Not_Scarevangelist
Well, I actually find myself desiring to pray.. but I'm supressing this feeling what about you? do you have this desire to pray and do you pray ?
LivingLife
Nope If you need to pray, talk to yourself, at least you know you are real. Why not start a dear god blog, if he exists he should respond. If god were real, I'd ask him for... New thread.
opiate465
yes i definitly relate. When I was christian i prayed compulsively so any time im panicked i find myself automatically doing it. I used to pray as a way to comfort myself. It seems strange to me in retrospect. I mean i would say the lords pray and do the sign of the cross to myself several times in a row. Not praying has caused me to actually deal with my problems instead of "praying them away" . Praying was a mode of suppression for me. I think one bad thing about prayer is that it sort of teaches you that you cant do anything on your own and that you are weak. When i prayed i said a lot of things like "I am nothing lord please help me i need you". i think this was actually unhealthy in the long run. Stopping prayer has made a drastic change in my thoughts. Overall its a good thing becuase i feel really empowered, but again it does cause me some anxiety because i used to be so dependent on it. much like a junkie who misses their heroine. OnceConvinced
For a number of years, yes. It was a habit I'd gotten into just talking to God during the day and thinking "Oh lord this" and "OH lord that." I had to get out of the habit, but habits are hard to break, aren't they? It helped by exchanging another name with "Lord" or "God" or "Jesus." The only time I find myself praying now (and still out of habit) is when something is really bothering me. But then I have to remind myself that prayer is futile and that I don't even believe in the God I'm praying too, so what's the point?
Mike D
I don't pray. When I am upset I just go have a piece of chocolate or a pint of Ben & Jerry's ice cream. It has the same effect as praying
