I doubt anyone is taking him seriously anymore than when we play the god game just to unravel the poor logic. I.e., just because we pretend there is a god for a moment to point out that he is evil does not actually mean we believe in an evil god. It's just an intellectual exercise, as is this. I'll play devil's advocate, then. I think there are some pretty good guidelines out there for starting a religion- but it'll be all for naught if you lack the charisma to pull it off. And it's no good as a get-rich-QUICK scheme. You're gonna have to do just like Jesus and prey on the poor and broken at first so that you can build up a base. From THERE maybe you can sell it to the wealthy and powerful (like Romans in the case of christianity, or celebrities in the case of Scientology). So what you're saying is because you don't know what it is yourself, you will create a fraud for others as some sort of an attack on the genuine article out of your own personal frustration and resentments for feeling cheated youself? If you had something to offer that was genuine, you wouldn't need to fake it. i'd want to have stories and adventures in it. I think it would be fun, and believing in yourself is always a good thing. Then why not teach sincerely? Why create any fiction? I can see how people see it as lies, sometimes I look at it that way. But sometimes I also look at it as imagination. If I create something then it exists on some level, even if it's in the mind. I'm creator of worlds and ideas. I can create gods or destroy them, so can anyone else. Using various religious symbols can be useful in religious expression and experience, but if they are understood non-literally, then the question of them being a lie is an entirely moot point. If you mean you want to find meaningful symbols, that is something different than just create a bill of goods to sell people. The former is legitimate, the latter is pathetic. To me religion isn't bad, it's about having faith and emotion, regardless if it's true or not. Religion is about faith, not facts. Faith is not a lie. If you try to say religion is facts then that's a lie. Fundamentalism is all about religion being facts, not good. Religion is more than just about faith and emotions, and if it is experienced legitimately, and authentically, then it is in fact, true. The experience reveals truth. That the symbols are not scientific facts is irrelevant. Again though, if you are wanting to offer something valid and genuine to people for their benefit, then why such an underlying tone of cynicism? Also I would make money off of Christians if I could, I don't have a problem creating religious paraphernalia for profit. This smacks of what I said in my first reply above in the post. It sounds like you want to hurt others because of some internal frustration. Forgive me, but it sounds like you want to strike at God, so to speak. This is about some form of twisted self-empowerment by exploiting and hurting those who 'are stupid enough to believe this shit', like you were. Even though I don't like the bad part of cults, I like the idea of cults in general. It's so underground, kinda cool. I'm a big fan of Lovecraft and his Cthulhu cult stories. Having an evil underground cult sounds fun too, as long as no one gets hurt or does anything illegal. Satanists are all about believing in yourself, but Satan is too 80's for me. If you're just talking about creating a fictional fantasy religious for kick, like some sci-fi reality where people wear silly costumes and all, go for it! That is not one bit like what you're suggesting, preying on people's desires, as silly as how they try to find that may go some times through their ignorance. Educate others, help them, don't fleece them in some sort of twisted self-empowerment. Start a real religion, if you have something real to offer. Otherwise, find some other way to do good.
