Dane Cook's Vicious Circle

Recommended Posts

Has anyone ever seen his HBO special, VICIOUS CIRCLE? The reason I ask is because he tells this story about being sneezed on by an atheist and it's rather a clever joke....even if he is stupid for believing in the Bible.

He's funny sometimes, other times he's just sick.

He's right about one thing. Snarky is a great word.

Often find him funny. Not this time particularly. But does anyone else think it's hilarious that a huge, foul-mouthed, asshole like Dane Cook thinks he's going to heaven?? Apparently he's going to "live a good life". Wow. Had I known I could live that way and still go to heaven I might have stayed!

LOL, what's even funnier than that is if you watch the HBO series TOURGASM which was produced and directed by Cook in which he and three other comedians go on the road for 30 days, one of his "buddies" is offended because they're talking about porn on the tour bus because he is trying to get closer to god.

O Fucking K. Whatever.

This routine isn't even particularly funny. Yeah, I got a chuckle out of it, but I've seen Cook do way better routines. The ending joke was pretty obvious once he starts the "chopping down" part. Who knows if Dane really believes it or not, he's just playing the crowd.

I thought this comment on the vid was funnier than the vid:

"Atheists, please let it go, seriously guys, very few people want you to hear you proclaim your beliefs that religion is a sham, seriously guys, just let it go."

My irony meter blew... :P

appropriate for such a joke thief...he's a believer, of course! Now it makes sense.

Hmmm...I guess I just don't get the appeal of Dane. He's a "boy band" of comedy in my opinion.

What's really funny is his hit ratio. It seems like for every 3 or 4 specials he does, only 1 actually contains more than 1 funny joke. I barely laughed watching his first special, but the one with Dave Attell and Greg Giraldo, he killed. This most recent one, eh.

I think that guy from Mad TV does him better than he does himself.

Reminds me of the Seinfeld where Jerry accuses the other comic of riding his coat tails in the line-up. So he purposely throws his performance to prove the other guy is only getting laughs because he follows him and not because he has any good material.

The first time I ever heard him perform was on Premium Blend and I just could not believe anyone would find him funny. He told that stupid joke about shitting on the coats at a party. Disgusting.

Oh, yeah and then on that HBO special he took a dump in a bucket on the tour bus and showed it to his buddy while he was eating breakfast. What kind of human does shit like that?

Anyway, most comedians suck. I like Lewis Black or Mitch Hedberg. Oh yeah, and I like that Carlos Mencia guy. He's pretty funny.

Speaking of joke thieves...

The thing about Dane Cook is he can be funny--in extremely small doses. In Waiting..., he's one of the cooks, has a total of probably 5 lines throughout the entire movie, and it works really well. "Welcome to Thunder Dome, bitch!" is a perennial favorite around my house. Similarly, for all I thought the movie was retarded, his audition appearance as Waffleman in Mystery Men was hilarious, and every now and then I or one of my roommates will spontaneously start singing his theme song.

After more than about 30 seconds or so, however; yeah, he just starts to wear.

Carlos Mencia has been getting steadily less funny the more he's on air. He's like a water gun: the longer you fire it, the less power it has.

The only funny bits I've ever heard Dane Cook do is the Burger King one and then the wierd guy at work. Other than that I don't think he's funny.

My favorite comedians are Christopher Titus, Lewis Black and the Blue Collar Comedy guys.

Speaking of the Blue Collar guys, Ron White is my favorite. He absolutley kills me. "We got passed by a kite!"

Also, I really dig that Jeff Dunham guy, esp. his character "Achmed" That shit had me laughing so fucking hard the other day! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1uwOL4rB-go

I don't think Dane Cook is funny. Dave Attell, either. I guess I just don't like mean humor.

On Comedy Central, I really like Patton Oswalt, Jim Gaffigan, Maria Bamford, Lewis Black, Mitch Hedberg, to name a few.

My all-time favorite hasn't appeared on Comedy Central; Eddie Izzard, who has some really funny stuff about religion and the bible. Check out "Cake or Death" on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IfcKksX0yP4

Eddie Izzard!!!!

The only comic I can take on a routine basis, I got all his stuff that was on Napster. And yeah Dane Cook is rarely funny, usually just gross. The worst part is he's huge with college age guys who think if Dane Cook says it, it becomes "ok" (like the closet shit bit).
