Turkey In Radical Revision Of Islamic Texts

Turkey is preparing to publish a document that represents a revolutionary reinterpretation of Islam - and a controversial and radical modernisation of the religion.

The country's powerful Department of Religious Affairs has commissioned a team of theologians at Ankara University to carry out a fundamental revision of the Hadith, the second most sacred text in Islam after the Koran.

The Hadith is a collection of thousands of sayings reputed to come from the Prophet Muhammad.

As such, it is the principal guide for Muslims in interpreting the Koran and the source of the vast majority of Islamic law, or Sharia.

But the Turkish state has come to see the Hadith as having an often negative influence on a society it is in a hurry to modernise, and believes it responsible for obscuring the original values of Islam.

It says that a significant number of the sayings were never uttered by Muhammad, and even some that were need now to be reinterpreted.

That is just scary to read all those words together in that context...

Oh boy, will they feel the heat from that comment?...

That must be 1,000 times worse than drawing a cartoon of Muhammad.

I think it's a step in the right direction anyhow. The main difference (if I understand it correctly) between Shiites and Sunni is how much value they put into the Hadith. One believe it's almost as holy as the Quran itself, and the other believe it's a lot less - more like a guide only. And most of the cruel and awful laws they have, comes from Hadith, not from the Quran itself. That's at least what I remember, but I could be completely wrong.

Way to go Turkey! çok güzel! If there's any hope for the rest of the Middle East actually coming out of the middle ages, it will be through you. Arkadaşlar, hali sizleri çok seviyoruz, ve bizlerimi beraber oturyoruz. Tamam? :3:

Wonder if it's the raw beginning of peace?

If so, then things are moving rapidly.

oh pray tell me that I didn't just hear a subtle reference to the supposed peace that will give rise to the antichrist, and signal the coming end of the world? I think I did. :lmao:

Well Redadare if indeed you think this is the beginning of the end times you should probably help it along eh? Go join the evil UN or something and encourage world peace and harmony and all the other things that will culminate in the ultimate "gotcha" moment Christians are holding out for.

You know what the hell is with that crap anyway? These folks are the most godawful, selfish excuses for humanity, who if the Lawd does return, will be the first ones he ignites into flames, in his loving mercy... :fdevil:
