Goodbye Jesus

Things Fundies Say On Facebook

Brother Jeff

Recommended Posts

This is from a certain "Brian Simmons":

"It is time to take prayer to the breakthrough level… the place of Divine response. We must not be content to leave our prayer life on the religious level of merely something that we must do to be spiritual. David prayed and the heavens shook and the voice of God was clearly heard. This is the breakthrough factor that must be reached in our day." It goes on with quotation from what looks like an entire Psalm.

Aargh. This stuff is so painful.

for decades fundies have been talking about reaching the "breakthrough level..."

Here's today's latest from Brother Brian:

"2014 will be the year of the RESTORATION! What has been lost by neglect, or unfortunate reversals will be redeemed this year and restored to those in love with the Heavenly Boaz. The duty of the Kinsman-Redeemer was to deliver from poverty, restore land to its original owner, and secure justice for the oppressed. A new movement will begin, called, "Occupy Throne Room!" We will find Him there ready to restore us, revive us, restore what was taken from us. No loss for the believer is permanent, not when Jesus takes up your cause!"

--- Dr. Brian Simmons

Brian keeps posting about the great victories that are won in Christ, and also about the reversals and losses that believers suffer. So when do the great victories actually kick in - why are there still losses, why is stuff "taken from us"?

Does Brian make money off of this?

I don't have the answers to your questions but whenever I occupy my throne room and "pray" hard enough, something new manifests itself. It's sort of a new birth. :-)

They say that's what Luther's "tower experience" was

No Christians so far. Most of them are from my college days, so I left my college information off of my profile. I don't know how you guys can stand it.

I've purged most of mine by now.

I only have a couple relatives left on FB, and every so often, Cousin will post something (like the bible and gun "needed in schools" pic) and, at first, in with all of the other (very different) stuff posted by my friends and co-workers, it takes me a second look to realize that it's not a joke. Like this:

7 Keys to Life

1. Put God first
2. Love one another
3. Never hate
4. Give generously
5. Live simply
6. Forgive quickly
7. Be kind always

And I wonder how that reconciles with her posts about anti-imigration or bitching about co-workers.

To be fair, apart from point 1 that's a good general guide to life.

Granted there are necessary exceptions to these generalisations.

Someone from my former Church days who is a theology professor and producing a short podcast about bible stuff posted an article that also includes a map about the prosecution of christians in the world and stated that there was great potential for his podcast in a lot of countries.

I posted an article I just found that day about the myth of prosecution of christians and posted it to it...yeah sometime I do stuff like this...just because I like to provoke. The article mainly covered prosecution of people in the islamic part of the world.

So he was like: Interesting article, might have some truth to it but I do miss objectivity in it...for example it does not say anything about christian prosecution in China and North Korea or the Maledives.

I replied that China and North Korea where communist dictatorships and I had not too much knowledge about China but I knew that in North Korea like in Russia in the Stalin area people where put in working camps for having a different mindset then the government is allowing them to and had expressed it in some way. It would be only in the nature of the case that christians fall into that category.

His reply: I guess we are going in circles here. Lets agree that all godless dictatorships some time in their time will go after the godly people? Otherwise the romans would probably never have crucified Jesus and the christians at that time would not have been executed in public. The prosecution of Christians stays the mother of all prosecutions.

All I thought was: WOW.

And I replied: Always when it is about controlling people, there will be those who prosecute those who try to get out of that controlling system if they where christians or not. The romans had crucified other people too and killed many. Also in the middle ages the church prosecuted those who did not believe. But take it easy. For now all I agree is, that we might not agree.

I did not get an answer to that. And I know I could have not written it because it will not sink in. But maybe it makes some people who follow his profile curious.

Its crazy to think that I was believing this stuff too. You can bring on all logic and reasoning, it won't even compute. And this guy was one of the more open minded...he got kicked out of the church I attended because of it.

That is true. After all, you can't measure power that does not exist.

Recently I got hit with a group email from a friend that was the Ben Stein diatribe about how:

1. America is going down the toilet.

2. Because we are ignoring God.

I sent back my reply that Ben Stein's article was merely opinion without any supporting facts. I'm waiting to be called a grump.

I thought it was going down the toilet because the Antichrist President Obama wants poor sick people to get better, when they should know their place and suffer and die like Jesus intends, the scrounging bastards.

Subject:
Comments from Ben Stein

Apparently the White House referred to Christmas Trees as Holiday Trees for the first time this year which prompted CBS presenter, Ben Stein, to offer this piece.  It applies just as much to many countries as it does to the U.S.A.

A little sanity please...

Only  hope we find GOD again before it is too late ! !

The  following was written by Ben Stein and recited by him on CBS  Sunday  Morning  Commentary. My confession:   I don't like getting pushed around for being a  Jew, and I don't think Christians like getting pushed around for  being Christians.  I think people who believe in God are  sick and tired of getting pushed around, period.  I have no  idea where the concept came from, that America is an explicitly  atheist country.  I can't find it in the Constitution and I  don't like it being shoved down my throat...  Or maybe I  can put it another way: where did the idea come from that we  should worship celebrities and we aren't allowed to worship God  as we understand Him?  I guess that's a sign that I'm  getting old, too.  But there are a lot of us who are  wondering where these celebrities came from and where the  America we knew went to.  In light of the many jokes we  send to one another for a laugh, this is a little  different:  This is not intended to be a joke; it's not  funny, it's intended to get you thinking.

In  light of recent events... terrorists attack, school shootings,  etc..  I think it started when Madeleine Murray O'Hare (she  was murdered, her body found a few years ago) complained she  didn't want prayer in our schools, and we said OK.  Then  someone said you better not read the Bible in school...   The Bible says thou shalt not kill; thou shalt not steal, and  love your neighbor as yourself.  And we said  OK. Then Dr. Benjamin Spock said we shouldn't spank our  children when they misbehave, because their little personalities  would be warped and we might damage their self-esteem (Dr.  Spock's son committed suicide).  We said an expert should  know what he's talking about..  And we said  okay.. Now we're asking ourselves why our children have  no conscience, why they don't know right from wrong, and why it  doesn't bother them to kill strangers, their classmates, and  themselves. Probably, if we think about it long and hard  enough, we can figure it out.  I think it has a great deal  to do with 'WE REAP WHAT WE SOW.'  Funny how simple it is  for people to trash God and then wonder why the world's going to  hell.

Funny how we believe what the newspapers say, but  question what the Bible says.
Funny how you can send  'jokes ‘through e-mail and they spread like wildfire, but when  you start sending messages regarding the Lord, people think  twice about sharing.
Funny how lewd, crude, vulgar and  obscene articles pass freely through cyberspace, but public  discussion of God is suppressed in the school and workplace.   Are you laughing yet?
Funny how when you forward  this message, you will not send it to many on your address list  because you're not sure what they believe, or what they will  think of you for sending it.  Funny how we can be more  worried about what other people think of us than what God thinks  of us.  Pass it on if you think it has merit.

If not, then just discard it... no one will know you  did.  But, if you discard this thought process, don't sit  back and complain about what bad shape the world is in.

My Best Regards,  Honestly and  respectfully,
 Ben  Stein

Every time some idiot christian posts their religious diatribe trash on facebook, I simply post a "Why Do People Laugh at Creationists" video and laugh. It's about the only way to deal with these simpletons. :)

My roommate had this up on her Facebook today and I caught a glimpse of it before going off to look it up on my own. It's stupid. It's just Christians making themselves feel better than all those degenerate selfish sinners.

"Because of sin I am deserving of hell"...I am born full of sin, deserving of hell - what an awful concept and what a cruel god.

"The more you have, the happier you'll be"? Why does it surprise me when Xians think atheists are selfish materialists and hedonists?

They need to spray the grass with a nice heavy dose of Round-Up and make the preacher eat it til he croaks.  (Maybe Pat Robertson, Ken Ham, and all the rest of the idiot cronies could join them!)
