Prejudice Gone Crazy

So the latest development in the saga of Constance McMillen, the lesbian who wanted to take her girlfriend to the prom is that she was tricked into going to an event that was not the "real prom" while while another event was held elsewhere for the other students. We all know these little towns are religious strongholds...this is prejudice and pharaseeism taken to the max:

I don't recall where the Bible had a problem with lesbians. Gay men needed to be killed, but I thought lesbians got a pass. After all, it was a man's world back in that barbaric time and place (and we still like lesbians!). But I've forgotten more Bible lore than many practicing Christians ever knew, so I could be wrong.

And apologies to James Brown.

It makes me sick to my stomach that a group of people could do something like that to a child. I guess I'm ignorant, naive or something. They should be ashamed. And the worst part is they probably never will be.

A total outrage.

I do not wish well upon any person, student or parent or teacher, who conspired to set this up.

Once more, ladies and gentlemen: "Burn the witch".

I sometimes think that "hell" will be populated by the most self-righteous and the most pious; oh, wait....that's supposed to be heaven ????

I'm really disappointed in the students who went along with this. It's one thing for the parents to be bigots, but the students really should show more support for their classmate.

When one is indoctrinated by the evil of Jesus, it's only natural to do evil.

Agreed. This IS the Bible Belt we're talking about. Community makes damn sure your ostracized out of the area if you fall under the "abomination" label touted in their holy book.

The bible does condemn lesbianism in this little rant about homosexuality:

Romans 1

[26] For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:

[27] And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.

What assholes! It's not like she was asking others to have gay/lesbian partners, so what the hell was their big deal?

Thank goodness some of us are no longer blinded by such religious nonsense....

The students who went to the exclusionary prom formed a facebook account:

Constance quit yer cryin

I say turn lemons to lemonaid... Post support for Constance on their bigoted page.

The crap Ms. McMillen has had to deal with has just motivated me to scrape up a small but well-meaning bit of change and give it to Lambda Legal.

My next step is to send a message to the aforementioned FB group thanking them for the motivation.

I'm such a bitch. :wicked:

I joined the "Constance Quit Yer Cryin'" group and posted messages of support, plus a lengthy diatribe outlining my contempt for bigotry. I also asked friends on Faecesbook to do the same. Oh well, suppose I'm 'outed' now as a supporter of gay rights. By the time I got to the page, the messages did seem predominantly supportive in nature.
