Well if your husband had been out of the picture, I would have readily agreed to your terms.

C'est la vie

My thanks to all of you who are posting in here. Interesting crowd, without a doubt.

Religion: raised in the Church of Christ/atheist since 2008

Income: I do credit analysis for small businesses applying for SBA 504 loans.

Education: MBA

Political leanings: Ugh. I hate politics. As a churchgoer, I was influenced by all of the fundy bullshit. Now, I just try to avoid thinking about it.

Neither of my parents finished high school but my Dad got his GED in the Army and my Mom got her GED after she was married and had three children.

OK.

Australian female aged 55. Raised in Christian family (severe restrictions such as not being able to wear salcks as a child)- gave it away in 1981 at the age of 25.

Brought up in Sydney, moved to Canberra (the national capital) in 1981.

Work for the government in social research related to homelessness. I have a BA in psychology, a Grad Dip in Nutrition and a quarter of a Masters degree in Social Research.

Still married. Two children who are young adults.

Left / green leaning politically but with a belief that the government budget has to be balanced over the medium term.

Canadian female, Caucasian, age 54. Ancestry is Norwegian (although I feel a closer tie to Iceland), Scottish and Scots Irish. Born in Montreal and educated mainly in the Quebec English-language Protestant school system (as opposed to the English Catholic or French Catholic school system). Have been living in Winnipeg for more than half My life.

Philosophy: Humanist; agnostic atheist (extremely strong agnosticism, weak atheist); cultural heiðinn (I celebrate solstices, equinoxes and other pagan/neopagan festivals); pragmatist; and a touch of stoicism and mindfulness meditation. This can be summed up as:

  1. Life is in progress. Pay attention, darnit!
  2. Try not to hurt anything, do the honourable thing, and generally strive to be a net asset to whatever community you live in.
  3. If gods or magic actually do exist, the scientific method is the best way to find them.

Income: I work in medical transcription at a large hospital (5 years in the field so far). Before that, I worked as a computer technician/network administrator, and before that I worked in clerical positions such as receptionist, typist, executive secretary.

(Oh, and I'm also a goddess... But there's no money in it, so it doesn't count as an income stream.) GONZ9729CustomImage1539775.gif

Educational level: Quebec CEGEP diploma in arts (roughly equivalent to a 2-year college degree); several IT certifications (Microsoft, Novell and CompTIA); certificate in business administration; currently studying classical clarinet with the goal of attaining the ARCT (Associate) level of the Royal Conservatory of Music.

Political leanings: Left-ish but not hardcore socialist. I like to see a strong support network for the general population and a balanced budget and a proactive, non-vindictive approach to dealing with social problems.

I am 25 years old although I've frequently been told I'm an "old soul" (ironically enough, it's mostly been Christians who have told me that, and it appears to me to be a term referring to reincarnation. Wonder if they know that?). I am a female Heinz 57, though I seem to take after the Scottish side of my family most, what with the red hair, freckles, and fair skin. I currently reside in British Columbia, on the west coast of Canada. Pretty much grew up here. Religion would be non-existant now...I haven't settled on anything. Probably some kind of theist for the most part right now. I work as a barista in a local coffee shop and am trying to decide if I'm saving up to continue with university or if I'm going to skip that for now and teach ESL in South America. As for politics...I don't really understand it. But as there is a "green party" I can vote for here in Canada, I lean towards that.

Age: 30 years old

Location: Budapest (NOT Bucharest!)

Ethnicity: not much of an issue... balding, white skin with blue eyes, so I guess I must be an aryan skinhead

Education: BSc in security engineering,Bsc. in civil engineering in progress

Religion: ex-pentecostal, church-free since 2005, faith-free in 2011

Politics is a synonym for corruption. I wish I could be so unscrupulous to take part in it...

I am a self-taught musician who speaks fluent English and very poor Swedish; Jag pratar väldigt lite svenska. At the age of 13 I became a born-again Christan and later de-converted after nearly a decade, in 2005.

Hell, I know this thread is old, but I might as well post.

I'm a 36 year old immigrant from Texas living in Florida. I was raised in the Church of Christ. A was baptized at 11, but said the sinner's prayer just before then just in case that would work (CoC says you've gotta be baptized for salvation). I took religion way to seriously, and missed out on a lot of fun because of it. Today, I'm an atheist. While there's obviously no way to prove it, I believe there are no gods, at least not in the conventional sense. Recently, I've pondered how in a way, humanity may be an emergent god in some sense. As a christian, I was a big time conservative republican. After loosing my faith, I started slowly drifting left. I still loosely call myself a libertarian, but politically, I'm still in flux. Probably always will be.

I'm a white dude, with a dash of Cherokee and maybe something else. I've seen an old photo of a great great grandmother who didn't look white, but I'm not sure what her ethnicity might be. I've been asked if I am part Italian, and even asked by a Lebanese woman if I had Lebanese ancestry. To my knowledge, I have neither. In short, like pretty much everyone else on this planet, I'm a mutt. That's ok. Mutt's make the best dogs!

At the moment, I'm a self-educated computer programmer who has been writing code for a living since '98. I'm not too far from finishing an AA in Pre-Engineering. Got A's in the Calculus I thru III as well as Differential Equations, so I think I'll be able to handle any of the other classes. But then again, when I start going to FSU for my BS in Electrical Engineering, I may find out otherwise.

My Dad was an Architect and was one of the most intelligent people I've personally known, despite being a christian 'till the day he died. My mother, on the other hand, didn't deserve her high school diploma, is essentially illiterate, and is one of the least intelligent people I've ever known.
