for what it's worth, you are closer to breaking free of religion all together then you realize, and that is a good thing.

:)

But anyway, welcome by the way, should have said this first before I tried to take your clothes off... hehe

I feel as though you are attacking me. I have read PLENTY of philosophies in my life and I accept them; from Asian to Greek. You have listened to the garbage of what conservative Christians have said for far too long and now you think anything other than that is not Christian. And Jesus was just a man, many scholars have proven that in the early Christian movement EVERYONE thought he was just a man. But Christianity evolved over time to include the belief that he was a God. You should do more research into the topic of early Christianity to find out more of what I say. I do not want you to accept or believe what I believe, but at least respect my beliefs and do not attack me. Oh did I also mention I am also philosophically a Confucian and a little Marxist :), and thanks for welcoming me.

Most here know the early stuff, and the evolution stopped when Eusebeus landed control, and Athanathius started slaughtering anyone who disagreed, only this time with the Empire's sanction. At the moment you're managing just to piss me off, delivering your shit like it's 'new' to us..

1) largely, it's neither novel, nor has the redeeming feature of being well delivered

2) you're telling people who suffered the fucking virus they weren't True Christians ...

Well, warming over Spong (who says it a lot better) ain't gonna win brownie points with anyone much.

I can only assume the hubris of youth...

Not attacking you, just trying to make you see that you can discect a book to oblivion and make it say anything you want. Sometimes a cold hard slap in the face with common sense is what it takes to wake people up.

Eventually when you finish discarding this crap you will see what I am saying.
