Christo friend linked this absurd story on Facebook today.  So disgusting.  Not to mention absolute horseshit.  What is it with Christians and their death fetish??

I remember young women in church who talked about how they felt they would not live to see old age.  Usually it was because they were certain that Jesus would return before they would reach old age, not because they expected to suddenly die.  As far as I know, all of those ladies are still quite alive right now.

But if enough Christians express their "knowledge" that they will die young, inevitably some of them will be right.

I entirely agree with your assessment insofar as the law of large numbers goes.

Personally though I think this entire story is bullshit from start to finish.

I wonder what the odds are that they'll find she had a slow growing brain tumor, which could have caused the personality change that resulted in her becoming a Christian.

*Shudder* that's pretty dark.

I must say though that the lack of specificity about the death itself causes me to doubt the story.  Also the idea that she predicted her death is also described pretty vaguely.  Seems concordant with someone who has trouble actually lying - which I tend to think the author is doing.

posted by my sister from the page of some clown Brian Simmons.  I'm wondering if he spent more than eight minutes writing this shit:

"Today, I heard His whisper...

"Your praise ignites a fire. Through your praises I will enter into your difficulties and turn them around. As you lift up praises and acknowledge My throne, I will bring My authority into your situation. The dynamos of praise will unleash the discovery of My power. Don't allow anything to hinder your thanksgiving and offerings of praise to Me. Never wait until you feel better and more "secure." This is the day to erupt with praise and watch Me break in with breakthrough. There is no need I cannot supply, no problem I cannot solve, and no relationship I cannot heal-- when you praise Me. Let the ecstasy of praise bring you higher until you see more clearly. Doors will open up before you. Prayer and praise are My highest weapons and will win your every battle. The victory you need will begin the moment you praise Me. The shout at Jericho's walls was a shout of praise. My electrifying presence will rise up upon you when you shout at your wall with praise and victory. True faith will praise Me before your eyes see the triumph of your foes. Today, light the heavenly flame of praise within your soul and I will pour out My power for all to see!"

^Oh, come on.  How many millions of tragedies and illnesses would have been reversed if PRAISE and PRAYER actually worked.  I feel bad for the people that read that and believe it, then feel like their praise doesn't measure up when nothing changes.  Fucking nasty bullshit, Brian Simmons.  You should be ashamed.

Nice to see God has adopted the modern concept of using quotation marks to express the idea of something being so-called.

Nice to see people are still pretending that God speaks through them. "Thus saith The Lord..."

It reminds me of that quote:

"When one person suffers from a delusion, it is called insanity. When many people suffer from a delusion it is called Religion."

On my FB today. "She was Hannah Montana when Bush was president... Thanks Obama..."

Perhaps this right winger needs to check her birth certificate. I was thinking of replying "If things keep up we might get to see Hannah Montana's bush while Obama is still in office", but that would just make people angry. :-)

Amy Grant actually wrote a song that covers this.  It's titled "Ask Me".

http://www.lyricsfreak.com/a/amy+grant/ask+me_20007642.html

The song says that God is in the middle of rape.  "Mercy in the middle."

I use to be so deluded that I thought it was a good answer.

Question: <Fill in the blank>?

Answer: God.

That one's too easy!

Question: Why is there so much suffering in the world?

How do Mr. Simmons and your sister not see that these are the words of a narcissistic, abusive asshole?

How on earth could they check Miley Cyrus' birth cetificate? They can't seem to find Obama's.

They never blame Obama for his own failures (of which there are plenty). They always blame Obama for other people's failures (of which there are plenty).

(Not that Miley Cyrus is a failure. She's not my style, but this is purely a matter of taste, and she certainly has a market.)

I've seen that quite a few times. I think it's true for a lot of Christians. They've been taught to think that they're worthless, and they believe it.

Other Christians, of course, are self-righteous jerks.

I suppose that there may be some who are well adjusted, but the religion doesn't encourage that!

I would posit that this is why there are so many discussions of mental illness on this forum.

Vulnerable people go in to church, feel welcome and better for a while, then get significantly worse. Even mentally healthy people go in and get worse. It's all just one big mindfuck.

Really? Because it took me all of two seconds. I actually have this link bookmarked and give it to tea party idiots who go on about 'where's his birth certificate'?

http://lmgtfy.com/?q=obama%27s+birth+certificate

It's quite fun as it doesn't really deflate their ranting, but changes the subject to 'socialism' as if it's inherently bad because 'bad countries' were socialist, or some other imagined fault with no real reasoning behind it. He's got plenty of real ones, but the imaginary ones come up the most for some strange reason.

The hood wouldn't close on Sara's car. I searched the internet and had the problem fixed in less than 10 minutes. That car is 12 years old and still running. God is good.

Because cars that are 12 years old don't normally run? Because the internet? Why? What about this story reminds him that god is good?

I want to reply "Also, modern cars are good and Google is your friend."

It was probably just the Christian countdown timer in his head went off and so he was compelled to say "God" or "Jesus" for no apparent reason. The timer is usually set for about 2 hours, I think.

Amazingly enough, not a single reply had anything to do with god! It was all about how good cars are these days, and how helpful YouTube can be at times.

There's hope for the world!

Isn't it amazing how a God powerful enough to part the Red Sea in the past has been reduced to using the Internet as a crutch? Is He that damn lazy in his old age? ;)

Out of the blue, someone just posted an article, “19-year-old charged with woman’s murder.” Her only comment was “God is good.” No explanation as to what her point is. She doesn’t even live in Jacksonville.

Is it a code with some meaning that I never learned about, because I was in a different denomination? (I was Catholic, and she is Protestant, although I once had to explain to her what a “Protestant” is.)

[edit]Come to think of it, I might get it. Once, the Sunday after our Shrine to Our Mommy Who Never Did “It” Even Once failed to protect us from a hurricane (again), the first words out of the priest’s mouth was “God is good, right?” Everybody (including me) nodded in agreement. It may be a defense against cognitive dissonance, or a manifestation of the Stockholm syndrome.[/edit]
