Evolution Or Creationism? Find Out Where Protestant Pastors Stand

American pastors overwhelmingly believe that Adam and Eve were very literal people and that evolution was not the tool that God used to create mankind. This notion — that Protestant leaders take the bible’s creation story literally — was reinforced in a recent study by LifeWay Research.

When asked to agree or disagree with the statement, “I believe Adam and Eve were literal people,” the results were strong to say the least. The vast majority — 74 percent — strongly agreed that Adam and Eve existed, with an additional 8 percent selecting that they “somewhat agree” with the statement. Overall, only 17 percent disagreed; one percent was unsure.

On the evolution indicator, which explored whether God used evolution to create humans, 73 percent of the Christian leaders polled indicated that they do not believe he did, with only 12 percent agreeing that it was God’s chosen creation method. Four percent of respondents indicated that they aren’t sure where they stand on the matter.

I posted this response to my Facebook wall:

Adherence to literal belief in this absurd ancient mythology is a large part of what is wrong with this country. I am 100% POSITIVE that Adam and Eve did not exist, and so is anyone else with more than one brain cell functioning.

There isn't any "controversy" over whether evolution is fact or not. It is, and the evidence in favor of it is simply overwhelming.

The earth is not 6000 years old. It is 4.55 BILLION years old and that's not something we think, it is what we *know* to be the case based on multiple lines of evidence.

Noah's Ark? Also an obvious myth, and one that we know was derived from earlier mythology. Time and money spent looking for the nonexistent Ark is time and money wasted that could have been put to a LOT better use. The same goes for time and money spent looking for nonexistent places such as the Garden of Eden.

It seems to be part of the human condition that really smart people are capable of holding some really stupid and irrational beliefs.

There is not an Invisible Man living in the sky. Jesus, if he ever lived (which is debatable), is DEAD. The Bible is ancient myth and almost entirely FICTION. Those are the unvarnished facts of the matter, whether you like them or not.

I'm pretty much getting to the point of having ZERO tolerance for Christian bullshit on Facebook. If they post it, I'm likely to respond to it and not be nice about it. I'm sick of walking on eggshells around my Christian friends for fear of offending them. A lot of them I like and respect aside from their beliefs and would hate to lose them over religion, but I'm done with their beliefs and opinions being the only ones acceptable on Facebook. If they don't like hearing the truth about their beliefs, they shouldn't put them out there to be criticized. Can I get an "AMEN"?

eventualy the idea of creationism will die out in religion just as the idea of a flat earth or spontanious generation did, it'll simply take time. i mean even large parts of the chatholic church have let go of the idea of a 6000 year old earth.
