I am adrift on an ocean of resignation

Knowing that wherever I throw down my anchor

There will be more takers

I always thought people were good inside

Kind like me

But they aren’t.

It doesn’t cost that much to really see others

To take the time to search the soul

To care, to feel, to love

I have learned in my fifty years

That love is too heavy a price to pay

For the takers
