The unborn have no memories and have no understanding of death. I don't think most people are "proud" of having abortions, but that may mainly be because people harass them so much. I'm pro-choice. And I'm not an awful, unfeeling, murderous person. Pictures and movies about the Holocaust make me cry no matter how many I've seen! But those were people who could feel pain and who could feel afraid and sad.

Where was this last rant? Was it about abortion or many things?

One thing she needs to realize is that it's not ONLY atheists complaining about Christians, non-atheists contribute just as much of the rants against Christianity. And many non-atheists get drunk, have sex, and abortions (including Christians). So her points are all completely unsupported. (Even End3 and Yoyo have expressed irritation with other Christians and complained... or look at ConfusedIdiot who can't let go of his belief, yet he feel contempt against Christianity. Why does he complain? Should he be allowed to complain, but not the "atheists"?)

 

We could turn around her argument and ask: why does ALL non-atheists keep on complaining about atheists ALL the time? Why can't you ALL non-atheists stop arguing against atheism, and can't you ALL non-atheists be a little nicer to us atheists? (Same kind of generalization.)

 

I have little tolerance to people who complain about other people's complaints (including my own complaints about people doing it ).

 

There is one very important lesson to learn from being on this website: don't group people into one category. (Sometimes I make the same mistake, and it's just as wrong.) Everyone is different, and to put "All" of some people into one group and assume they're all the same is just plainly wrong. (And I love to do that with Christians... but it's still wrong. )

Your values are garnered from your culture and experience. If you walked in the shoes of different people, you'd probably have different opinions. I encourage you to do so, and try to see behaviors from the perspective of the actor, and not the observer.

If you've been banned from multiple places, have you ever considered that the problem might be with you? I know that sometimes you can come up against repeated back luck where people are unfriendly, but when the same thing is happening to you repeatedly, it's arrogant not to consider that you might be acting in a way that makes interaction with you difficult.

 

You've already been so rude about abortion that it seems to most of us here that you have no interest in trying to understand anyone else's viewpoint, only in reprimanding others about not accepting your beliefs on the subject. By now I think that you're just looking for validation in labeling us as immoral.

 

As others have said, when you first came here, you complained about Christianity and how it hurt you. We shared that we'd had similar experiences - not necessarily because we were still bitter about the past, but to let you know that you weren't alone in your experiences and that we had some understanding of what you'd gone through. Many new deconverts have been so isolated in the church environment that they barely know anyone in real life who they can turn to as a community. When I deconverted, 90% of my friends were Christians, as were my parents. I didn't know how to come out to my family in a way that would minimize the hurtfulness (a very common subject here). I didn't know where to find a new community after losing the social structure of the church. I've mostly done those things, although I'm still dealing with some things with my family, but I want to be able to stay here and offer support to new deconverts who may be in the same uncertain place as I was a few years ago.

You know what scares ME? The fact you consider a helpless newborn human being as a consequence and a punishment. That you really don't give a damn whether someone would make a good parent or not. That you really care so very little for the sanctity of motherhood and family that you flippantly dismiss the critical insight when someone KNOWS when they aren't ready or able to take on the UTTERLY AWESOME responsibility it is to care for and apprentice another human being to life.

 

Now THAT is some seriously fucked up shit.

 

Most abortions happen in the first trimester when the fetus has no consciousness, no sentience, no sense of pain, and no sense of alive or dead. We all start out as pretty much the Play-Dough of the universe, as TWO. CELLS. Two mindless little cells that replicate continuously until we become a bundle of rudimentary autonomous systems. It's not till well into the second trimester that awareness sets in.

 

When something has no awareness and can't even feel pain, then it's not even an ethical issue.
