MultifariousBirdLady Posted January 2, 2011 Share Posted January 2, 2011 Why did you once 'serve' God? I felt grateful for being "saved" through Jesus' sacrifice. I had been taught that I deserved hell and owed everything* to God for his "free gift" of forgiveness. I believed it was "the right thing to do" to worship the God who made everything and was the most powerful being in the universe. I was scared of hell. Even when I didn't feel particularly grateful (see #1) the fear -- or guilt over not remaining appropriately grateful -- would keep me involved. * I believed I was worthless and wholly dependent on God's charity for any "goodness" in me.
