That's basically a "walk the walk, don't just talk the talk" sort of thing. It's saying to not just get excited at church, but to live a solid Christian life. That quote would've been right up my alley when I was a believer. I still think it's important to live a good life, but of course without the religious bs now.

To me that quote is an example of the judgmental attitude so many xians have.  They see their job as being to tell other xians they're not doing it right.  Xianity gives people a licence to judge and bully others.

The facepalm moments came when I read the comments below this innocuous quote:

10344186_10152157991593525_7568168310593

Fundie #1: That's debatable. There is so much literature out there that is harmful, even for adult minds.

Fundie #2: Not every book is good for you.

I think books scare them. Newsflash: books cannot hurt you, fundies!

God forbid you should read something other than the bible and books by Christian authors! You know, god made our minds so fragile that if we read something against god's will in the slightest, we could get sucked into the bottomless void of the devil's trap and commit terrible sins such as thinking the wrong things! Even worse, we could become atheists!!

Funny... Reading the bible made me an atheist.

Remember Hypatia...

Is this to convince yourself of God or of true love?

So I posted this on my FB Status:

“Reasoning opens the door for deception and brings much confusion. I once asked the Lord why so many people are confused and He said to me, “Tell them to stop trying to figure everything out, and they will stop being confused.” I have found it to be absolutely true. Reasoning and confusion go together.” -Joyce Meyer

So there you go.. Just quit asking questions and/or trying to use logic/reason, and you wouldn't have any more confusion!! If only someone had told me this sooner!

And someone said:

She's talking about spiritual matters more than anything. You can't really apply logic to faith in an unseen deity. With faith you believe and then see evidence. With logic you see then you believe.

Uh...... you just basically proved my point.....? not even sure how to respond.

One of my FB friends is a Pastor's wife so I get Pastor-y things from time to time.

This has so much christianese in it.

3 Signs That God is Moving in Your Church

There’s no way to manufacture a move of God. Yes, we follow God’s heart and the Spirit’s leading to plan, pray and prepare in faith that God will move though all we do, but only He can make the move.

At times, we may be tempted to “hype” things up to give the appearance that God is moving, (nothing wrong with passion and excitement) but how do we know it’s God? We see these 3 things:

Ummm... Yeah... Hmm... They can keep that faith stuff. I'm good.

I think this is the fundamental difference, the differing views on faith. Faith is, of course, illogical. But Christians see that as a good and virtuous thing. I do not.

Exactly.. but when you get down to it.. WHY do people believe that faith is a virtue? Because Christianity TOLD THEM IT WAS. Especially in the case of people who were raised in the church, it's been drilled into your head from the time you were little that faith is a good thing. you're taught to ignore logic and reasoning and simply believe it, even if it doesnt make sense.

You're absolutely right! I remember hearing faith taught in almost those exact same words! I heard things like "just have faith." "It doesn't make any sense, but god is in control. Just trust him." Things like that.

Faith is not illogical in a emotional sense of the word which is mostly the only way the religious use it. Faith does not rely on logic nor does it need to. Neither does logic need faith at all to exist.

Logic is a process faith could be called a belief system. They are apples and oranges in reality.

One can try and use logic to define their faith I guess. I would like to see that rhetorical argument and then pick it apart with a fine tooth comb.

of course my response may be totally illogical or you might have the faith to accept that my logic is a sound process for my definition of faith???!?????

I agree that Christians are talking about something emotionally experiential when they talk about faith. I get that. For me, the fundamental question is not about how well a belief system emotionally works for me, it's about whether the dogma and doctrines of the belief system are actually true. For most Christians, this isn't even a concern because they presuppose their belief system is true; they've never seen any reason to think about it critically. When they hear someone talk about it critically, they are offended because that type of talk shakes the source of their emotional security. For me, emotional pleading is not enough. It does not speak to the truth of the matter.

Yeah, because Jesus delayed his return for a couple millennia because he needed to wait for a bunch of Facebook likes!
