How Did You Pick Your Username?

Posters of teh forums,

How did you pick your username? I picked mine for many reasons:

  • I like google.com
  • My friend sounded like she was saying "Googledotman" when she got her tonsils removed
  • I put in random words when listening to music in Mario Kart

But I know a lot you have deeply personal reasons stemming from your former beliefs, and I wanted to get some insight on those beliefs.

Love,

Googledotman

I used to go to a Xn college, and even though I was "out" to some people, was afraid of being found by others. With that in mind, I took an old pen-name I used to use back in my old fan-fic days (none of it is still published, so HA!), shortened it, and signed up.

Also, I like the name Rhia.

I used to trek through cemeteries to learn history. Not too many people know what the word means unless they look it up.

Ah! Interesting thread! I can't wait to hear the stories behind the many names.

Tickle a spider's web and the spider immediately detects that signal. Send a fishing signal up the line of Spiderwire and the angler can immediately detect that signal too.

I live in the dumbest, most backward state in the union. We don't even know how to vote down here (not that it would matter).

Duh!

Mine has to do with my phoenix tattoo, which I got after leaving my ex-husband and starting my life over. I see myself as one of those birds rising from the ashes, hence the moniker.

Vendredism is the name of the "religion" I made up. Vendredi is French for Friday, which is the "sabbath" in my religion. I tacked an e on the end to make it seem more feminine. Et voila! Je m'appelle Vendredie. :)

I'm a fan of Jimmy Buffett music. When I listen to his music, I can take a little vacation in my mind to a tropical island where I can almost feel the warm sun and salt air on my skin and the breeze blowing through my hair. It's a welcome escape from the insane nutjobs all around me here in the buybull belt. Oh, did I mention the icy cold margaritas and coronas........

I'm curious how you find the environment there. My wife and I drove through that part of the country a few years ago and both of our eyes watered as we drove past the refineries outside of town. Were we just there on a bad day?

I love cats. My (most easily attainable) life goal is to become that crazy lady who lives alone with many cats. I also am recovering from mental illness.

Means "bad egg" in Chinese. Been called that by enough ladies, so it just comes to mind. My name is not Dan, BTW, It's David, but I don't mind when folks call me Dan.

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deva_(Hinduism)

Deva (देव in Devanagari script, pronounced as /'d̪ev.ə/) is the Sanskrit word for "god, deity". It can be variously interpreted as a god, spirit, demi-god, celestial being, angel, deity or any supernatural being of high excellence.

I saw someone using the name on an astrology board and I borrowed it.

Overall it is not bad. I like a dry environment so it is ok here. We only have one refinery in the area now, 40 miles away to the east, and one plastics plant. In other areas of the country there are things that don't smell too good if you are downwind like paper mills, pig farms, chicken farms, and cattle feeder operations. So from that perspective it's no different. You may have been smelling the oil wells which usually have some concentration of H2S gas. H2S smells like rotten eggs.

On the other hand, the political/religious environment sucks. We have people here that make Brother John Birch look like a commie. I pass 12 churches on my 17 mile drive from Midland to Odessa. I live only a mile from my work and pass three churches in that distance. A fish on every other suv/pick-up/hummer. I think I have seen one Darwin "fish" in the eighteen years I've lived here.

It's an Arabic word meaning, "A little lost lamb that must find it's own way".

I've used that word for more than 25 years, usually in the derogatory. ;)
