I still love the hymns too, Zaphod. We always have a gay Christmas carol sing on Christmas. Best of everything with college.

I snapped almost two years ago (not about religion) and decided to go back to college at the age of 35 after having flunked out in my 20's. I moved in with my parents, and it is going far better than it should considering they know I'm a gay liberal and my dad's an elder at a local Church of Christ. Last time we discussed my beliefs I told them I was a deist, which was basically true at the time. So as far as they know, I'm not an atheist, which is where I'm going to leave it until I move out. I stopped going to church with them in September, after the preacher pissed me off for the last time with a sermon that could have been written by one of those assholes from "Fox and Friends." The parents don't ask about my lack of attendance, since I'd been going less and less frequently leading up to that final sermon. It used to be that I would work lots of Sunday mornings or late Saturday nights (I'm in retail), which gave me a reason to skip a lot of Sunday morning services. After that fateful sermon, though, I decided I wasn't going back. Didn't discuss it with them. Just quit going altogether. Mom will occasionally invite me to their social functions, and once in January I did go with a group of them to sing hymns at a nursing home. I like doing something nice for the old folks, and for whatever reason I still love the hymns I grew up with.

Glad that you are able to not attend church. Church attendance is mandatory for me since I live with them which is why I'm working so hard to move out. I love my parents just not their religion.
