Cousin Ricky
(Apologies to Mel Tormé and Bob Wells) Jephthah’s daughter on an open fire [Judges 11:29-40] Sweet smell pleases Yahweh’s nose. [Leviticus 3:5] Victory carols being sung by a choir [Exodus 15:1-21] Dead Egyptians decay on Reed Sea shore. [Exodus 14:30] Everybody knows the tithing of their hard-earned dough [Numbers 18:21] Keeps the Levites’ futures bright. [Nehemiah 13:13] Tiny tot with his eyes filled with terror Will find it hard to sleep tonight. He knows that dad might slit his throat [Genesis 22:9-10] The way he cut his fav’rite toy at eight days old. [Genesis 21:4] And every mother’s child is gonna cry Afraid that he might burn in HELL should he die. [Matthew 25:41] And so, I’m offering selected phrase To celebrate the Messiah du jour. [Mark 13:6] Although it’s been said for many gods, many ways Saturnalia! Sol Invictus! Merry Christmas to you! © 2005, 2009 Richard Callwood III.
