American Idol

I don't know how many of you watch American Idol, I'm not really a big fan but my sisters like it. So anyways, last night's show's theme was "American Idol Gives Back" which was basically a 2 hour charity event. Various celebrities made cameos encouraging viewers to donate money and they would show little mini-documentaries of like Bono visiting children in Africa who are dying of AIDS and poverty stricken families and so on. To get to the point, they concluded the night's show with the all the finalists singing "Shout to the Lord". I find it very ironic that for 2 hours they talked about small children around the world dying of AIDS and starvation and now they're singing about how good the lord is. If their god is such a good guy like they make him out to be, why doesn't he get off his Almighty ass and do something about the injustices done to even the little children around the world? What a bunch of fucking tools.

For anyone who missed it: Shout to The Lord American Idols on Idol Gives Back

I wonder who chose it? They must assume that they have a mostly Christian audience or something.

It's as if Jesus and Gravity, and the hack job that was this little light of mine wasn't enough during Dolly week. :repuke: I skipped Idol gives back last night. Glad to see I can use my barf-bag and ear plugs for another show.

I have watched American Idol for about 4 years now. I participate on their forums from time to time.. there was quite a bit of riff-raff about the Dolly Parton week with two special guests singing religious songs in one night.

But I was really surprised when this happened last night. A couple of years ago, Mandisa sang a religious song and was heavily scrutinized for a couple of choice statements she made before she sang about god. She was quickly voted off after that. That is why I can't believe this happened last night.. somebody must've found god..LOL

It was some funny-mental in charge of programming turning American Idol into a quest for god. Appealing to Santa for a miracle would have been better off since kids get stuff from Santa and pestilence and suffering from god--for their own good of course. God loves them so much, he can't make them suffer enough.

I can honestly say i've never once watched American Idol (just seemed kind of boring). I guess I must be a communist.

That aside, these idiots can shout to non-existent entities all they want, but they still won't do anything 'cos they still won't exist.

The only way to watch American Idol is with Tivo or some other DVR. I watch the performances and the judges comments, and then I watch the final result the next night. I only watch it because I do enjoy singing and have a critical ear, and my fiance is always watching it.

This is the first year I watched American Idol. My wife watched it last year and is a fan of it now. It's quite fun, and the contestants this year have amazing voices, so I enjoy it... but the Dolly Parton evangelizing week bugged the hell out of me. I'm considering sending some letter or so and ask them to have a Islam theme week, and a Jewish traditional songs week, and maybe a Buddhist or Hindu week, and for each one of them end the show with some preaching about their religion. And they should put in one Atheists week too, most definitely.

Yesterday, I thought everything we very good until the end. Did the Christians have to hijack the show again? There were several atheists participating in that show! So why should the Christians and their imaginary God get the front-row for something that is a non-religious participation? The reason we give some contribution to this event, was just because it was non-religious!!! And that's something I probably have to write to them about too. I'm not giving my money to a frigging Church of Idol. I'm a bit upset over this, I just have to figure out how where I shall send my letter, and what exactly to write.

Reminds me of Live8 when we were all meant to click our fingers ever three seconds to work out when a child in Africa was dying. Illogical.

It's kinda like that old joke about going to a fight and a hockey game broke out; I keep watching a vocal contest and camp meeting keeps breaking out.

Well considering some of the dumb-twats that have become famous through Idol- Carrie (Jesus take the Wheel)- makes me think that most of their audience is the same people who voted in Bush (ie: moron-theists).

Madame, You're probably right. I was thinking back to Dolly week when on Stage after Dollys attempt to sing she made a sort of dig at Simon and Ryan. Ryan you worship Simon, I'll worship Jesus or somesuch lame jabbing. I was wondering why people seem to dig Simon (or Ryan for that instance) with being god like or lack of love for god. I dunno, Maybe my over critical mind is reading to much into things.

Does anyone know if Simon is openly hostile to religion to warrant these types of comments? I'd like him even more (if that's possible) if that's the case!

My favorite this season is David Cook by a comfortable mile. (Okay his last song stunk :fart:, but I voted for him anyway due to his enormous talent ) I'm underwhelmed by the rest really.

But its really a popularity contest at heart, and cutesy little Archelleto has the giggly tween girl crowd in his pocket. They're the ones who vote en masse the max # of times allowed.

Edited 'cause my chances of spelling Archelleto right the first time were near nil.

For some reason, I see Archie (My Nick name for him) more of a Broadway star then an AI star, Maybe it's just me? I like him enough, seems like a sweet shy kid. He has great pipes for such a young guy.

IMO, I think more of the teens like the guy with the dreadlocks and nice eyes. Sorry He's a snore-fest to me and His remakes are verbatim of someone else, not remotely different or original. Lastly he seems to always looks constipated when he sings, It bothers me.

I hope Carly or the Houston wanna be gets the boot tonight. I dislike the country bumkin wrapped in a flag Kristy lee cook to but she did well enough to stay in it for another week IMO. I'd put her near the top as far as performance goes for this week.

Carly committed sacrelig against Freddie Mercury. That song was an absolute monstrosity and disgraceful, she beyond butchered it especially near the end of the song . Her blaming Simon's face for her bad singing is also beyond the pale. she should be voted off for it. IMO
