bluewizard
I went to the park and said Hello to the preacher at the church I formerly went to 10 months ago. Then I was preached at and told I'm going to Hell and I ended up telling him I didn't believe in God or Christianity. First he asked me where I'd be in 100 years and I told him in the ground, and he started saying a lot of things about how I'l be going to Hell and a lot of questions about what if I'm wrong about Christianity. I told him there s thousands of religions and gods and fear is no reason to believe in anything. Yet he claimed he wasn't trying to scare me with fear tactics yet he told me about him having the sme conversation with someone he had with me today and they died in a car accident a couple months later. He then told me there's no such thing as an Atheist, only an Agnostic and I questiond him on that. He replied that all atheists and agnostics on their deathbeds turn to God. I told him Richard Darwin and plenty other nonbelievers never did that and if they did it was because of a strong Christian background instilled in them. He replied that I wasn't a freethinker and what I'm saying sounded like what I heard from a professor. I told him he's not letting anyone be a freethinker either apparently by telling people they're going to Hell and presenting opinions as facts with no debate. He didn't reply. He then told me it was our destiny to meet today and that God wanted him to talk to me about this and that if I didn't change my ways I was going to be punished for rejecting Christ today. He also tried to convince me to pray to God about this meeting with him and I told him there's no reason to do so if I don't believe in God, he then took off his sunglasses, looked me in the eyes and told me he thinks I'm afraid to pray to God. He then ended the meeting with a prayer by himself since I "didn't believe in prayer". It was pretty annoying. The Southern Baptist way of thinking is crazy. I'm glad I left this. Any of this ever happened to you? It was an annoying experience but I think I made it through fine.
Karhoof
The tactic that I use now is, I ask them if they think god is real. Always a "Yes!" for a reply (no surprise there). I then tell them to put the bible down. If they open it, refer to it or quote from it, the conversation is over. We're going to talk about real things. I then ask them to tell me about their god. *cheep* *cheep* *cheep*
Neon Genesis
I can't stand it when xtians claim that there's no such thing as an atheist and that they're all agnostics. It shows how ignorant they really are and that they really don't know a thing about what atheism and agnosticism are. Either that or they're manipulative liars or both. If this happens again, you can always tell them that if hell and god are real, all you need is an iron chariot because god loses to iron chariots. Judges 1:19, "So the LORD was with Judah. And they drove out the mountaineers, but they could not drive out the inhabitants of the lowland, because they had chariots of iron."
Deva
I think you did very well in your replies, Bluewizard. I don't believe I would have had the patience to even discuss it if I were in your place. It seems he likes to tell you a lot about yourself, typical of the fundametalist christians who visit this site. He comes off as a bully using scare tactics. Just speculating long after the fact, it would have been fun to say something like - "What is there to burn in hell? The "I" is just an abstracted representation of chemicals." Just to see the deer in the headlights look come over his face. It would also have been fun to pursue the "it was our destiny to meet today" statement. Ask him how far does that go. Is it destiny or "free will" or a little of both. Then, depending upon what said, you could start arguing predestination. If he's a Southern Baptist, he would have a hard time with that. Anyway, he's just a jerk. Maybe the offering plate has been a little bare lately at the church. Is there any reason, other than seeing him around town, that you would ever have to speak to him again? .god
i had that happen to me once. "why don't you just try asking god.." "just try it, what have you got to lose" I gave in to appease them, but I think in the future here will be my response "I will do it if you truly pray to Santa Claus to ask him for what you really want this year" "You've got nothing to lose" If they do it, then I will tell them, "You probably felt as stupid as I did doing that"
mwc
I went to the park and said Hello to the preacher at the church I formerly went to 10 months ago. Then I was preached at and told I'm going to Hell and I ended up telling him I didn't believe in God or Christianity. Good for you. he started saying a lot of things about how I'l be going to Hell and a lot of questions about what if I'm wrong about Christianity. Yep. You're going to hell alright... He replied that all atheists and agnostics on their deathbeds turn to God. Unless you grow old and die. Then you'll turn to "god" and go to heaven making his point moot. he then took off his sunglasses, looked me in the eyes and told me he thinks I'm afraid to pray to God. He then ended the meeting with a prayer by himself since I "didn't believe in prayer". Oooh! So then you countered his lame-ass "challenge" to you by unzipping your pants and telling him that you think that he's just afraid to suck your dick. Then you ended the meeting by rubbing one off during his prayer. It was pretty annoying. The Southern Baptist way of thinking is crazy. I'm glad I left this.Any of this ever happened to you? It was an annoying experience but I think I made it through fine. I'm glad you left it too. This guy sounds very annoying to say the least. It's clear you stood your ground against his pathetic arguments if all he could do was "pray" at you. mwc
