Has Anyone Ever Practiced Sikhism?

Has anyone here ever practiced or looked into Sikhism? From what I've read about it, it seems pretty interesting, but I would like to know what other people's expereiences have been with it.

I haven't practiced Sikhism, but I have been influenced by the Sikh pathway. There is a well known world music band called 'Dya Singh' that is based in Adelaide, South Australia.

The philosophy seems quite similar to Hinuism to me, but any Sikh would be vehement about the fact that Sikhism is not the same as Hinduism.

They always seem to be polite, humble and conscientious, but able to laugh at themselves at the same time.

I worked for a family of Sikhs for about a year back in 2006 when I was an undergrad. They were ok for the most part although they were a bit on the frugal side (they didn't want to pay for heat or air conditioning in their business so I froze all winter and burned all summer) However I noticed that they didn't seem to mind mistreating one of their own; there was a Sikh woman there from India on a work visa and they had her scrubbing the floor on her hands and knees instead of just giving her a decent mop. That one acted like she was interested in me towards the end of my time there but I didn't fall for the ruse... I knew she was there on a work visa and probably just wanted a ticket out of that place.

They all wore those bracelets but they didn't have the sword or turban (probably due to being Americanized somewhat... the owner's wife and son were definitely American-origin) They kept their religion to themselves... I guess Sikhism is something that you're born into (like Hinduism) rather than being converted to.

When I looked into it more, I realized thier texts were the same old stuff that all religions have: praise God over and over and OVER non-stop. I don't believe in God anymore, so Sikhism isn't for me. I'm looking for something spiritual, not endless "think of the Lord 24/7" shit.rolleyes.gif

It's all about how you view "God". To the sikh's God is the universe, and their 24/7 praise is very similar to mantra based meditation.

Whether it's "god" or the universe, I'm not in the mood to praise either because I don't believe praising either will make a difference either way. And I'm not into the new age meditation/watch your breath/watch your thoughts stuff.
