Top Ten Worst Things I've Seen Christians Do

Recommended Posts

1. Allow sexual abuse to go unreported in church. Believed it should 'stay in the fold' and not be handled by authorities. Did nothing for the victims except try to get them not to talk (not a Catholic church)

2. Terrorized a mentally handicapped person trying to cast a demon out of them.

3. 'Backslid' by going to a strip club, then tried to kill someone on the drive home (literally)

4. Told a teenager in the youth group he was healed and didn't need his meds anymore, then the teen committed suicide.

5. Told another teen that homosexuals go to hell, teen commits suicide.

6. Rejected a very depressed man looking for counseling because he faith wasn't up to part, committed suicide.

7. Girl's Christians family tried to physically attack me for dating their daughter because I wasn't a Christian.

8. Denied an education to their son, didn't even homeschool.

9. Asked me for a copy of my high school diploma for a job, asked if he could put his name on it.

10. Treated countless people like they actually cared about them, then once they got them to say the prayer ignored them.

That's just the big ones I can think of off the top of my head.

Wow. I've seen plenty of #10 and I've seen something along the lines of #1.

The worst thing I've seen was a friend of mine who basically had to run away from home in order to start taking anti-depressants to stop their constant suicidal thoughts. The Christian who helped them got blacklisted and the cops called on him for "kidnapping". Their family doesn't believe in depression or taking meds. Luckily for them, they survived. Countless others in a similar situation probably didn't,

#1... the pastor of the church i grew up in had direct evidence that the principal of the xtian school they were running was having physical relationships with the students. not only did he call the girl who brought this to his attention a "jezebel" and a "temptress" but he bounced her from the school after asking her to APOLOGIZE for her sin.

Years later the guy's own kids came forward to state that they had been abused and STILL the pastor refused to go to the authorities. handling these sorts of things "in the flock" seems to be the sure way to keep from losing control of their little kingdom, doesn't it?

That's a pretty good list...I've seen some pretty good stuff so far in my life.

#1 - Pastor fired his long time music director due to lack of church giving...Keep in mind this pastor is driving a Dodge Ram Big Horn Edition (to pull his brand new camping trailer). Wife of music director ends up calling my family asking for any work leads so they can afford food for their kids. Church is never given a reason for the firing, so it is generally assumed by the church population that he did something bad like sexual abuse or something.

#2 - (Church #2) Long term Assistant Pastor is promoted, old people hate him, organize a coup and run him out of the church all while almost ruining his family, marriage and professional life.

#3 - Elementary school teacher informs us (at the age of 7) that the Apocalypse is near because it was 2,000 years before Christ, and 2,000 years after Christ means he will return.

#4 - Pastor gives marriage counseling to struggling wife. His son is her husband mind you. He encourages her to divorce his son, because no one in the family or church really likes her. She is then promptly ostracized and ends up moving across the country to get away from the rumors.

#5 - Youth pastor begins a series of affairs in the church with wives and young girls in his youth group. He is found out, nothing happens. Everything gets swept under the rug, the youth pastor moves to another state with a sparkling reputation, probably to start the whole thing all over again.

Not as extreme as your examples, but I'd bet every single church has or has had something like this happen. Literally, every single church I ever went to had some sex scandal, money scheme, or some manner of corruption in it...

That's exactly what I experienced, yet I was made to feel guilty for leaving Christianity. As I was deconverting they told me, "don't throw the baby out with the bathwater", "you're too angry", "you're just as bad because you're angry". "you're just bitter", "the REAL Jesus isn't like that", "just focus on Jesus". "you're following satan", etc. I've been called many names by Christians while I was deconverting and I cherish them all. My favorite is "Servant of Satan". I completely support satan (even though he's not real) and hope his evil plan to get people to realize Christianity is worthless trash continues to spread.

Read on this very forum the accounts of how some Christian family members treat those who learn the truth about Christianity and leave the religion. It's terrible how our fellow members have been and are being treated by these Christians. There are accounts of abuse, divorces, parents disowning their own children, and generally making their lives miserable. I find such abuse unforgivable.

1. Live a lie

2. New minister and family runs church into the ground through exhorbitant mission budget and bogus real estate deal for new church. This guy even instituted a drive for all members to put a minimum of $50 in the offering every week by asking them to sign a personal contract. Last I heard the congregation is 1/10th of the original size and they meet in a leased theater.

When I was attending the church youth group as a teen, the youth pastor met a woman on the internet, and flew to Texas (from NH) to marry her after "knowing" her for only a few days. A few years later he had an affair with the pastor's daughter-in-law.

My dad has been part of his church since the very first service was held - some 15 years ago. He attended every single service, Sundays, Wednesday bible studies, etc... He was head usher, and always attended special functions, church cleanings, spring clean-ups, even helped build an addition, etc. About a year ago my dad was diagnosed with Hepatitis C (from using needle drugs as a teenager). He went to the pastor for counseling and prayer. They didn't quite agree on one word in the scripture, and because my dad wouldn't waver in what he felt it meant, the pastor called my dad "pig-headed" (among other names) in front of the entire congregation. My dad has not been to church since. And he's still sick because his god hasn't healed him yet.

I'm so sorry to hear that. I hope your dad gets better. I also hope he doesn't rely too much on faith and gets good medical attention.

I had a single xtian roomy who decided his mission in life was to teach men how to treat women. He got married and shortly afterward just about choked his wife to death.

A pastor had sexual relations with at least 3 different women that he was counseling. He went on trial for it and got off. MN state law was changed because of this case. Of course it was the fault of the women - they wore their pants too tight.

Another roomy would watch robert tilton and take notes.

A youth pastor was canned with no reason given.

The guy that led me to the lard would sit in school and rag on people for partying, living in sin, going to the bar....etc....... He knocked up his girlfriend.

I saw a xtian counselor, he broke confidentiality and talked about me to others. I got this straight from the person he told.

A xtian girlfriend thught she was pregnant. could not have been mine.

Josh, i think you went to my school. we used to have "rapture drills" where one of the kids would play his trumpet over the PA and we'd all run outside and stare up at the sky and wait for jesus.

Thank you - he did get medical treatment but it didn't work. So now he's waiting for god to heal him, or to get sick enough to get a liver transplant... we shall see.

That's too bad.

Have ever asked your dad why his god cures microscopic diseases but doesn't regenerate limbs for amputee's. I'm not being a smart ass, I've just never personally known someone who believes in faith healing to be able to ask them.

I'll say its the screaming thugs I see when I escort at abortion clinics. The losers are screaming at women who walk into the clinics, not even giving a damn about why they might be there - pap smears, picking up birth control, having a termination of a wanted pregnancy due to fetal deformities or having been raped. Do they really give a damn about life? I honestly don't think so. I heard a story from another escort about a woman in a wheelchair who came in for an abortion because her spine had been injured in a car accident (hence why she was in a wheelchair) and her doctors told her she would survive the pregnancy. The protestors just told her to get a second opinion. Fuckers!

A real life example for you guys. Here is a father confronting the protestors who yelled at his wife, who was having an abortion due to a fatal fetal condition:

I've seen similar confrontations where the husband/boyfriend comes out and argues back. It sucks that they have to go through that.

I haven't asked him that, but I'm sure he would give me some bs answer about them not having enough faith, or that the person already has their healing, but it hasn't been manifested yet - it's stuck in the spiritual realm, because the person has unbelief, or unforgiveness - which is the stupidest thing I've ever heard of.

I did ask him what he would do if he got to the point of no return and his god hadn't healed him yet. He didn't really want to answer the question, because that would insinuate a lack of faith. ugh.gif

They try to turn it back on him as if he doesn't have a reason to be angry. "You're an angry father". Heartless morons.

This is definitely number one on the list of worst things Christians have ever done. It is deplorable, despicable, and disgusting - at best.

As a christian, I never agreed with abortion under any circumstances. I thought that anyone who was pro-choice was disgusting. Not that I'm using my brain - I don't think this way any longer for some of the exact reasons as you have mentioned.

Being pro-choice doesn't mean that you like to kill babies, it means the government should not take away your right to decide what to do with your own body.

1. One of my best friends was kicked out of church. She and I had a lesbian love affair (we were youth at the time) and we were found out and they decided to "help" me but get rid of her. She had too many emotional problems and they were tired of dealing with her.

2. As a young adult, I had done some "sinning" (see #1) and after almost a year of repentance, I signed up to HELLP

in a sunday school class, and I was told I couldn't help because that would be like, "Shooting themselves in the foot".

3. At one church, we brought a new volunteer into a children's program and we got reprimanded by the pastor because appranately she had expermented with women as a teen.

4. I've watched a congregation run off a youth pastor and pastor just because.

5. I've watched a senior pastor spread lies about his staff until they quit.

6. I had a prophetess start a smear campain on her best friend after SHE tried to KISS her and her friend did not recipocrate.

7. I watched a senior pastor alienate and fire everyone on his staff (for no reason) and then systematically replace them with croonies and family members. He was "Spin" MASTER.

8. My old youth pastor became a senior pastor and was finally fired for having multiple affairs.

Well that's all I can think of right now.

1. Youth minister started a relationship with one of his charges, eventually married her and let everyone in my youth group know he felt she was an annoying shrew. He then proceeded to put the moves on several young girls in my youth group.

2. My now husband, then boyfriend of 4 years at the time were told we were unfit to be chaperones for children because we had been dating too long without getting married (I was 18 at the time) and so it was ok to assume we were living in sin, having premarital sex. Thanks for calling me a slut, buttwipes.

3. I brought one of my friends to church who happens to be African American and one of the older members of the church stopped him as we walked in the door and told him there was "a perfectly nice black church down the street."

4. Witnessed a mother asking for food and diapers turned away by the church leaders/congregation because there was no benefit to the church in helping her.

5. Was told to discontinue a youth outreach program because it invited "undesirable, non-convertable prospects" to the church. Was instructed to focus outreach to youth already attending other churches or from socially prominent families.

6. Was essentially "ex-communicated" from my church after the large sum of money I donated to the church was stolen and used for personal items by the new, douchebag youth minister and I dared to write a letter to him and the new pastor requesting itemization for how the money was spent. I was told by this new leadership I was "never a member of this church" that I had attended since I was 13 years old, ran a very successful youth program, donated every spare second I had to, and met my husband in.

7. Watched as friends of mine (interracial couple) were expelled from their christian school for having and "immoral relationship"

8. Had some idiotic woman with the "power of prophesy" prophesy over me at a revival (in the early stage of my deconversion) and instead of identifying my crisis of faith, she went on and on about how I needed to get out of my abusive relationship and be married to jezus. I wasn't even married and my boyfriend (now husband) had never ONCE been even remotely abusive. In fact, our relationship has always been one of the best I've ever seen.

9. A visiting pastor (asshole) who came to our church, performed an altar call and I (being in the throes of deconversion) came down to the altar to pray for restoration of my faith. The pastor had us all stand and did the whole "forehead touch" upon which we were all supposed to fall down and twitch. He touched me and I did not fall, so he did it again and I opened my eyes and quietly told him I wasn't going to fall. He glared at me and said "shut up and fall" then hit me hard in the head. I didn't fall but it took all I had not to attack him physically due to the rage I felt. This was nearly my last straw with christianity.

10. I attended a church when I was 12 years old and found out one of the girls spread rumors about me saying I did cocaine, had sex on the "in remembrance of me" table, and smoked in the chapel. Knowing how evil other 12 year old girls are, I wasn't too irritated until I found out she had told her mother and the MOTHER spread the rumors to her adult friends. That grownups could say these things about a girl who still played with My Little Pony blew my mind.

Sorry, these were all personal grievences.

1) Parents jailed becuase they let their infant die because they refused to get a peniciliian shot.

2) Father took a job in another state. Mom, me and sis stayed so I could finishe high shcool. Father had an affair with member of the new church.

3) Affair breaks in the church, up standing members call my father at his apartment and leave harassing messages stating he was no longer welcome.

4) Pastor grandfather molested my mother, my sister and possibile my aunt. Strong indications he had an affair with church member in the past. He was a Methodist pastor.

5) Sister dates her now husband while she was in youth group. She was 17 or 18 at the time. He ran the group but was not a paid position. After dating for 4 years they married. One year later he informs her that he had three seperate affairs while they were dating and living together. One was from the church, one from work, and one was an outside friend. Obviously they worked through that as their two kids will attest.

6) Family passively ostracized me for years because they THOUGHT I had done something inappropriate with my cousin. I never did.

sorry mostly personal, but its my experience.

No worries.

I'm really tired of these people molesting kids and getting away with it. People don't realize it happens in more churches than they think. Probably 99% of the time it never gets out. These people deserve to be in jail and also the ones who knew and didn't go to the police. I don't care if it happens 20 years ago, they still need to be locked up.
