Eccles
I just saw that movie. What is the fuss all about? What is with the "Holy" Roman Catholic Church? Where in that movie is it anti-Christian? I certainly could not see anything objectional. From the point of view of me who has worked in the movie industry it was excellent. The special effects were brilliant, the sets were breath-taking and the acting first class. Anyone who is upset by that movie should join the human race. sethosayher
**SPOILERS** Well the books are pretty anti-religious, IMO. Still a fantastic read. The Movies have diluted that message in order to placate the mobs of raving Xians who might be offended by the strident anti-Christian/church/theocracy messages embedded in the text. starelda
I've seen the film and I'm currently reading the books. I've heard basically the same as what sethosayher has said...that the film has been toned down.

Naughtyhamster
Well, one thing for sure the books are sure not too appropriate for the very very young. I even got nauseous reading about how the polar bear slaughtered one of his enemies.
Eccles
What a pity Americans don't enjoy Freedom of Speech. As soon as anybody says one word that might be considered a criticisim of Christianity all hell breaks loose. Why does Christianity enjoy that status "Thou shalt not say a word against Christianity". Well it is about time Christianity got a big thumping there. I have been watching videos of Kent Hovind's seminars. What a whacko he is saying science is WRONG and only the bible is right. Saying that the World is only 6000 years old. He claims he is the only person who is right and all others are wrong including many church leaders. As Richard Dawkins says, Hovind is brainwashing kids with lies from the bible and telling them the truth of Science is all lies.
MathGeek
What a pity Americans don't enjoy Freedom of Speech. As soon as anybody says one word that might be considered a criticisim of Christianity all hell breaks loose. Why does Christianity enjoy that status "Thou shalt not say a word against Christianity". Well it is about time Christianity got a big thumping there. I agree, but it won't likely happen since reality dictates otherwise. I think there will be bloodshed in the USA if Christianity is undermined. Most Christians react violently because they are defending a system that was never logical to start with, it was built on emotion. Taking Christ as one's savior is an emotional exercise, and it takes a lot of time and effort to leave it. As since the American way of life is built upon freedom of religion and since the USA is "A Christian Nation", there are many logical and emotional reasons why people don't say or do anything against it. No wonder there are so few vocal freethinkers in this country. The poison is too far deep in the veins.
woodsmoke
**SPOILERS** Well the books are pretty anti-religious, IMO. Still a fantastic read. The Movies have diluted that message in order to placate the mobs of raving Xians who might be offended by the strident anti-Christian/church/theocracy messages embedded in the text. Which turned out to be quite the bitter irony, as the same Christians who were bitching about that are now bitching about it being toned down in order to hide the anti-religious message of the books and encourage kids to read them. Personally, I think the director should have gone balls-out on the film. If these people are going to bitch anyway, no good reason not to really give them something to bitch about.
