Ahh!
This is from a screwy Christian book I found at my local library. It's disturbingly recent (2001). I've paraphrased some of the "dangers" for length. 17 Dangers of Masturbation 1. Masturbation trains you to react to specific stimuli. 2. Masturbation is addictive. 3. Addictive behaviors are difficult to change. 4. Because it is addictive, masturbation controls the person, not the other way around. 5. Your body will only react to specific stimuli 6. Masturbation causes problems in bed. 7. It is easier to say no before something becomes a habit. 8. Humans can say no. 9. Contrary to popular belief, masturbation desires continue after marriage. It is a horrible sin that never stops tempting you once you start. 10. The most common problem married men seek counseling for today is masturbation. 11. The same experts who say it isn't addictive say you can't control yourself. Which is it? 12. Saying yes to masturbation so you can say no to sex is STILL A SIN. (Capitalization was there in original version) 13. Masturbation takes the mystery out of sex. 14. Masturbation won't make you blind. But it's still wrong. 15. (Random Bible verse on purity that says nothing about sex or masturbation) 16. Saying no to masturabtion is discipline. Discipline is a sign of future greatness. 17. God forgives- but NEVER USE THAT TO JUSTIFY AN UNGODLY AND EVIL ACT! (capitalized just like that.)
Rhia
1 & 5 are the same shit just worded differently. Whomever wrote this was a dumbass - and not just about 1 & 5 - all of it is total bullshit. Then again, I like a lot of "UNGODLY AND EVIL ACTS"!
Evolution_beyond
Thanks Aah! for posting this. It never ceases to be illuminating just how backwards and prudish fundies can be. Here are my responses to it 1. Masturbation trains you to react to specific stimuli. specific stimuli such as normal healthy sexual desires 2. Masturbation is addictive. So is eating 3. Addictive behaviors are difficult to change. No shit. That's what addiction means. 4. Because it is addictive, masturbation controls the person, not the other way around. ... 5. Your body will only react to specific stimuli There might be some truth in this. But it is an untestable hypothesis because I can't compare myself with the version of myself that never masturbated. Evolution_beyond
6. Masturbation causes problems in bed. So does prudery and judgement of others' sexual tastes and behaviours. 7. It is easier to say no before something becomes a habit. Not in this case 8. Humans can say no. There are some things that humans find it near impossible to say no to. 9. Contrary to popular belief, masturbation desires continue after marriage. It is a horrible sin that never stops tempting you once you start. This is true. (apart from the sin part of course) 10. The most common problem married men seek counseling for today is masturbation. Really??? Somehow I doubt it.
Evolution_beyond
11. The same experts who say it isn't addictive say you can't control yourself. which is it? A healthy appetite 12. Saying yes to masturbation so you can say no to sex is STILL A SIN. All depends how you define sin - and who gets to decide what is sin and what isn't. Since the bible doesn't actually mention masturbation at all. I'd say you're walking on thin ice here. 13. Masturbation takes the mystery out of sex. Bollocks! 14. Masturbation won't make you blind. But it's still wrong. idiotic. 15. (Random Bible verse on purity that says nothing about sex or masturbation) 16. Saying no to masturabtion is discipline. Discipline is a sign of future greatness. Many people who are very strong on discipline go on to do dreadful deeds without questioning their superiors. So discipline itself is no guarantee of future greatness. 17. God forgives- but NEVER USE THAT TO JUSTIFY AN UNGODLY AND EVIL ACT! (capitalized just like that.) Yes christians, please stop doing that. Human nature is flawed and sinful - but NEVER USE THAT TO JUSTIFY THE INTOLERANT ATTITUDE OF THE CHURCH IN AGES PAST!
I Broke Free
I have always considered masturbation just another part of my sexuality, not a substitute or something that interferes with the desire to have sex with my partner. Sometimes I just want to masturbate and sometimes I prefer sex. On a side note: Fundies love to claim that porn is destroying marriages and relationships, yet since the advent of internet porn, both rape and divorce are significantly lower than they were before access became so easy. Taphophilia
In the above dangers, you can replace "masturbation" with "picking your nose" or "scratching your ass" and it will still make as much sense.
Ahh!
In the above dangers, you can replace "masturbation" with "picking your nose" or "scratching your ass" and it will still make as much sense. For picking your nose, it would actually make more sense, especially for the "in bed" one.
Onyx
These people who decry masturbation, they would've beat up little girls picking daisies if they were determinated enough. Oh, yes, the puritans have never disappeared, they just take different forms. Repeat after me, MASTURBATION IS FUN SO IS FUN!
Realist
In the above dangers, you can replace "masturbation" with "picking your nose" or "scratching your ass" and it will still make as much sense. ..... how about replacing "masturbation" with the word "christianity" and many of the statements will make FAR more sense! MonolithTMA
It would be funny if someone were to read that list in a sexy voice. I have a few books with similar leanings. Very unhealthy stuff. Now excuse me while I go... ...you thought I was going to say masturbate! Nahh, I'm just going to get some breakfast.
jdog
This is so fucked up. I use to go to a xtian website where there were many threads on this subject. So many souls tormented by this 'sinful' act they performed asking for advice or help on how to stop. The guilt is rediculous. There were some good discussions on this topic. There were some less fundamentals who basically said that masturbating wasn't wrong, depending on what was going on in one's mind while performing the act. that was my stance on the topic at the time. So basically the thinking was if you can do 'it' without lusting after someone, or fantasising some kinky shit, then all is good. Yeh right! NOt happening. Vigile
Whomever wrote this was a dumbass Whoever wrote this is a chronic masturbator who spends every night on his knees re repenting and begging god to take this temptation away. He's probably even had dark thoughts about cutting off the member that offends (if your eye offends, pluck it out).
Brought None
Can someone read the list aloud to me, I'm having trouble seeing it and it's rather difficult to type this post with my hairy palms.

I Broke Free
So basically the thinking was if you can do 'it' without lusting after someone, or fantasising some kinky shit, then all is good. Is that even possible? Preferences #1 Video #2 Photo #3 Imagination They all work just fine, but it ain’t gonna happen without fantasizing about someone! And it is never my partner either. godlessgrrl
Actually the biggest danger is that people who masturbate (men and women both) might actually find out more about their own sexuality. They might find out what their bodies enjoy. They might find out what kinds of things turn them on. If they're female, they might actually discover their own clitoris... they might even become orgasmic! They might even have orgasms without benefit of heterosexual, penis-in-vagina intercourse! GASP!!! If people masturbate, they'll actually expand their sexual repertoire... they'll have an outlet when they don't have a partner, or when their current partner isn't available... they'll become more sexually responsive... they'll even ENJOY it!! And worst of all: they might not feel guilty or ashamed about it! Well we can't have that, now, can we.
upstarter
Tell us the name of the book! Was it "Every Young Man's Battle"? Hilarious list!!! There's a book called "Every Young Man's Battle"??? OMFG! MonolithTMA
Tell us the name of the book! Was it "Every Young Man's Battle"? Hilarious list!!! One of the books I have is called Every Man's Battle. It was an odd mixture of trying to respect women, but then also making wives responsible for their husband's wandering eyes if they weren't putting out enough. Even when i was a Christian I wasn't too thrilled with the book, but I read it because a married friend of mine really did have a serious porn problem and I wanted to help him if I could. I don't remember that list being in it, and I just flipped through it and didn't see it.
