RJT
Made some good, rich coffee and sipped it while finishing the last chapter in Christopher Hitchens' "God Is Not Great" (2nd time through it). Played a bit on this site. Answered a few emails from friends responding to news about my deconversion. Went and had more coffee and a chat with some good heathen friends of mine. Raked some leaves. Emptied out my truck, cleaned it and reorganized everything (it was a MESS!!). Drove down to Easton, PA for supper with our oldest son, his wife and their wee one (lots of good talk & wine...our daughter-in-law is a rep for a classy wine distributor in NJ.) Great day! thefriendlyghost
The final nail in the coffin for me was joining the SDA, so I had Sundays off, but has to observe the Sabbath. Sundown Friday to Sundown Saturday really cuts into one's 'going out & drinking' time. Of course, we weren't even supposed to have caffeine, let alone alcohol. And for some reason, jazz music was bad, too. Hilarious.
khdetw
sleep in and have kinky sex ... sometimes we watch his old church streamed over the internet ... we're an odd couple. Hey Holly! Thanks for that imagery. There's nothing like having great sex with your ex(Christian lover) while watching the likes of Jerry Falwell. I used to work for the dude in another life so that makes even kinkier ;-)
khdetw
Seriously (too), this is a fantastic thread! Since I stopped going to church, a couple of decades ago now, I often contemplate all the things I've done that I would have missed had I wasted nearly half of my time off each week listening to stale sermons with no chance for intellectual stimulation or dialog. I often go canoeing or hiking, motorcycling or bicycling, meditate, sleep in and have sex, or - a favorite - read up (usually on the Internet) about a topic just because it interests me, not for any other reason. HRDWarrior
It sometimes makes me sick to think of all the time I wasted in church - literaly wasted since most of the time I was only going out of guilt, not because I wanted to! But tomorrow will be spent on far too much homework...I had a (successful!) doggie adoption day today (our foster found a home! Yay for Essie!) but it pretty much killed my day time wise, so tomorrow I've gotta get crackin' on my projects. Hopefully the computer will cooperate! RJT
Had some good coffee & read some in Victor Stenger's book, "The NEW Atheism." Got some fun Jack Johnson on the stereo, up loud 'cause my wife's at church But, now it's time to put on my clean jeans and head to town. I'm actually going to "church"! It's been a looooooong time since I've done that, but I want to visit my daughter at her little Unitarian church. She left Christianity some years ago, but she's still very much a "spiritual" person and a good thinker. She was hungry for a community of similar-minded folk with whom to share a bit of her life. She thinks she may have found it for now with these folk. I guess you can believe just about anything and still be a good Unitarian! So, this old atheist is gonna warm a pew again for the first time in a long time. Maybe I'll log in here afterwards and let you know how it was. Have a good Sunday! Deva
Buddhist discussion group. Fairly interesting this time, but I can't help but think anytime someone is trying to describe the process of meditation its sort of BS. I also don't get why this movie "What the bleep..." is so darn popular. I mostly thought it was straight bull. Oh well...

RJT Do report back how that goes for you. I just *joined* (eek!) a UU church, and I do attend pretty regularly on Sunday mornings. It was hardly a rebound relationship; it had been well over 10 years since I'd set foot in a church for anything but weddings and funerals. Started going with a friend a couple of years ago because she was curious and wanted company. When she moved away, I was stunned to find I missed it and started going again. It's definitely not for everyone and YMMV depending on the congregation and leadership, but after years of agnosticism I am spiritually and intellectually curious about other traditions. It took me a couple of years to really warm up to it, but it's a great place to meet highly evolved minds and I like being able to experiment with various belief systems. I've really gotten into the full moon circle and may have some leanings toward paganism. I also joined a beading group; it is nice to have people to bead with free of vomit-inducing fundie lady prattle. I'll give you a thumbs-up in the "give it a try" category. BTW love me some Jack Johnson

HRDWarrior
I'll do some more homework today - was thinking about going out and riding my horse, but I'll see how time goes - I'll be out there tomorrow either way for work, so he may just get lucky and get another day off (my motivation for leaving my house is dropping significantly the longer I'm awake)! Of course I'm wishing I was still in bed asleep - but the dogs decided they needed out, and the new foster was being a problem trying to start fights, so that didn't work too well, and now I'm up. Blech, guess I'll have to take a nap again later....just not the same though!
noob
I spent the weekend preparing for a surprise birthday party for my neighbor, Rose, who is turning 80 on Tuesday. After staying up until almost midnight making carrot cakes, I got up early this morning and prepared the sloppy joes, baked beans, salsa, and gooey butter cake and THEN went to breakfast to have usual Sunday morning breakfast with my dearest friends. After breakfast I continued to cook and clean until the party started at 4:00. The party was a lot of fun and Rose was very appreciative!!! I have partially cleaned up the mess but I am so exhausted and achy I can barely move at this point. I’ve taken Aleve, I am sitting with a heating pad on my back, and as soon as the Sunday evening Simplex net (a ham radio activity) is over, I am going to bed!!! I cannot remember the last time I was this beat!!!

Guest Babylonian Dream
Seeing that Sunday was the day I went to church, and Thursday was also, replacing it I am probably just watching tv, possibly looking at porn or doing something "sinful", or at times nothing at all. All I can say for certain (as every week its different), its a hell of a lot funner than sitting in a building worshipping a zombie.

♦ Fuego ♦
Tried three "butterbeer" recipes, and found one that was actually good. (Made a treacle tart yesterday. Had to go to an import store to get "Lyle's Golden Syrup". Good stuff!) Made mac 'n cheese with smokey cheddar. Lastly I made kalua pork and made a Cubano sandwich, but then added jalapenos because I like the spice.
Apostate Nate
I watched as much of Titans/Colts and Saints/Redskins today as I could. Both of my teams lost. On another note, I just finished at my school's library. Now I feel like I'm ready for finals.
