Skeptic
I've been using pay phones more frequently (my phone doesn't work) and I've noticed that people put xian tracts on them. It's like the person who's putting the tract there is saying, "So, you're poor enough to have to use a pay phone? Well, then why not turn your life over to god?" It's unbelievably disgusting. I take the tracts and rip them up. Usually, I throw them away, but the next time I see that, I'm going to rip the tract up and either throw the shreds on the ground or put the shreds back where I found the tract. I just had to rant about that. It really bothers the hell out of me to see that.

Skeptic
I've seen a Watchtower magazine in a portapotty before I would've flushed it down the toilet. That's where shit like that belongs.
Dhampir
If it's the size of a chick tract, I'd take it home, remove the staple, and replace the contents with the Cthulhu tract, then return it to where I got it.

Or any of the parody tracts too.
Tabula Rasa
Skeptic, I suggest that when you find them, save them for when you run out of toilet paper. Especially the Chick tracts. That way you can wipe yourself with the pics of Yahweh on the throne. Depart from me ye accursed into the sewer which is prepared for santimonious religious bullshit! Brought None
Suggestion... Next time you find one, tape a condom to the track cover and write "Don't wind up like Mary, use protection." on it.

Guest Davka
Just as an FYI - I used to leave those tracts. I never thought "poor people use payphones," it didn't even cross my mind. It just struck me as a good public place to leave a tract, where doubtless God would lead someone who needed to read it to decide to make a phone call. Of course, I never left Chick tracts. Couldn't stand them. I liked the groovy hippie tracts better.
Skeptic
I never thought "poor people use payphones," it didn't even cross my mind. It just struck me as a good public place to leave a tract, where doubtless God would lead someone who needed to read it to decide to make a phone call. The thought occurred to me because most people nowadays have cell phones and, therefore, don't need to use a pay phone. People without much money, especially if they don't have job and/or are homeless, are less likely to have cell phones and need to use a pay phone. I got this thought that the people putting tracts on pay phones were preying on people who are in desperate situations like that. I'm glad to hear that you didn't have that thought, though, when you were still a xian. That makes me feel a bit better.
