What's your favorite hobby or pastime? Any new "addictions" since leaving the fold?

Mine is watching the Travel Channel. I'm simply addicted to it. I love that sickeningly sweet Samantha Brown! And Anthony Bourdain is just too cool for school.

My next hobby will be doing the actual traveling! I soooooo want to run away to Costa Rica!

The Travel Channel Rules! What's your favorite channel?

Porn...no wait...I do that LESS now...

Um...I guess I watch and read stuff that would have bothered me before.

YouTube...that was an obsession, but the thrill has waned somewhat lately.

Overall I'm still looking for new things to explore and/or do...

If you think youtube is addicting, don't go to redtube. You'll really be in trouble.

Hobbies since leaving Christianity?

Lots of them. Paranormal research and investigations are probably foremost on my list. Next would be Irish Dance. I'm just getting started with that. Since becoming single again, I've gotten back into amateur radio after about four years of being inactive. I have always been a cyclist, but more recently I have started mountain biking. I went on one excursion through the Adirondacks last summer and plan on going again this summer.

Movies? I watch a lot more movies than I did before. Unless I get free tix from work or someone invites me, I typically wait for new movies to come out on DVD rather than go to the theatre.

TV? I watch Ghosthunters, Ghost Whisperer, Mythbusters, Smash Lab, The Simpsons, and Family Guy. And sometimes Dirty Jobs because I find what other people do for a living to be fascinating -- and I love Mike Rowe's sense of humor and I think he's kinda hot -- in a geeky sort of way.

I am addicted to the Bravo channel. Especially Project Runway, Top Chef, Top Designer, Make Me a Supermodel, all those competiton type shows. I like the History Channel sometimes and Animal Planet. I rent movies from Netflix and watch them.

I always have 3 or 4 library books laying around the house. I am interested in astrology. I am studying a branch of Hindu philosophy. My aquariums, plants and cat satisfy my urge to take care of living things.

Ah, yes, I am a beginning student of astrology as well! There's so much information that it can be overwhelming!

My latest is World of Warcraft. I play a level 70 affliction warlock and I'm in a raiding guild that is working on getting Kael'thas down (one of the hardest bosses in the game). Last night I was #2 dps on Al'ar (yay!!!) I also have a low level shaman alt that I play occassionally.

I enjoy seeing the content and the challenges of getting the bosses down and the social aspect of the game. I'm also one of only a few women players in the guild. I can see why most women don't like computer games, but if you have the time, why not play? They're fun.

The only TV show I really enjoy lately is Heroes and it won't be back til next fall. :(

I like anything having to do with science fiction pretty much. Been watching Stargate SG1 on DVD. I like it.

I don't ride with Jesus people, either. They have a way of turning everything into a ministry. Nope, this is just fun and relaxing.

Added since deconverting - taking geology courses for credit at the local uni (right now as a hobby but may get second degree), watch History channel & National Geographic channel a lot more now, and reading works critical to xianity.

Still like running marathons and working on my old car.

When I'm not spending WAY too much time online...

I like to write. I have two blogs going and two book projects in the works (one about Helen of Troy, the other about the impact of the Christian Right on America over the past 40 years). I also journal sometimes too, though less than I used to.

I like to paint, draw, and make prints. Sometimes I do this more than other times. I don't do it enough, in any case.

I like to do textile-related crafts, stuff I can carry around in my hands and do while I'm watching TV or hanging out with friends. Cross-stitch, needlepoint, or embroidery, maybe a little quilting (though I'm better at embroidery). I also love to spin wool, using a drop spindle, and make scarves or needlepoint samplers out of my spinnings.

When I have time, I like to play in the SCA. I have a degree in medieval history, after all. I finally got into period garb enough that my garb wardrobe is small, but every piece is quality. I've been thinking of developing an Elizabethan persona, after learning that the very first known member of my family (the first known Dew) was a stationer in Elizabethan England. For real.

I like to slack off. Seriously. If I could make a living doing nothing, I so totally would. I'd lie around the house, play Lego Star Wars on the PS2. Better yet, I'd lie around on a warm, sandy beach drinking margaritas. Every once in awhile, I'd get up to snorkel or bodysurf, then go back to lying on the beach in the sun.

Stuff like that...

Other then that I do lots of things.. I am a huge political junkie, I love Baseball and Football and do lots of stuff with my family... we love hiking, museums, movies, sports events, fairs (although I never allow my kids to ride the rides at fairs.. Never trust something that was put together in a few hours), Amusement parks.. . I'm a roller coaster Junkie too. :loser:

I am a workout addict (was back in the x-tian days too). But I'm training for a swim meet right now (which I haven't done in YEARS). I'm also trying to learn some guitar. Taught myself guitar years ago but all I knew were "praise songs." Now that I'm trying to learn "real guitar" it's funny that real music is so much harder

The only TV show I'm really into is "Lost." I've just recently started listening to a bunch of podcasts and Penn & Teller on You Tube. I also love "This Amercian Life" on NPR. I have to say that anything discussing the farce of religion has become a minor obsession for me now--books, videos, websites. Not sure why.

Finally, when I can get a turn (and with 3 kids and a husband that isn't often) I am enjoying Guitar Hero III on the Wii. First time I've gotten into any kind of video game. I usually don't have the patience for them...

My hobbies are pretty much the same as before deconversion - gardening, plants, etc. Except that I'm now into using more native plants with emphasis on plantings for wildlife food & protection. So my gardens look a lot "weedier" now. And I'm slowing getting into birding.

My favorite TV shows are What Not to Wear, Ace of Cakes & Mythbusters. Still like to rent & watch a lot of movies.

I love to write. I mostly write stories though, like novels or shorrt stories. I love working on novels since ideas tend to stay with me for quite a while. I also looooooooooooove music. I've got tons of songs on my mp3 player, plus I'm in marching band every fall (I'm a flute player). When I'm not writing or playing music I'm normally online.

Must be obvious to all observers but in case it isn't, here goes:

Ex-Christian.net

and similar forums

including my own

but exC tops them all for reasons I can't quite determine.

I like sports, football especially. I was a workout addict, but some recent health issues slowed that down. This site as Ruby Sera put it, is in my top interests now also. Very addictive, informative, and a lot of fun sometimes. This is way better than most TV.

Women after my own heart...

Sad to say I actually haven't found a chance to log into WoW in almost two weeks. Not that my life has come to a screeching halt as a consequence, mind you (quite the opposite, in fact, which is precisely why I've been unable to log on), but I look forward to things hopefully settling down some soon so I can get back into my hobby.

In case any of you didn't surmise as much from the above, I am a gamer. Video games, table-top (yes, "like D&D," though I personally prefer Earthdawn), miniatures, board games, etc. No LARP or CCGs, though. A guy's gotta' have standards. :P

I also love my Freedom On Two Wheels. I do look forward to the day I can upgrade to one of her bigger sisters, but my little Rebel is still one of my most prized possessions.

Reading is another valued activity, one which is thankfully enabled to a rather large degree by my current job. For the first time since high school, I've actually found myself running out of books to read and having to ask my roommates for recommendations and loaners. It's wonderful. Currently about 1/4 of the way through Bernard Cornwell's Stonehenge, with A Confederacy of Dunces and Running with Scissors in the queue.

I don't keep up with much T.V. Lost, Heroes and BSG are good, and I like to watch Nova, Nature and National Geographic when I can manage to catch them on PBS, along with the occasional special thereon or on History/Discovery channel. I like Family Guy, Robot Chicken and Futurama, but I don't go out of my way to see them.

Also, as is the wont of most of us here, I spend way too much time online surfing message boards. A tendency which looks only to increase in the near future, if all goes well. :)

Well, I'm obsessed with Stargate. I also like horseback riding, target shooting, writing and reading.

Since I left the Christianity? I've fallen in love with anything by Douglas Adams, and become much more interested in politics.
