The Foolishness Of The Gospel

Brother Jeff

Recommended Posts

1 Corinthians 1:18 For the preaching of Kryasst’s big giant stick is to them that are headed for the eternal flaming torture chamber foolishness; but unto us which are slaved it is the magical power of Gawd.

Psalms 14:1 The fool hath said in his inner spook, There is no Magic Sky Man.

1 Corinthians 2:14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spook of Gawd who is also somehow magically Him: for they sound like bullshit unto him: neither can he know them, because they are discerned via the Spook.

It’s not unusual for Christians to cite the verses above as explanation for why skeptics don’t believe. We haven’t been magically born again in a spiritual sense, so we can’t understand the Bible and the “things of God’. Only a fool would say that there is no Magic Sky Man. The reason the preaching of the big giant stick sounds like foolishness to us is because we are not slaved and are blinded by the Talking Snake (2 Cor. 4:4). All of these excuses for why the gospel is foolishness to those who don’t believe are standard fundie fare, but they are all nothing but cop outs and easy ways for fundies to avoid the real issues and avoid daring to examine their beliefs rationally and critically and think for themselves.

Is the Christian message foolishness? Is it foolish to believe and preach the Gospel? The answer to both questions on rational, factual grounds is a resounding YES. The following are my thoughts on why that is so.

Christians frequently make the claim that the Bible predicts and reflects reality as it is. In reality, nothing could be futher from the truth! The Bible and demonstrable reality frequently are not in agreement. The following table outlines what the Bible teaches vs. what is demonstrable reality. For the sake of brevity, obviously it will not be comprehensive by any means, but it should serve to demonstrate just how far removed from reality the biblical accounts are.

The above table just barely scratches the surface of the disconnects between the Bible and demonstrable reality, but I think it makes my point quite nicely. Glory!

Christians tell us that it’s foolish not to believe. On this site, I demonstrate to Christians that the exact opposite is actually true. It is FOOLISH to believe! If the Bible is to be believed, then look at what must necessarily actually be true of the world and the universe. If the Bible is true, then we live in a small universe inhabited by invisible beings, God lives in the Sky, an Invisible Man created the universe, he is now magically holding it together and now lives in the Sky, evil spooks and friendly spooks exist and influence us, and so on. It’s all NONSENSE. My experiencing a religious conversion and deciding and insisting on an emotional basis that the Bible is somehow magically TRUE won’t change the fact that the Bible is filled with accounts that equal pre-scientific, mythological NONSENSE. That’s true of me and of everyone else, believer or not. The Bible does not represent or reflect reality. It does represent and reflect the thoughts of ancient men on the nature of the universe, the world, and the mythological beings that they believed were real.

I challenge Christians visiting this site to refute a single thing that is posted here and I challenge them to give me one single RATIONAL and/or FACTUAL reason to believe. Good luck! Glory!

The Gospel isn’t foolishness to “unsaved” people. The Gospel is foolishness to rational, educated, thinking people. That’s REALITY.

I have to agree with this thread. When I was a Christian, I was always taught that the bible had all the answers we ever needed, but it always made everything more confusing for me. It's funny how the universe suddenly makes more sense once you take God out of the picture.

Sure does make everything appear in a whole new light when the fantasy world is ditched.

It's kinda like those drawings of a cube that will appear to be facing toward or away from you at random. From our perspective, the bible is a collection of myths and ramblings by anonymous authors trying to explain a world they didn't understand. Except for revalations. That dude was definitely tripping on something.

From their perspective, it's the infallible word of gawd. The cube has shifted for some.
