Djewleu Posted November 11, 2010 Author Posted November 11, 2010 [Re-posting it; don't know what happened!] Religion does offend me much. Religion DIVIDES people; kills friendship; destroys family harmony; blocks intellectual development! CHEATS CHILDREN. Promotes parasitic living. Those are some of the vicious evils of religion.
☆ TexasFreethinker ☆ Posted November 11, 2010 Posted November 11, 2010 Welcome to the site Djewleu. There is much about various religions that does offend me, including treatment of women and homosexuals and rejection of intelligence and reason. Religious people can be even more offensive than their religions, especially when they try to force others to follow their religious beliefs, or harm others in the name of their god.
Djewleu Posted November 11, 2010 Author Posted November 11, 2010 True. The very worst example of religious offence is not the cheating of children by adults - in the name of anthropomorphic idols [gods]. The worst is religious insolence demanding that you shut down your most precious faculty of reason to use that of the religious leader: popes, gurus, christs, prophets, nuns, cardinals, and other dangerous agents! [Religion survives on cash: stop it!]
Guest Babylonian Dream Posted November 11, 2010 Posted November 11, 2010 It offends me for the above reasons, and because it claims that not only such a system is good, but that we humans are bad and incomparably bad compared to it and its piece of crap system
SoulofSilver Posted November 11, 2010 Posted November 11, 2010 Religions are only as good as the worst religious person that is a part of them.
Djewleu Posted November 12, 2010 Author Posted November 12, 2010 I always wanted to live in a tow where there were more bakeries than churches. Sadly, here in Johannesburg, there are more churches than bakeries in any given suburb! It is a dangerous plague, I tell you!
Djewleu Posted November 12, 2010 Author Posted November 12, 2010 [Apologies for having to repeat this post: I need to edit a word, but I see no edit button anywhere. Town, not tow, idiot!] I always wanted to live in a town where there were more bakeries than churches. Sadly, here in Johannesburg, there are more churches than bakeries in any given suburb! It is a dangerous plague, I tell you!
Phanta Posted November 12, 2010 Posted November 12, 2010 Religion doesn't offend me. Fundamentalism as any kind makes me nervous when it grows to the point of people putting their beliefs on my through laws and such. Also, extreme emotional manipulation is pretty offensive to me. Since gobs and gobs of religious groups don't do those things, I'm not upset about them. Phanta
Guest Babylonian Dream Posted November 12, 2010 Posted November 12, 2010 Religions are only as good as the worst religious person that is a part of them. Argueably, the worst persons in the 3 abrahamic religions, are actually saints compared to if their book and god was for real. Adolf Hitler would even be a saint compared to the Yahu.
par4dcourse Posted November 12, 2010 Posted November 12, 2010 There but for the grace of (insert whatever kick-started your deconversion here) go us. Most of us were one of the fold at some point. Baa !
OpheliaGinger Posted November 19, 2010 Posted November 19, 2010 Religion doesn't offend me as much as it irks me. Religions, themselves, can be quite interesting in their mythology and doctrines, but when people take them too seriously, that is when religion becomes a virus.
cw89 Posted February 14, 2011 Posted February 14, 2011 Religion disgusts me to no end. However, The followers are the one that offend me. The ones that think they can step on my rights, because they have a "divine right". As i say to followers it is not the parts of the bible that i don't understand that scare me. It's the parts that i do. They scare and disgust me. I feel bad for the followers of Christianity, because they are blindly following the teachings listed above.
