Legion
I wanted to recap this thread with some of the sayings we have gathered here. Abandon learning and there will be no sorrow. A ship in the harbor is safe. The mind of the wise is in the house of mourning. Are you willing to suffer to learn?
qec
There was a note on Faust's ticket to Hell, and the note read: "Abandon all Hope, Ye who Enter".
Shyone
There was a note on Faust's ticket to Hell, and the note read: "Abandon all Hope, Ye who Enter". I may be reading you too literally, but wasn't that passage written over the gate at the entrance to hell? Before me things create were none, save things Eternal, and eternal I endure. All hope abandon ye who enter here. Such characters in colour dim I mark'd Over a portal's lofty arch inscrib'd: Whereat I thus: Master, these words import. par4dcourse
Abandon learning and there will be no sorrow. I always took that saying to refer to a childs joy in innocence and sorrow when he/she learns about the-for lack of a better term-cruel world. As was mentioned, it's a bit vague. Good post, Legion.
