Ahh! Posted November 11, 2007 Posted November 11, 2007 Which religious nuts have local access shows in your area? For me: Yisrayl Hawkins http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yisrayl_Hawkins Ching Hai http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suma_Ching_Hai Royall Jenkins, "Allah in Person" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Nation_of_Islam There's also a Moonie minister. Then there is this old guy who looks like Colonel Sanders. He sings Bible verses off key to the beat of the national anthemn.
Ex-COG Posted November 12, 2007 Posted November 12, 2007 There are mostly religious programs on my local access channel. Pentecostal, Catholic, Orthodox, Seventh Day Adventist...oh, and Yisrayl Hawkins, too. We also have a few local political programs, a guy that runs old B-flicks from the fifties, some "thug" type guys showing uncensored videos, and several shows focusing on conspiracy theories. When there is no programing on, they play jazz/R&B. I often turn it on just for the music. All of this, however, will soon be gone from my screen. The good state of Indiana (snort) was lobbied by the communications companies to drop the requirement of providing local access programing. The good legislature of Indiana (gag) agreed and released them from this unprofitable burden. My local cable company has already cut back the local access programing to three days a week, and is due to phase all of it out by the middle of December. (Merry Christmas, Hoosiers!) They have also recently dropped C-Span 2 from my cable list (I loved Book TV!). I signed up for the cheapest package with a limited amount of stations, as I'm trying to save money and don't watch a ton of TV anyway. But other than my local network and public stations, Discovery, WGN, BET, and TBS, I am stuck with only C-Span 1, my local religious channel and EWTN, and THREE (!) shopping networks. I am seriously thinking of cancelling cable and just renting DVDs. Damn Comcast to hell...er, wait, there is no hell. Sorry Ahh!, for kinda derailing your thread. But yeah, the local access station is mostly dominated by religious loonies. I will miss the jazz more than them.
SWIM Posted November 12, 2007 Posted November 12, 2007 I don't receive local access since I use dishnetwork, but here is a common trend I see happening on dish. That's the dreaded RCC. They have lots of channels on dish, most cost them a fortune too. Thankfully channel lock-out works well!
Skiergirl24 Posted November 12, 2007 Posted November 12, 2007 We have BCTN-Boston Catholic Televesion Network. Compared to the fundie stuff I have seen when in the South, this is very tame.
Amethyst Posted November 12, 2007 Posted November 12, 2007 I don't watch local access. I don't watch TV that much at all, Heroes and Smallville are the only shows I watch regularly.
Robbobrob Posted November 13, 2007 Posted November 13, 2007 Other than a couple Rhode Island preachers who have "hip" shows on Sunday mornings, and one guy early weekday mornings (not hip), my rabbit ears tend to miss all the fun religious programming.
Rhia Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 Don't know his name, but he's in Philly, and here are the by-laws for his church. They are TOTALLY insane! They tell people what they can and cannot wear, and even discuss whether or not a child is allowed on amusement park rides! bookofbylaws_2006.pdf
